I would imagine the live letter coming up this month will probably talk about it.

Nothing official yet that I know of. They might announce something in the live letter next week though.

live letter is the 24th i would think 2.28 would be out before that since the letter will be talking about 2.3 which is supposed to come out less than 5 weeks after that letter

End of May. Yoshi deals in extremes when it comes to this. Normally Live Letter is supposed to cover the next major patch, which in the latest interviews says "after E3" which could be after the last day or 7 months after (remember his last "soon after E3 that ended up as nearly months after?)

Nah, they've announced they'll be talking about the "upcoming Novus weapon quest" in the Live Letter on the 24th. Which means that 2.28 will be after the Live Letter. It's late, for sure, but we knew that already.

Here's the thread:

Yeah, the Live Letter is the 24, so far every major patch will be schedule the week after the live letter. Since the patch number is 2.28, don't you think that the may actually do the patch the 28 of May? With the previous history of patches, it will be sometime these months after the Live Letter for sure.

If patch 2.28 comes out on the 28th, I would consider that to be coincidental. Patch numbers should always be increasing. If they did the minor number based on the day of the month, 2.27 could come out next month, after 2.28. And that wouldn't make sense.

I was actually wondering why they're jumping from 2.25 to 2.28 - I'm guessing that 2.26 and 2.27 were server side patches that fixed minor bugs or improved performance, and did not need announcements to the public to go with them.

They also skipped 2.24, didn't they?

They've skipped a bunch of numbers. You're probably correct in that they only release the patch number when it's a client side update. There's also every chance that server and client side code bases are just about totally separate, and have individual versioning.

As en example at work we certainly don't update all of our clients to the latest build all at the same time, they get a new build when it offers the particular fix or feature that they need. Same thing probably happens with content patches, there's probably a bunch of "under the hood" changes which for all intents and purposes, we don't really need to know about, nor do we need them delivered ASAP. They can wait until the next scheduled update and be bundled in with the content.

Then again they might do something like have gaps in the versions so they have room to slip in another patch between say 2.25 and 2.28 and not have to number it something like 2.25.12345 (but we do see the minor revision numbers on the title screen). With the current setup they have room for 9 minor patches between the regular updates (i.e. 2.2 -> 2.3), and that might be the only reason they've got it set up that way.

Truth is we don't really know unless SE tells us how their versioning methodology works.

2.26
-An issue wherein character data would not refresh on Lodestone and the iOS/Android app “Libra Eorzea.”

2.27
-An issue wherein the keyboard stops responding while typing. (PlayStation®4 version only)

They aren't officially labeled 2.26 and 2.27, but they were done on different dates and they're the only listed changes made since 2.25 came out.

in that case when the say "relic update coming in 2.28" how do they KNOW things are gonn ahappen in between 2.2 and 2.28 that theyre gonna need exactly 7 patches to get to 2.28 if theyre not skipping numbers?

I agree. The live letter is for 2.3. We'll probably get 2.28 before then.

Considering it also covers novus, chances are it'll be after since it would be weird to talk about Novus after people are already acquiring it.

Or we actually don't get patch 2.28 and get surprise by receiving patch 2.3 next week. In all, the it will get here when it gets here.

I'm not even sure what you're asking. What I'm saying is they basically space out the patch numbers they release to us so they have room in between to add another patch, if it's necessary.

The numbers that they choose are more or less arbitrary, and not a huge deal of significance should be placed on them.

It's been mentioned a few times but they're talking about the next installment for Animus in the Live letter, so we won't have the 2.28 content before then.
