Is FFXIV on PS4 worth getting?Follow

Just saw this Odin fight with at least 100 players and a crazy light show display.
My PC didn't slow down at all and prolly was about half the resources.

I also have a strong laptop but i never seen that much gameplay craziness on it though.

Was wondering if i should get the PS4 version for my living room or just hook up the laptop there.
I was reading that some in my FC got errors messages when they reached the Odin fight.

Just need some PS4 feedback.

In short: Yes. Get the PS4 version. I play on my Mac w/ Bootcamp and my specs aren't shy of awesome. When I stream w/ Wirecast my frame rate drops like a ton of bricks, though. I've YET to see a slowdown on the PS4, and Mhor Dona is loaded with people like 24/7. FATEs run smoothly, CT and Ex's don't hitch, nothing. Haven't experienced an error yet except the three 90k's in a row yesterday when the servers were goofy.

The PS4 version runs very well; it's leaps and bounds over the PS3 version. It runs similar to an upper-medium-end PC but at a fraction of the cost.

It's not to say there aren't a few issues with it, but as a beta client, you'll have to expect a few rough edges. It has crashed a few times, and the touchpad can be disruptively awkward. Even if you use the pad accidentally, it sometimes blocks further controller commands, which is really frustrating. I'm also not sure how you're supposed to "submenu click" with it (left corner tap?), or drag-and-drop (tap and hold?), although it's not to say the functionality isn't there, it's just I haven't figured it out.

There also still seems to be some limits to the windows you can have open. On the PC, I normally like to have my inventory open along side my Market Board browsing so I can see all the things I have that I'd like to sell so I can note all the prices at once, but I either couldn't figure out how to do this on the PS4, or it just isn't possible. But with more space and resources, it seems like a silly "PS3 limitation" to maintain in this version.

But other than a few snafus, it performs very well. You can join raids, "fustercluck" FATEs, or hang out in high populated areas like Mor Dhona without any noticeable slowdowns. There probably are some limits to that, but it would have to be worse than anything I've seen this weekend, and it's been pretty typical. After tanking a few DFs, I mentioned I was beta testing the PS4 version, and didn't get any remarks of any unusual quirks they might have seen. Seeing the game in 1080p is a lot easier on the visual real estate than the 720p the PS3 was limited to, although the quest list is by default still pretty imposing on the right hand side. The game world itself contains a lot more detail than its predecessor, as well, making it come alive on your TV.

I almost feel like they should let current customers continue playing on the PS4 client after the beta is over, because I see no reason it should be mothballed. But if you're going to upgrade from PS3 to PS4, you'll get the client free, and have Early Access next weekend.

This 2nd beta seems to have been optimized and running better than the first.

I've been running FATEs for the Atma quest (no luck) and the frame rate seems a bit higher and the game just looks great.

I've also been using the controller for FATEs and its fine for that, but I'd have to switch over to KB/Mouse for any serious dungeon time. Targeting seems fine (maybe even improved a bit), but trying to map and switch between all the abilities seems a bit daunting on the controller.

I guess if you're used to the controls on the PS3, upgrading to the ps4 version is a no brainer...or if you're a new player that hasn't played the PC version you'd probably like the controller better. Its definitely more comfortable and 100% fine for me for less important stuff.

I always feel like something is just plain wrong with me. I played on the PC and I used a PS3 controller :P Also had the PS3 version, too, but... meh. I tried and tried and tried and just couldn't get use to how clunky the kb/mouse felt to me. That's just me, though. Not saying the kb/mouse IS clunky.

It just depends on what you're used to. I played XI for so long with pure keyboard that I am most comfortable in that arrangement. For me, the clunkiness was having to add the mouse in for a few things where it is straight up more efficient (e.g. mining and harvesting.,) Due to wrist problems I can't play with the mouse for very long, though.

Ran titan ex on PS4 and over a wireless connection on Friday night. Downed him at 15% echo. No problems at all. If I was out of aoe effect, I did not get hit. All errors were my own. No slowdown on FATEs. Light years separate from PS3. I am going to hate having to play on that thing this week while I wait for the PS4 release.

I was completely blown away at how well the the PS4 runs, plays, and looks with FFXIV:ARR. I would tell anyone that was on the fence about getting this for the PS4, to get it. I would tell anyone on the fence about BUYING a PS4 so they could play this game, to buy this game and the PS4 to play it.

I am 100% behind this game on the PS4. Its infinitely better on the PS4 and even better than some of the good PCs out there.

Add in the cross play of the PS Vita and you have gold. I 100% support this game on the PS4 and would tell anyone to buy it. Enjoy!
