I got PC version back at ARR release, I quit because I got stuck at a story dungeon and was unable to progress. Questions below.

1. What server is best for US East/Central

2. What server is best to help new players or is there a server specific for english new players?

3. Should I go with White mage so it's easy to get into dungeons or is there a better dungeon matching now?

4. I like playing with a controller, Do I need to get used to KB+M ?

Any suggestions and help is welcome and I thank you in advance, I will be reloading this page often for the next couple of days =)

1) There isn't really a better or best server. Lamia is a great server with a good level headed population. I mostly run on Hyperion. Everyone I've met has been great. Ultros I've run into some serious ********. Don't know why.

2) This rolls into question 1. No specific server or datacenter.

3) Matching is a lot better now than it use to be. A LOT better. DPS still takes a while, though. I'd go WHM before all else, and this comes from a career PLD.

4) I play exclusively with a controller. For some reason I always prefer K/M, EXCEPT in this game, and I can't pin down why I hate K/M so much in ARR. Then again now I play full-time on a PS4, so it's a non-issue.

As far as advice, have fun with it! Despite the nay-sayers there's a ton to do, especially for new players. For vets there's a lot to do to prepare for 2.3... I'm loving the content progression. It makes sense and it is very well done. Atmas suck, but that's a non issue for you at this point, and won't be for a while.

If you do join up on Hyperion, talk to me. Dare Knight -- I'll get you in our FC. Moogle Apocalypse is #1 in the universe ;)

Server wise, I would just choose whatever has the best ping for you. It says in the upper right corner how the connection is. Most servers will specify EU, NA, JP, etc, after that it's just a matter of choosing a legacy server, newer server, or server created around release of ARR. Legacy servers tend to have the highest population, so some of them are character locked. Someone else might be able to chime in with better advice on this topic, I was on Balmung and haven't budged. I sure every NA server has a helpful FC on it, just a matter finding which.

White Mage is always needed for just about any fight in the game, and Duty Roulette makes it so that just about any dungeon is able to be completed within a reasonable time frame. That being said, some of the story dungeons still require a 30-45 min wait time for a full party. The beauty of white mage (in my opinion, this will vary), is it really makes you understand the full mechanics of a fight, which in turn makes it (again in my opinion) the hardest job to do. Tank needs to understand most mechanics, but not all. DPS just needs to do a decent rotation to be effective.

As for KB vs Controller, you'll get lots of varied responses here. I use controller, love it and cannot get used to keyboard to save my life. People who have been using Keyboards since the days of EQ, WoW will probably say controller is horrible and too limited in terms of function. Honestly, use whatever feels easier to you, both are highly effective in the end. On pc, you can still set macros with a controller, so things work out in the end.

My experience has been the exact opposite. IMO White Mage is the second easiest job in the game (Bard is first.) As a healer you don't need to know all the mechanics. In fact, you get to ignore many of them completely. It's not always so simple obviously, but in general I find healing to be easy mode. I go DPS when I can pay attention. I go healer when I want to zone out.

1. What server is best for US East/Central? Ultros is also a great server and it has a lot of ZAM players on it.

2. What server is best to help new players or is there a server specific for english new players? The people that I have run into on Ultros tend to be extreamly helpful, expecially if they are members of the ZAM boards and they recognize you based off your name.

3. Should I go with White mage so it's easy to get into dungeons or is there a better dungeon matching now? The matching is much better but tanks and healers still get in loads faster, think 1 to 3 min as compaired to 15 to 20.

4. I like playing with a controller, Do I need to get used to KB+M ? When I play on pc I only use the KB and mouse to a very limited capacity. The controller is just what works best for me, use what works best for you.

Answers are in the quote above in bold and underlined.

You won't have to worry about differences in servers at this point. Any player who is a Legacy Player could have moved their character to any server they wanted beginning about a month or so ago.

Home prices degrade down to a bottom cap, and on my server (Balmung, legacy Server) Nearly all the housing spaces this round have already been bought. My free company is saving up gil to upgrade to a larger house when they release more, but it it's not a concern for most, as personal housing is just around the corner.

All the other questions have already been answered, and I really shouldn't be awake at this hour.

Welcome back and have fun!

It really depends on the content. In most dungeons a healer can just plunk down in a spot and spam Cure, but in others the healer has to do just as much running around and wiggling as the DPS jobs to avoid getting smacked around. I did Copperbell HM for the first time last night and there was no boss where I was standing still (my party had me take care of feeding crystals to the worm and everything at the last boss.)

A good healer absolutely is aware of the mechanics and knows when to dodge with the best of them.
