More information about this Atma quest (likely the first zodiac weapon upgrade)

Relic Zodiac - Atma - Level 100 weapon

Looking through item descriptions...

Atma of the Maiden - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in the Central Shroud. (Careful!! in game has mistranslation of Central Thanalan)
Atma of the Scorpion - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in southern Thanalan.
Atma of the Water-bearer - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in upper La Noscea.
Atma of the Goat - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in the East Shroud.
Atma of the Bull - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in eastern Thanalan.
Atma of the Ram - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in middle La Noscea.
Atma of the Twins - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in western Thanalan.
Atma of the Lion - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in outer La Noscea.
Atma of the Fish - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in lower La Noscea.
Atma of the Archer - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in the North Shroud.
Atma of the Scales - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in central Thanalan.
Atma of the Crab - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in western La Noscea.

Clearly zodiac signs. My guess is that we have to fell all twelve. How hard they are is anyone's guess at this point. Are these solo, four man, or 8 man quests? My guess is that they are all equivalent in strength to chimera / hydra, but I am seriously hoping that is not the case.

After watching that video, the music from the new Amdapoor dungeon and Brayflox seems really cool and different! The Halatali music seems, bleh.

Oh, bad news Kat. Just read the patch notes. Stuck with a bunch of seeds and fish. That's what I get for speculating. At least if we get aquariums mine will be the coolest ever.

The music at Brayflox section is "Fury" and Halatali's section is "Beneath Bloodied Banners", both are from XIV 1.0. Looks like they are trying to slowly using up all of 1.0's music.

Grasping at straws here but:

Atma of the Maiden - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in the Central Shroud.
haukke manor hard mode?

Atma of the Crab - The crystallized soul of a formiddable foe felled in western La Noscea.
(I Just) Died in Six Arms Tonight? Maybe a hard mode of this Fate?

They are very much fates.

For the Level 100 Relics, you'll be hunting down no less than 12 fates (The ones described above.)

For the Animus (110) relics, you will be purchasing books with Myth tomes (1500 tomes a piece) then completing the trials listed on those tomes. Note, we only have 4 of the 12 tomes available to even buy right now, with more coming in subsequent patches.

People wanted long term goals and challenges, there it is. Not sure how I feel about it all. Not terrible, not amazing. Lots to be interested in at least.

And not 1500 Heavy Metal Plates in which you get no more than 3-4 plates per NM with a group of 12-18. Smiley: glare

Citation needed? Ok.

http://xivdb.com/?quest/66971/Up-in-Arms < This is the one that differs you to the Atma Fates.

http://xivdb.com/?quest/66972/Trials-of-the-Braves < This is the one that details the whole buying Trials for Mythology.

There is a lot, and I mean a LOT of information to sift through that Premium Virtue has pulled. XIVPads has been at it for a while now.

Great! Here's the copy/paste from the journal entry:

23 System
By participating in certain FATEs while equipped with a relic weapon zenith, you may obtain an atma crystal. The locations of the FATEs and the atma yielded are as follows:
#24 System
Central Thanalan: Atma of the Maiden
Southern Thanalan: Atma of the the Scorpion
Upper La Noscea: Atma of the Water-bearer
#25 System
East Shroud: Atma of the Goat
Eastern Thanalan: Atma of the Bull
Central La Noscea: Atma of the Ram
#26 System
Western Thanalan: Atma of the Twins
Outer La Noscea: Atma of the Lion
Lower La Noscea: Atma of the Fish
#27 System
North Shroud: Atma of the Archer
Central Thanalan: Atma of the Scales
Western La Noscea: Atma of the Crab
#28 System
This information can be reviewed in the completed journal for the quest “Up in Arms,” which can be found under “Side Story Quests.”

And then:

Much to your delight, G'jusana has the full collection of the Trials of the Braves in stock, and offers to sell you each book for the bargain price of 1,500 Allagan tomestones of mythology. The means to possessing a mightier arm lies before you─you need but reach out and take it. ※You must be equipped with the relic weapon atma you wish to enhance when making the purchase. ※You can possess only one book in the set of nine at any given tome. ※Upon completing the objectives in all nine books, present your relic weapon atma to Jalzahn to complete the enhancement process.

Complete Atma fates first for Zenith Atma > Then buy the book for 1500 myth and complete the Trials.

Does anybody know if PLDs have to upgrade the sword and shield separately, or are do they both get upgraded together as in the original Relic questline?
#17 Mar 26 2014 at 8:35 PM Rating: Excellent
More Notes:

- Complete Atma fates first for Zenith Atma > Then buy the book for 1500 myth and complete the Trials.
- By defeating all the foes listed within a book of the Trials of the Braves, your relic weapon atma will gain in attributes.
- Distinct sets of Trials of the Braves exist for each relic. A set is comprised of nine books, of which only four are available at first.
- A paladin's set comprises seven books for Curtana, and two for the Holy Shield. Only six of these are available for exchange at first.
- Each book can be purchased from G'jusana. Please note, however, that you can possess only one at any given time.
- You must complete all of the objectives in a book before you may obtain another.
- Alternately, you may also dispose of it by speaking with G'jusana, or via the Key Items menu.

Looks like we will need a total of 6000 Myth to buy the 4 books that will be available until more are release with next patch.

I really like that the quest is long and requires a lot of tomes and stuff. It gives me something to do and something to spend tomes on after the first few weeks of the patch, and more importantly, gives me a long term goal. Long term goals are something I've really been missing in this game. Everything is so fast and relatively easy that I have nothing to dream about. Instant gratification is all well and good but there's nothing to dream about when practically everything in the game can be attained in a matter of days, or a few weeks at the most.

The key word is may..

I was really hoping this would have nothing too do with fates... I am so tired of fates.

The books sound cool.. I have always like the trials in FFXI, sounds about the same.

Lots of tomes, no biggie I dont mind farming.

I am reading this right too? there are two phases? so basically plus 2 and plus 3?
If so thats cool too..

Thanks for the info...

Wonder if there will be any way to guarantee the drop of the atma? In XI's Abyssea, you aimed for a "red" stagger (done with elemental weapon skills) to force the KI to drop.

I hope not, I dont want staggers. I doubt it though since fates most of the time are just random people...

FFXIV finally feels like FFXI! And still, a tsunami of QQ has swept across the official forums...

I, for one, like the concept of the Zodiak FATE grinding. There doesn't appear to be specific FATEs that you need to stand around and wait for... you just need to keep doing them, and wait for the drop to happen. I like this because it's completely accessible, whether you're solo or in a group of 20. It may get tedious, but at least you're moving around and playing the game.

FFXI remains the king of tedious gameplay, but let's face it... ARR needed some grindy content to give people something to shoot for.

Did about eight FATEs last night with no luck, but looking forward to getting in game tonight and getting my grind on!

So far, this appears to be the case... random drop from FATEs in the zone.

It's early, though, so we'll see if the apparent randomness keeps up.
