Information stating that dagger and gun classes will be available sooner than we may think. Since THF and RDM are the classes I've wanted to main in this game since the beginning, I've decided to make a list of things I'll need to power through and get a nice head start. Seems THF will be out first, so I'll be preparing for that.
Have all medium armor sets ready to go
Stock up on dex materias
Rest xp set at max
100 leve allowances
All dungeons unlocked for dungeon lottery queues
Have a class (my monk) at 50 for bonus xp
I'm thinking PUG will be the subclass requirement for THF, so I think I'm already good in that area..
What things will you guys be doing to get ready when the time comes near?

w/e gets the gun weapon is the next job for me^^
I've already got Archer/Bard to 50, so I really just have to wait and see what the subclass will be.
I will spam the official forums with a request to add Squall's hair to the hairstyles available. Change it, and act emo so I can use the new gunblade class!

The gun class "won't be what you think" so I'm guessing it's a new crafter class, using a hot glue gun. The hobbyist will use glue guns and scissors to make ugly gear with rhinestones and other crappy costume jewelry on it.

And they will call the job "Bedazzler"
I'm assuming that Thief and Ninja (which is what I assume is coming judging from the storyline where Thancred changes from Thf to an UNKNOWN Dual Wielding dagger class) will share monk gear, given that the drops in CT are "Fuma" set and look like a ninja.
So I'm going to gather the entire Fuma set from CT, and start working, slowly, on making HQ daggers as BSM with some Dex materia inside.
I am assuming many more dagger and katana recipes are coming so I'm just gonna casually make low level daggers (>30) for now.

I think we'll get a new base dagger class, with THF and NIN being the two branching jobs that flow out of it. The base class and NIN will be tanks, and THF will fall under more of a DPS role.
Then the gunner class is Musketer > RNG and/or Gun Mage, with the latter actually falling as the tank job, and ranger providing a surprise healing role (COR style from XI)
This does a couple of things: Matches what lore we've been given (pretty damn clear that Yugiri is a NIN or dancer type and Thancred is a THF now, and Merlwyb is a gunner of some sort) and solves the tank shortage problem temporarily.

Have my retainers dig up and stockpile ore so I can flood the Market Board with weapons at crazy prices.
Greed a full set of allangen gear for all classes just in case they can share those.

Has there been any mention of timing for the Patch?

I know they've said patch 2.28 is coming in early May. But these classes would probably be part of 2.3 at the earliest, and even that is unlikely. 2.3 probably wouldn't be out any earlier than June.
