Well in all actuality a lot of people were expecting some kind of Gunner from the FF series, so something you won't expect is probably something not seen in FF before which can be horrendously terribad or something interesting. With this battle system, it's pretty up in the air but maybe 2.3 will bring some changes to make it seem more "open" rather than in the corner the system designed itself into.

I think they're trying to warn people that it won't be Corsair from FFXI. Considering the strong pirate links/theme it could work.

It really could, especially with this limited GCD battle system, Phantom Roll (1 overall ability), Quick Draw (1 overall ability), Random Deal (as we see Blood Letter can auto reset itself on a specific crit hit chance) and Wild Card...it'd fit in quite easily.

At this point Gun Mage and Magic Bullet is the only way I could see Blue Mage working even somewhat traditional to the FF series.

They said it's not what we think? So do they think we think it's Musketeer? Do they think it's a Gunblade job? What? That's just a meaningless thing to say. Everyone thinks something else. He should have said it's not the most obvious choice, or flatout "It's not Musketeer". For all he knows we're thinking of something exotic, and he knows that and mentions that it's not what we think and that it's actually Musketeer (which no one now expects anymore).

Maybe we're all thinking about one of those Garlean jobs?

You guys mentioned tank, you have that guy with Gunshields Rhitahtyn Sas Arvina.

I know there's a Gunspear from 1.0's Nael van Darnus (and maybe a little Monster Hunter)

Gunhammer from Nero Tol Scaeva?

Didnt we say we wanted Samurai? Gunkatana like the Garlean Commander Gaius van Baelsar has.

Gunbaghnakhs from Livia?

So many options, so much psychological questions over such a vague comment.

No, you described any MMORPG playerbase ever since the turn of the Graphical MUD days.

Hm... Nah, just any pre-WoW MMORPG playerbase. What a coincidence that the game became so popular too... probably not because the devs finally understood that players prefer the game to require skill over gil. Thanks for correcting me though. FFXI playerbase is always the obvious choice, I have to broaden my views to include other EQ clones too.

I'm curious, did you actually ever play XI? I only ask because, if you honestly think the game required no skill, you are pretty clueless about it in general. Yes, there was an insane amount of grind, and yes, gil was important to an extent, but taking a cheap shot at playerbase skill kinda proves you either never played the game competitively, or you're just talking out of your *** to start another in the endless line of FFXI arguments.

I'm calling stacked Firestarter, it's what 99% of the BLM community wants and while very powerful, isn't OP. I could also see some buff to Scathe or another ability like it, since everyone says BLM sucks on Levi and Titan..

Not making Apoc worthless would be good and making Lethargy stick on some things here and there would be good too.

Just allow me to get my mp back immediately after I cast Blizzard III out of Astral III and I'm good.

I don't think they'll revert this change since it allowed people to do 3 - 4 flares back to back depending.

Won't lie, I miss how AF3 and UI3 used to work but cheating the 2 Fires out of UI3 with only 1 drawback was not fair. However, SE does need to fix the cast bug on Fire 3 out of UI3 when you cast just a BIT too fast and it doesn't catch you casting in UI3. I used to consistently get the cast bar to speed up halfway through when that happened, now it's a full cast the majority of the time.

Could always give Flare a cooldown timer. I've maintained that strategy as a fix since day 1.

I believe the style of gun use will be based on what the Admiral was up to in the lead to the Leviathan fight with her weaponry. If I recall correctly she was dual-wielding pistols. Perhaps what's unexpected about it is not that there are guns involved, but how they get used. It's possible this won't be a straight-up DPS job like you'd expect but something more diverse (certain FF games had very liberal uses for guns, even ones that healed or restored MP for example). Yoshi does want to formalize the "hybrid" class concept (something I see the summoner job being nerfed transformed into, if this retooling of the job is to be believed), and we have a lot of DPS fighting for too few slots as it is without one of those being taken away.

I just hope the hybrid group of jobs are able to do excellent things no one else can. Otherwise, any job that exists solely to perform multiple roles invariably does them worse than the "real thing" (or you wouldn't use the real thing at all). Even now, summoners could technically heal or tank, but they can't nearly as well as real healers or tanks. If healing and tanking are improved at the expense of DPS, they won't be able to do anything particularly well at all and would lose any hope of serious endgame participation. Without a must-have ability to fall back on, I see hybrids being tolerated, but never in demand.

I just hope this turns out okay.

You can do that still. :X

Money is on either having TC and firestarter have stacks, more scaling on spell speed (this fixes a crap ton of problems), or upping the base potency on all our spells.

#1 and #2 fix a lot of things but #1 doesn't fix the whole, "Well, movement fights still ***** me over." unless you get some lucky RNG. Then again, it could boil down to always saving 1 firestarter proc for movement.

Hand Cannons FTW, even Muskets are fairly close range. Semi-evasion tank and it wouldn't be too crazy. No crazier than Chemist as a item based healer. It could work if implemented properly. I hope it truly is something most of us aren't thinking no matter what it is.

    - a class that uses a gunblade (since we've seen Garleans using them)
    - Ranger or Musketeer

I suppose if they really wanted to throw us a curveball, the new gun class could be Robber => Thief. After all, people would be expecting Thief to be the dagger class, right?

It would be weird for us to use Gunblades, lore wise, even with the help of Cid. Ranger would likely still be Archer without songs, so it wouldn't really be any different to be honest since Rangers in any MMO usually fall under either pure ranged DPS, type that can set traps (though this falls into assassin lines too at times) or "support" types that can debuff heavily, which is what SMN is in XIV.

Musketeer is the only one we haven't seen in FF before if it actually is something unique, otherwise they could have easily expanded on Corsair from XI, since aside bias, the setup was pretty awesome..who wouldn't want an actual support role in this game? Hell it could enhance debuffs to further boost certain classes DPS and it wouldn't change the balance at all since people already prefer casters to close range DPS for example.

    Edited, Apr 26th 2014 12:18pm by Theonehio

Well, the important thing is, the Gun Class could be a branching path for archer instead of it's own separate class. Then it would make sense to be pure dmg.

But I doubt this i the case as:

    1) Yoshi mentioned adding new classes as a means for longevity as most legacy players have all 50s
    2) He would only add classes that filled needed roles.

In this case, we have 1 support, so I'm expecting gambler / corsair.

    One new dungeon.

Am I the only one bothered by the rate they are creating new battle content?

Mini-games. Oh boy. A personal house. *sigh*

Probably some posters are going to say how these peripheral features attract players to the game, and how just because I don't care about hem doesn't mean they aren't important.

A more objective observer would realize the majority of players want to fight things and the % of resources being devoted to the content that players want does not match the % of the popular content being created.

Maybe the patch notes are just incomplete and 2.3 will include more than just one dungeon. Not going to hold my breath.

Yep, as Crystal Tower is ****** from the get go due to it being Reverse progression, much like 2.1, it'll be dead content very, very quickly as SE will put a retarded lock out of some kind to keep it from being cleaned out in a week.

One new dungeon won't be progression, it'll essentially be like Amdapor, what did it drop that benefited you any way aside tomes? The hard mode dungeons as well? Woot vanity gear and crafting mats that can push out gear! yay!

Sadly, with the focus on 4 man, we'll never get actual content outside of primals that serves a purpose for so long during the patch.

I spammed the hell out of CT because the healer gear there is great vanity gear.

Even if the content provides gear with a lower iLvl, as long as it looks sweet enough people will still go through hoops to acquire it. That was the beauty of the glamour system.

I think there's a MUCH larger group of people than you think who are very interested in the mini-games, housing stuff, sidequests, etc.

Problem with the CT complaint is thinking that it's reverse progression. It's more-so a catch-up for alt classes and characters than that. I likely won't be able to gear my secondary character on anything but Crystal Tower due to how infrequently I get to play on him.

Either case, given that dungeon gear caps at 100, I wonder what CT will actually be like this time around, given that there's already ilvl 100 gear out when the endgame cap is 110.

It was part of the snag that's made me take a back seat on this patch. I'm in 'wait and see' mode to see if the looting system improves from what I feel was a drastic back-step. (The limited breath of endgame does not support having an entire tier above currency system as it only appeals to one style of endgame rather than multiple. Also, way too RNG focused. ) Crystal Tower's loot really will be linchpin on whether or not SE can turn this around in my own little personal view.

And 2.2 was a "Finally a patch for me!" as I like grinding, RNG and long term goals.

I hope the patches will be patterned "fast, slow, fast, slow" as in contain content that can be completed easily in a short time span and then a patch with longer term goals in mind.

I am really curious what an upcoming update will add for CT. If I have soldiery gear on my 2 favorite jobs and Animus weapon what is there in CT that I want/need other than vanity and perhaps gearing out alt jobs? Then again perhaps CT isn't intended to be for people like me. I will do it just to experience doing.
