Cutscene skip?Follow

#1 Mar 31 2014 at 3:38 PM Rating: Decent
I just did a main story dungeon "Into the beast`s maw", when we were at the boss, the spider, a cutscene showed.
After i watched the cutscene i was locked out of the battle. Apperantly i was of no use anyways since it went ok, but i tottaly leeched that battle. So was it because i watched the cutscene or?
None of the party bothered talking much so figured i just ask here:)

It's pretty much expected by most players that you're going to skip all the CS's in the dungeons. You can always watch them later at the inn.

Chances are they didn't notice you were in the CS. In Toto-rok once you've seen it once it doesn't show again, and chances are they just assumed everyone was past that point.

Because they are blind to the "new player bonus prompt and the map completion achievement in chat from first timers

That particular dungeon has a thing where if anyone gets close to the central platform, it draws you all in and starts the fight. 15 seconds after that, you'll be locked out of the fight if you aren't past the line (as with all boss fights). Since that cutscene is one of the longest of any of the story dungeons, it's not unusual for people to get locked out if everyone isn't paying attention.

Or alternately, they saw you were in the cutscene but went in and did it anyway, since the fight is still very easy with 3 people.

Mentalities have changed i guess. In ffxi i never got yelled at for watching a CS for the first time...although if i remember right you couldnt skip them anyway. The best part though, was that a CS only played once and you never had to see it again unless you went to talk to a goblin footprint.

I think they should implement that. After a CS has been viewed the first time, it doesnt play again. I think that would calm some people down because it would happen less frequently.

The funny thing is that I've wished the opposite with Toto-Rok. I thought that CS at the end was pretty cool, and I was disappointed on repeat runs when I realized they completely skip that CS and don't even give me the option to watch it. If I'm helping friends in my shell progress in the storyline, they should be allowed to enjoy the story the way it was meant to be enjoyed: during the dungeon itself, and not later on in the Inn. And if they're going to be watching the CS, I might as well enjoy it over again while I wait.

Wow.

I'm glad I did my Thousand Maws with my FC + 1 random healer rather than me just DFing it myself.

I think maybe I'll try asking my FC on any more first-time clears of dungeons from now on after reading this thread.

They really should make it so that the boss cannot be engaged while someone's in a cutsene.

But then you miss out on awesome Leroy Jenkins moment like I had with my LS mates. We were doing Toto Rok for a couple of members who needed it, and my friend who had already done it before dropped down into the arena... and inadvertently started the fight. I ran in after I saw him get drawn in, and we got it down to about 50% health before we wiped (THM with Physick does not make a good main healer).

To this day, we get a good laugh out of that whenever we run Toto Rok.

Yeah I missed out on my first dungeon boss fight tonight due to being in a cutscene. Kinda crappy that now I'll be skipping all of them and watching them at a later time. Not very good design for new players for sure.
