Connection issues. No initial error messages Follow

Hi all,

My wife and I play FFXIV together. We had recently switched her old family Acer machine with a gaming PC:

Lately (After the 2.2 update) she has been having issues with FFXIV not staying connected. Myself on the ps3 and ps4 have no issues staying connected. There are no error messages, just a lag spike then disconnection. After disconnecting she can't get reconnected for quite some time. There's an error about not being able to connect to the host lobby.

I'm a lil tech savy, but not have no idea how to troubleshoot this from the little I have already done.

1. Wire connection
2. USB wifi connection
3. PCI wireless card connection.

None of these three option seemed to have made a difference. We have an Airport extreme running a Comcast Business class connection. Running amazon Prime, netflix, and web surfing without any issues.

I know that's not a whole lot of information to go off of, but any tips on what we can do to stabilize her connection?

Airport extreme would be your wireless modem/router, I think?

Try giving her a static IP address on that to start. (192.168.0.x) Also make sure her device's MAC address is on the whitelist of the device.

If you're trying to run Netflix or Prime at the same time as XIV, it could be causing a bottleneck choke, just FYI. XIV doesn't suck up a lot of bandwidth on its own, but any streaming service can cause problems.

I'm seeing the same problem post 2.2. Distortion in the sound in quiet places (initial loading screen, residence, etc), and after a while of playing there's suddenly massive breakdown of the frame rate and then, if I don't exit in time, it hangs. Trying to relaunch gives an Unable to Check Launcher or something like that, and requires a computer restart to play again. Once it even hung the entire computer and I had to reach for the hard reset.

I've reported it as a bug via the Support button.

Only FFXIV is affected, and only post 2.2.

As a followup:

It seems there are issues with Nvidia Geforce drivers with 2.2. You could try backing out the latest drivers (I didn't, just reinstalled the latest), and definitely if you have the maximum frame rate set at unlimited, set it to 60. I did that last night and ran for hours without issues.

Thank you guys for the input. It is very much appreciated. Looks like I have a lot to try out after work today.

An issue I discovered is that I keep bumping into invisible walls in the terrain, and my camera also bumps into an invisible wall when I spin it around.

Going to downgrade nVidia drivers and see what happens. Was really annoying last night when I was FATE farming to keep getting stuck on boards two millimeters high in Bentbranch Meadows.
