Opinions on PS3 to PS4 transition.Follow

The download this morning took 2 hours.
I had to export my macros / buttons from my PS3 as well.
I then had to run through nearly 30 minutes of updates on PS4.
Then I uploaded my macros / buttons etc to the PS4.

Then I began. Surprisingly easy. Load screens very very short. You know that littlle 3 to 4 second pause after you call your retainer and when they actually show up? Gone.

Entered the game, had to adjust the controller settings a bit (your character and system settings do not cross over).

Logged in using my character on Lamia.

The difference is night and day. Wow. I ran some FATEs and just walked around for about 30 minutes before I had to go to work. I queued up for titan HM but it didnt pop. But from the FATEs I did run, I dodged everything perfectly, no issues. It felt like the game was running at triple speed and stable. No slowdown, no miniloads in between everything, no lag to dodge enemy aoe. I can't wait to start Titan! I see now how the top players are beating this new coil content.

My question is.... when the beta ends on 4/7, they made it seem like official service would begin immediately after the beta ends, but also said that the same doesn't officialy have early access until 4/11. I just transferred my stuff over from PS3 to PS4 to hop on this beta. I still have not heard convincing evidence on the status of PS4 service between 4/7 and 4/11, and whether we would be able to play at least on PS3 during this down time.

Any thoughts?

If I read the notes correctly, you did not 'officially' port you PS3 to PS4 yet. After the beta, everything goes back to normal and they 'officially' start the free PS3 >PS4 transfers on 14-April.
I know you said 11-April, but that's early access for pre orders only. I assume you're not pre-ordering and taking advantage of the free PS3>PS4 port(?). You'll have to wait until Monday the 14th (aka FOREVER lol)

Which means you may have to export all that stuff back to the PS3 again?

Maybe I'll wait so I only have to do it all once?

You don't have to export anything back to the PS3. You are accessing the saved data and uploading it onto the PS4. The stuff id there on the PS3 already. Then you have the playability while the PS4 version is down. You can swap freely until the 22nd where it becomes permanent.

My issues is, I get an error message when trying to upload my PS3 configuration. Regardless, the PS4 and PS3 differences are like night and day. If you were on the fence about getting a PS4 for this game, do it. If you can afford it. Best decision of my life... compared to others of this size.

Yeah the export stuff is just your macro and button / hotkey settings. Just don't chnage button settings or make any macros you would want to keep and you should be fine.

But yeah, that is going to be painful going back to the PS3 for a week between 4/7 and 4/14. I am already spoiled.

Same thing here. I get an error message (np-something) and I need to close the application.

Sounds great Val, Can you do Titan Ex w/o latency? That's the true test.

Take care!

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm looking forward to it now. The thing I don't like about keyboard play, besides having to sit by a flat surface, is that dodging while using abilities can be end up in "fat fingered" results. Having smooth-running controller-based play on a comfy couch is just what I was hoping for with the PS3 version, but appears to be finally realized with the PS4.

Well I'm definitely going to spend some time with it tonight then. Thanks for the clarification.

I've really been dragging my feet on Atma farming because of latency in fates on PS3. Might give that a whirl. And I'm definitely gonna jump in some dungeons and primals.

Oh dumb question. Does it prompt/tutor you how to export/import the PS3 settings? Or could you shed some light on that?

If I recall, on the opening screen (where you input your password, there is a PSA on the right that gives some information, but if you are wondering,) what you should do is log into your PS3 version, type your password and everything, but don't hit the green play button just yet. There is a new button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen that says something to the effect of PS3 to PS4 Conversion (or something similar). You want to press this in the ps3 version first and follow the instructions. It will then give you prompt to go into the PS4 version to complete the process. Go over there, and after the PS4 download, update, data center selection etc you end up at the same main screen where you input your password. Again, input password, but dont hit play just yet. Go down to that same button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, press it, follow the options, and your macros and buttons are transferred.

I will know tonight! I expect a bit of latency since I run a wireless connection, but at the very least it won't be coupled with slowdown. And I can see my spell effects! Finally!

I assume it's the gear sets as well because when I logged in without doing the export all my saved sets were gone.

I'm stoked to get a PS4, mainly just for ARR. Hoping I can do it after tax day, barring some unforeseen disaster.

have you tried the ps3 version since upgrading.. I bet it works just fine. I saw they are turning of the ps3 version for those that upgraded to the ps4 version some time after the official launch and that is probably to give time in case something does happen to those that upgrade.. I need to find where they say that..

You can upgrade gear sets to?
I wonder if there is a way for the pc.. I am going to switch from the pc...

Edit:

Well I cant find where I read that. All I can find is once to transfer you can not transfer back.

So I only got one day with the PS4 client, which was yesterday, due to having company over this weekend.

But that one day alone has me completely spoiled. The game looks and runs a million times better than my PS3 AND my laptop! Absolutely no lag at all; I did Titan HM, CT, and a few dungeons and it was the smoothest experience I've ever had on this game. I am legitimately upset that I'm stuck playing on laptop for another week...I want PS4 client now!!!

My opinion? If you are a PS3 player, it is definitely worth it to upgrade to PS4! You will not regret it!

Yeah... ran Titan EX on mah PS4 a few times over the weekend... I'm now a total scoffing snob at all the people who can't dodge stuff... seriously... go get a PS4. It's like FFXIV HD or something. I can't even describe the difference. The word upgrade doesn't even do it justice. I'm so pissed i have to go back to PS3 for a little bit ><

I have only watched a vid of Titan Ex, but I feel that a ps4 with a gamepad would be the superior hardware for beating that fight, simple because nothing beats a gamepad for dodging.

I know you said 11-April, but that's early access for pre orders only. I assume you're not pre-ordering and taking advantage of the free PS3>PS4 port(?). You'll have to wait until Monday the 14th (aka FOREVER lol)

I need to correct myself here. PS3 > PS4 transfer service starts on Friday the 11th, not Monday. So of you're transferring, you get free early access too =)

I'm even more stoked now, come on Friday!! (Shame I have duty on Saturday...bleh!)

I dodge just fine on a keyboard, you merely have to use strafe+movement which really isn't all that hard.

If I fail to dodge, then it is almost always network latency; I'll actually be standing outside of the AoE, but the game will still claim I got hit with it anyways. It doesn't happen very often, 1-2 times per a dungeon if that.

But it is good to know the PS4 version is at least viable compared to the PC; I've known other games (coughwarframecough) where the PS4 struggles and/or players are missing things and/or the quality needs to be turned down and/or gamepad doesn't work very well for the type of play.

Glad to hear you guys are having fun; I'd certainly hope so at that price. lol.
