ARR so much better... 1 questionFollow

#1 Apr 01 2014 at 6:06 AM Rating: Decent
ARR is infinitely better than the original release, I am enjoying the game a lot now and find it to be even addictive.

But I do have a question: it seems there is no "XP partying"? You know, stay at one place where a lot of mobs (above your level) spawn and kill them together? No one does this? Is it not efficient? It was THE way to level up in FFXI and I loved it.

What I have noticed is groups of people running from fate to fate but these are mostly strangers and it's messy and I miss staying in one small area just killing powerful monsters while communicating and having fun with your party members.

that system is dead. mobs do not give all that much exp so if u were to try that u prolly be killing mobs for days at that higher lvl to just to gain a lvl. well atleast mobs outside od dungeons

So (sorry to ask this, just re-started 2 days ago and am an FFXI-guy) what should I be doing to level up?

- Wait for FATEs to pop up and run over.
- ???

Also if partying is dead, is there still "forced" partying somehow? For quests, BCNMs, etc. I don't mean triggering a powerful monster and waiting for random strangers to jump in but to actually form a party & discuss strategy... That was the best part of FFXI. :9

So far the only /sh for stuff I've seen is "LFG FATE ATMA" lol.

You have the main quest that takes you all around the world and unlocks all kinds of stuff as you progress. Lots of lore etc. to see and experience.

Every few levels the story takes you to a 4-man dungeon where you get to do stuff with party members. Most dungeons are mandatory for the story but there are some optional ones. The party is formed for you and the people come from different servers. I don't know how much talking there is nowadays but that's up to you to be active too. There are definitely many players willing and eager to socialize if you are.

Along with the main story there's other optional content too. Hunting & challenge logs, guildhests and guildleves etc.

There is no need to /sh for content most of the time because the game has a vastly superior party search feature compared to FFXI and an infinitely better auto grouping feature. You can look up parties looking for members and join them there for whatever objectives.

Fates and dungeons for EXP, that's basicly it.

Levequests and Guildhests are a remnant of 1.0 and give trivial EXP for the amount of time you have to put in. Only real use for them i've found is to level up your crafting jobs.

Other than what you get dragged into with a random dungeon (duty) there's basicly no real partying.

Not that it matters, since you can go from level 1 to level 50 in a few days and be bored there with the rest of us.

There is soooo much to do to gain exp. you don't have to do fates to level up but its as close to XI leveling as you're going to get.
Guildhest
Hunt logs
class
grand company
dungeons
Story quest
Side quest
The new conquest log

Its much easier to level up than any other game I have played

Yes there are some times you are forced to party. Mainly story quest.

There is partying for EXP, but it happens in instances rather than on random crap in the open world.

There's FATEs too, but that's more Campaign-style EXP, where it doesn't tend to matter too much if you party or not (except for the "NM" FATEs, most of which are rather unsoloable by most classes, and even if you are on something that can survive you might not take it out within the time limit)

Also, for your first class to 50, you can pretty much take it there primarily with quests. (You're actually encouraged to do this, because you are given an EXP bonus from enemy kills and FATEs on all classes that aren't your highest leveled class)

Level 1-10 you can do quickly, don't forget to pick up your class quests every 5 levels.
Hunting logs are great
At level 10 you can then start on Guild Hests and Guild Leves
At 15 you get access to the first dungeons - these are now great xp

Add in all the sidequests and main story quest and you'll have no issue getting your first class to 50.

While I do miss a good exp party Eldelphia is right there are plenty of ways to level now....

the BEST way to level up is dungeons.. just repeat them over and over.. you still get the "party like" experience since youre running through it with 3 other people trying to get from point A to point B leveling along the way.

You can join those Atma fates parties, as all it is is high levelers spamming fates for a terribly low RNG drop. Other than that they are no different than a normal exp Fate pt.

GC Leves are awesome for GC Seals early-game.

I bought myself a rockin' suit of armor at Lv26-30 from my GC by doing about 10 or so GC Leves + some FATE grinding while doing the Main Questline (grabbing whatever FATEs I saw nearby while doing the MQ).

Said suit of armor is quite a notch better than anything crafted or quested at that level and it really didn't take that long to get. Also, I got 75% of the way from 29 to 30 in about 20-30 minutes doing those leves which were fairly easy and rewarding (equipment/promotion-wise).

I'm now a Lv30 PLD wearing the full suit (minus the spiritbind pieces) of Flame Private gear. Stuff Lv30 quests offer me is noticeably worse stat-wise, esp with the set bonuses.

Meanwhile, those Lv28-ish FATEs in the Shroud... they were good when I could actually get any participation in. But there were times that you'd get 10+ people running in and completing the FATE in <30 seconds and the best I could get was Bronze/Silver, that's why I went to GC Leves when that kept happening.

What is this new conquest log that you speak of? Where is that located at? That sounds like the conquest system in FFXI... Which I surely hope that they bring back... There's nothing like competing with the other city states for territorial gains, and perks.

As long as they don't keep the "Failure Punishment".

In FFXI, if Beastmen take control of an area, there's no teleports out of the area (which is a minor issue considering every area has a book that'll happily cast Repatriation for a peasly 50 tabs), but more importantly........no crystal drops at all.

That's a fairly big penalty, and there's just not enough people to keep the areas under nation control rather than beastman control.

Things like Conquest are good, until they add a punishment for people not doing it enough. Then, when the game inevitably starts wind down in popularity and participation, you're faced with empty areas, and hardships based on the fact there's not enough people doing it.

Kinda like WotG's Campaign. It is pretty much 100% impossible to ever see the Allied Ring, or at least it was before they allowed skillups in Campaign Battles, though I'm not sure if that actually had any effect upon how many people participate (or not) in Campaign.

It's not conquest, it's challenge. It's the weekly-waste-xp-on-capped-jobs achievements log thing.

Not sure about that, but there are two challenges that give your chocobo a substantial XP bonus (it's in blue instead of gold) for killing 20 "similar level" mobs and another for 100.
