How do you approach the hunting logs?Follow

How does everyone do their hunting logs? Do you try to do as many as you can right away, do you do them a few at a time over the whole 10 levels, do you forget about them completely until after the fact?

Personally I like to do them ASAP. I have a contest with myself to see how low level I can finish the whole thing. My personal bests are 7 levels under for SMN and the full 10 levels for WHM (cleared the 40-50 log at level 40 with a lot of sleep>nuking.)

How about you guys? What do you like to do?

Waited until 45ish and then did the whole thing (minus whatever I might have picked off in the process of leveling up, but ever since they boosted dungeon EXP, it was usually nothing)

I like to do what you do: attempt to complete it all at the lowest level possible. Usually, though, I only do logs up to level 30 so I can't remark about the difficulty of the higher level ones!

It's a fun challenge. I've had some intense battles as a level 14 going up against a level 17. >_<

I usually forget about my hunting logs. By the time I get around to it, I end up steamrolling past the entries because I'm past the level for them.

I use them to fill in gaps between dungeon levels, along with FATES.

I just remembered I had them after five months. The only reason I remembered is because I saw a random marker over an enemy of a random low level job.

TO answer the question though, I would do them as I saw them. If I was close to an area, I would go get it. Otherwise I would leave it be. Haha, not much help from me.

Depends on the job and the time available... For DPS jobs, I usually do them as I level by area while I wait for dungeon queues to pop - leading to low entries and high level entries at the same time. For my main healer - I have yet to finish the hunting log...

I usually do them on a more casual basis. If I see an enemy that happens to be on the log (with the little icon above it), I attack it, but I usually don't go out of my way to complete log entries. The only exception is if I've realized I haven't completed any log entries in awhile. In those cases, I'll check the log out and see what I'm missing. Usually, it's an uncommon enemy in a small, isolated area, or an enemy in a dungeon. In those cases, I will actively seek out a log entry.

Having said that, hunting log entries are good if you need a little bit more experience to level up and don't feel like doing dungeons, FATES, or normal grinding. Some of the higher level logging entries can net you some pretty good experience, especially when added together.

Considering I'm legacy the only hunt log that actually did anything for me was the Grand Company one, so I did that as I did the main story since a lot of monsters (least for Gridania's) were found in most of the main story path and dungeons.

Well, my first class (GLA) is only 20.

I was doing the Logs along with quests, and Gathering activities in an area, I'd keep a mental note if there were any hunting log objectives in the area I had to go to.

I finally finished the Rank2 logs (1-20) and opened up Rank 3 but haven't touched that yet as I'm trying to get crafts caught up and I still need to knock off Copperbell for my Mount (which I wish to do before doing any more Gathering stuff).

But I imagine I'd likely do something similar -- mosey along the areas, picking them off whenever I happen to be in the vicinity if I can find the stupid things.

Sometimes, the log isn't very clear about *where* exactly something is, for example, Bloated Bogies. It says "Western Thanalan, Footfalls".

I looked everywhere down in that watery area, no bogies even at night. Then, finally, I noticed that there was this narrow tiny little passageway from a town to the next area, and.....yup, the bogies are actually There, on the very edge of where it says "Footfalls" on the map, right next to Another area (I forget the name of).

Wish they'd have, I don't know, shaded areas so you know where one area ends and another begins or something. Or, let you highlight an area on the map when you select a hunting log target or something. Also had trouble with the Imps/Rotting Nobles in Drybone.

They do have some of them really tucked away :)

I get really excited about them, and then do all of them for one character, and then figure out to use the hunting wiki for mob locations on the next character, then I do a bit less of them for the next character, and then realize there are faster ways to get exp, and then do them just sometimes when there are no Fates, and then finally avoid them unless something else in the game basically places me face-to-face with one of the mobs I need to kill.

That's just how I do 'em.

The rings they give now for completing the log on a given job was a nice addition. I didn't know they added them until I got one from the award NPC in Grind.

Yeah, woulda been nice at the start of the game, by time they added them it was pretty much useless to quite a lot of people who kept up on their tomes/primals.
