PS4: Beta Test 2Follow

Fast question.

Is this acting as an early access? All data will be saved unless a catastrophic failure happens, that needs a reset. Correct? I am scheduled for BCoB Saturday night and would hate to lose all that data/drops. Just wondering. Thanks.

I think if they're letting you log in with your live account as opposed to creating a new character, the answer is probably yes.

Someone else will have to confirm though.

Correct, it's your live account data. Further proof is that the beta ends 4-7-14 and the PS4 client isn't fully live until 4-14-14. As crazy as SE can be, I'm pretty sure they aren't going to shut down the account of paying customers for a week simply because they played on PS4 (that would really be crappy.)

Also, you can't migrate your PS3 account to PS4 either yet.

This. And I agree, I think if you port over your character this weekend you will be transferred to the PS4 Beta server (transferred back after the beta) and you cannot log on your PC/PS3 on your real server.
Oh well, FATES worked well on the first beta, and what else is everyone doing since 2.2 =)

I actually think that you will be able to go back and forth on your PS3 and PS4 during this time. SE will be adding the PS4 beta service to your SE account, which will not be replacing your PS3 service. Imagine if there was a problem with the PS4 beta and they shut it down for maintenance or something, again there is no way that paying customers should be locked out of going back to play on the PS3 (again, I know it's SE but we can all cut them some slack).

Non paying customers on PS4 testing the beta get locked out? That's not a big deal.
Paying customers on PS4 beta testing now can't play on PS3? No way, that'd be a PR nightmare. And even if that was potentially the case, I would expect SE to put something in the beta notes to the effect of "In the event that PS4 beta testing ends early or service is interrupted, you will NOT be able to play with your existing character data on your PS3 service account until....so please read carefulyl the ToS blah blah"

Yeah, no way.

Based on what I found in this official description:
http://na.square-enix.com/us/blog/final-fantasy-xiv-realm-reborn-playstation-4-beta
  • Your Phase 1 Beta characters have been wiped
  • Phase 2 Beta (starting April 4, ending April 7) is free for anyone to try (can be downloaded through the PS Store)
  • Any new characters created in Phase 2 can be transferred to the retail version
  • Existing character data (from PC and PS3) can be used for the PS4 Phase 2 Beta*
  • PS3-to-PS4 account transfers begin April 22 (note that this will permanently invalidate your PS3 account, but give you the PS4 version free)
  • If you intend to transfer your PS3 account to PS4, you'll get Early Access to the PS4 version (April 11 - 13)

* It doesn't spell it out, but I suspect any accomplishments made with them while logged into the Beta will be wiped. I could be wrong, but the description indicates that this transfer process for existing characters isn't normally necessary for the retail version, which makes me believe you'll only be playing with a temporary copy of your character.

The latest news from SE is that you should be able to test an existing character on their current world, and new characters will be able to choose any existing world as well, or choose one of three new worlds being set up for the PS4 launch. So, it looks like all your progress made on a PS4 will be saved regardless of whether your character is new or not.

So I make 500k selling HQ Rose gold ingots and you think that is gonna get wiped?

Um.......................................no.

Unless when you said accomplishments you specifically meant the in game achievements and not progress in general. Given how glitchy the achievement system already is, I'm not too worried.

Also, pretty sure the PS3 and PS4 trophy list will be separate (like Flower is) but you should be able to 'refresh' them by simply doing an activity that will trigger it. Not sure though.

They are going to have to let you back and forth it. They would not punish those that sign up to play it on PS4 beta for April 4-7, only to keep them locked out of both PS3 and PS4 from 4/8 - 4/10 until the early access goes up on 4/11.

I remember that wait between the end of the last phase of beta and the first day of early access. It was a killer!

Looks like there won't be a separate Beta server this time. You'll use your existing character on its current server, so it won't be any different than using your character on both a PS3 and a PC. You won't be locked out from playing just because you used a PS4 for a few days (unless, of course, you only have the PS4 version).

What's really interesting is that you can't upgrade and then purchase to add PS3 service back to your account. Gotta buy PS4 version to play both. Curious. Given that Yoshi-p wanted everyone to upgrade for free on PS4 due to the hassle they went through on getting Sony to approve it, it seems odd to make it only one way. Either a marketing move to prop up PS4 sales for SE (or Sony even) or just buying PS4 service on account is just more money for them.

Well, the official announcement is out, and now I'm even more confused. Are "public worlds" all worlds or only the new ones?

Beta Test Phase 2
During beta test phase 2, players have the option to participate using pre-existing characters from the Windows and PlayStation®3 versions. Furthermore, testing will be conducted on public Worlds. All newly created characters can be created on a data center and World of your choosing, and will carry over to official service after the beta test has concluded.

Additional Worlds
The following new Worlds will be available at the start of beta test phase 2:

Mana (Japan Data Center)
Shinryu
Aether (NA/EU Data Center)
Jenova
Chaos (NA/EU Data Center)
Zodiark

* Characters cannot be transferred to these newly established worlds until their economies have matured.

Public worlds are the worlds already open to the public for the PC and PS3 versions. If you use an existing character for the PS4 beta, you'll play on your existing (public) world. If you create a new character for the PS4 beta, you can choose either a public server or one of three new "fresh start" servers.

If it's not there right now (I checked a couple days ago and it wasn't), I suspect the beta client will show up on the store sometime today. Hopefully with enough time to give people a chance to download the game before the beta starts.

For those of you who were in the first PS4 beta, I read somewhere recently that those who were in the first beta will have to delete the client and download the new client. I suspect that the client for this beta will be the actual retail client. I don't know if this is actually necessary or if the PS4 update system will take care of it, but I thought I should put that out there.

It will not be in the PS4: PSN until like 4:00 a.m. EST. I read that somewhere... let me see if I can find it.

Participating in Beta Test Phase 2
Starting Friday, April 4, 2014, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will be available for download from the PlayStation®Store. No registration is necessary after downloading the game client.

* Please note that a different game client is required to participate in phase 2 of the beta test. Users who participated in phase 1 are required to download the new game client.

This says you can't download the client until the 4th. Access starts on the 4th at 1:00 am PST, it possible you may not be able to get the client until then. However, the PSN Store is updated every Thursday so maybe its there today? IfI read that right though there will be a ninja addition or the DL button will be gray until the 4th.

The rest of you, thank you for answering me and helping me understand a little better. /bow

I'd imagine it'll be like the PS3 beta. Once the retail version goes live, those with the client already will need some sort of code to continue playing. That would be the point where people wanting the free transfer from PS3 to PS4 will get a code from SE.

PSN updates every Tuesday. That's why I'm kinda worried it's not there yet.

Checked last night, after deleting the beta client and checking the ps store I was told it was unavailable at this time. But when I got back to my dash board I noticed that it had started downloading the retail client(it was not marked Beta). I was able to update it to the point where I get the "Under Maintenance" screen.

Looks like it's been added a few hours ago but still can't see it if I access the store through my PS4. I can see it if I use my pc to access the storee and from there just add to cart > checkout and now it's downloading on my PS4. Just need to make sure the PS4 is in stand-by mode and that all the network features are turned on if you use that method.

Oh it's there alright, but you have to go digging for it. It's not on the front page. Look under "New This Month" for it. Downloaded it last night. It was almost 12GB. Definitely something you want to get early.
