Can I level up a craft without spending money or gathering?Follow

I know there are leve quests but as far as I can tell you still have to provide your own mats for these. In a lot of crafting games there is an npc, usually at the crafter's guild, that gives you work orders and the materials to complete those orders. Does FFXIV-ARR have this? If so, where?

I'm doing leatherwork and weaving if that makes a difference.

For the first 10 to 20 levels the answer is "yes". There are guild vendors but you have to buy the materials. After those first few levels there are many ways to get materials. Some are harvested from DoL classes others are obtained only by killing monsters. That said I know of no way to get to 50 without spending money unless you harvest them yourself. In most cases the leve rewards will cover the costs of materials, unless you are buying HQ.

Main parts for LW is getting skins off monsters and sadly alumen to turn them into leather. Alumen comes from mining or marketboard, I don't know of any MMO that has the method you are looking for. It will cost you one of two things, you will either need to spend gil or do gathering.

The only possible way to do it is have someone give you everything you need to do so (Highly unlikely that this would happen).

You may have to spend a bit up front, but in the end you almost break even. I took CRP to 50 recently and by the end of it all I had just about the same amount of gil from when I started. Just look for a repeatable high reward leve that has cheaper ingredients, and you're good to go. Towards the end, some of the challenges may be easier to just straight up buy from the market, but it may be worth a go to try and make on your own.

Without spending gil or gathering? Well, that's a tall order. If you don't count farming as gathering, then I guess the answer is yes. But it will be far less efficient trying to farm certain items (like ores by killing Coblyns).

How exactly do you plan to get materials without spending money or gathering? You can easily make money while leveling if you know what you're doing, but you either have some money to start out with, or go start gathering the stuff yourself.

Yeah, it's kind of an either/or prospect.

There are some crafting ingredients you can get as a happy side effect of running dungeons (mmmm diremite webs), but almost all crafts full in a variety of ingredients from other crafts, farmed sources, and things you have to gather in the fields.

So you can either 1. Buy it from other players and not spend any time or 2. Go out and get it yourself.

1.0 actually gave the players the ingredients needed for leves but that is no longer the case in 2.0.
