Is anyone aware of any reviews of the PS4 version with Vita remote play? I am wondering how well it works, and how the response times are for different activities. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

I read an interview with the producer on the official forums... he and the person interviewing him seemed to agree that remote play would be suitable for pretty much anything in the game except for hard/extreme-mode primals/dungeons/bosses.

Any crafting or questing with remote play should be fine... even story dungeons/fights should be doable.

I haven't read any reviews, but I did get a chance to try out remote play myself. It was surprisingly very, very good. I even fought several enemies while using it (I had to stop because I didn't have my power cord nearby and was getting low on power). Some of the controls involve the back touchpad, so it can take a little getting used to if you're not used to using it. The game looks great and sounds great. The speed is quite acceptable. Overall, it was just a very surprising experience. Is it as good as the PS4 or a PC? Of course not, but it is definitely more than playable. Large FATEs, boss fights, and anything else involving a lot of people or special effects MIGHT be a problem, but the bulk of the content should be just fine.

I do think the Vita will be PERFECT for the crafting and gathering classes.

Time will tell better, of course, but my initial impression is that the game on Vita via Remote Play is probably better than the game on the PS3.

I'd love to hear what others think of it so far!

I need more info on this stuff. It also seems that they can handle a lot of things. Look at this blog post? http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/000631.html If you look at the bottom, they say they are taking on Titan in Hard Mode. Really? I need to know how well this actually works because this can change the way some of us play forever.

If anyone finds some true reviews, please let us know? Thanks.

I tried it out for a few minutes myself, Just ran around and killed a few low level mobs just outside the city gates. I pretty much agree with what Vaaniks wrote. I was only 4feet away from my PS4, but there was no discernible lag between using the controls on the vita, to it happening on screen. I had to stop using it as the touchpad controls on the back kept messing it up for me. I have large hands and can't hold the vita well without accidentally touching it all the time. Next beta I might give it another try from further away, but so far I'm impressed with how well it did work.

I have a Vita as well (the only one in my city, as I often joke). I'll definitely be trying this out in the April 4th beta test (assuming it's available).

I'm actually a bit tempted to pick up the PS4 version just to be able to craft and gather on my Vita. Of course, that means I'd have to buy a PS4 first, so there's that little hurdle to jump first.

Remote play BLEW away any expectations I had.
Here's the only video I took, you get the point
http://youtu.be/wE1c5dWpiMQ

I giggles, I ran sastasha on the Vita. Works fine, but I wouldn't recommend doing a dungeon unless you've done it several times before; landscape becomes an issue.

I WILL be trying CT on phase 2, but I can do that with my eyes closed now =)

You're not the only one that will be buying these up, mid-April.

Ok just to confirm... You can only play on the vita while your ps4 is on and while you're on the same wifi connection. This is correct.

Remote Play is not a stand alone option. This is just to allow you to take the game with you as you run to the bathroom, or the kitchen to grab a sandwich, or to allow someone else to use the primary television that the PS4 is attached to while you chill elsewhere.

Are you sure?. I thought you can take the game with you on a wifi connection.. My friend says he can as long as he leaves his ps3 on or is that something specific with this game.

I'm pretty sure they need to be on the same wifi network.

If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

I just edit my post above.

But It is game specific and how much they allow you to do on remote play...

Slightly off-topic but very cool, this is not a Vita but it's a guy who is playing FFXIV on his cell phone at work:

LINK TO REDDIT DISCUSSION

LINK TO IMAGE

Basically you can set it up to play remote if you're on PC/Laptop and have the correct setup...

Here's the top reply in that thread for reference on how to do this:

Quote:
here may be other ways to do this, but I used the Limelight application for Android to stream the game from my PC. A GeForce 650 or higher is required and you must have GeForce Experience installed. I'm running version 1.8.0...version 1.8.2 (the latest) breaks streaming over the internet. Streaming over the internet is done with an application called ShieldProxy running on your computer and you must forward the required ports. It's a whole lot easier to play the PS4 version on the Vita via remote play, but this will do just fine until that's actually released. This will also work with any other game that supports controllers.

Edit: Links below

Limelight (link goes to latest pre-release version. It has a ton of quality improvements.): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50473010&postcount=401

ShieldProxy (link goes to full instructions to get it running. this is only needed if you want to play away from home): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435481

Edit 2: One tip if you try this... Set FFXIV to run at 1280x720 and configure your UI on your computer. It'll save you a lot of headache. Setting FFXIV to 1080p and streaming at that works too, but text becomes hard to read and I've found the 720p 60fps streaming to be of higher quality than the 1080p 30fps option anyway (there's a 1080p 60fps option, but I don't think anyone has that working well). You'll also absolutely need a controller to play it (bluetooth keyboard and mouse might work too, but I haven't tried). On my Nexus 7, my PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers work perfectly. My HTC One on the other hand has utter **** controller support (PS3 controller doesn't work at all and the 360 controller only works for navigating the home screen) so I'm going to have to buy a Moga controller for that. The touch screen does work for mouse input though. Also, if you want to chat, you'll need a bluetooth keyboard as the game doesn't support a virtual keyboard except for on the login screen.

There's three possibilities for Remote Play:

a) Direct wireless connection between Vita and PS4 (wireless Ad Hoc)
b) Connect on the same LAN (PS4 can be wired, but Vita must be wireless)
c) Connect over the Internet (you must open the necessary ports in your router and leave your PS4 on or you won't be able to connect).

How well does c) actually perform though? I lag enough on my DSL connection that's wired to the LAN. I can't imagine getting any kind of decent performance using a remote desktop connection type thing.

Latency is an issue, which is probably what Yoshida was referring to when he said you'd probably want to stick to things like gathering and crafting. It works fine for things that don't require quick responses, but you won't be able to beat Titan connecting with your Vita over the internet. Using the Vita at home, however, should be just fine.

I agree unless the data from the servers is sent directly to the Vita which I doubt. That would mean the game actually loaded from the PS4 to the vita again I doubt because it would take a long time.. .
Why not just release a vita version of the game.

For the record, all Yoshi does apparantly is run titan ex over and over again (and likely on a latency free connection) so I think it might be good for him to see what it is like to take a landslide to the face when he is 15 feet out of the visible aoe effect =p

That it's kind of amusing how the only real reason to consider getting a Vita is for a glorified controller.

That is funny...
I dont know if you remember the issues I was having with Titan and lag.... I am sure plenty do. I have now beat titan several times.

Anyway I upgraded my graphics drivers and allot of my lag went away. I saw myself dropping down too 8 fps in there sometimes. Now my lowest is 30 fps.. It made a difference in lag. So anyone having lag issues try upgrading your graphics drivers. I still have lag but I can over come it most of the time now. It was so bad before if weight of the land was in the middle, I could run to the side of the arena and still get hit and sometime even move outside of the aoe cast a spell and still get hit.

I am almost positive that once I plug in my PS4 on April 14th and upgrade from my PS3 my latency on titan will instantly disappear.

Just to confirm, the vita CAN do remote play over the internets. However, your connection speed will be slower than locally, and I don't think you'll be doing much outside of crafting & AH mgmt...

When you fire up the Vita for remote play it does this.

1) try to establish AD Hoc connection (fastest and best). It not even using your router here, it's a direct connection to the PS4
2) try to establish connection from you home router (less optimal than 1. But still works for odd situations AD Hoc would not work like being too far away from the PS4.
3) try to connect to your PS4 over the public internet (slowest, and you'll likely need to configure port forwarding on your router to get this to work. If you can't figure out the port forwarding, see if your router has a DMZ option and put the PS4 IP in the DMZ; no one is trying to hack PS4s atm =)

The vita is for those that have family members that hate watching you play video games. My wife can watch whatever she wants and I can play FFXIV all I want. Its win win.
