not installing correctly? (ps3)Follow

ok when you fist put the disc in it asks you to accept agreements, then asks if you have an SE account or if you wanna create one... after you do all that the game installs a quick launcher updated and installs the launcher (this is the fast install/update prior to the point where you put in your username and password and one time password (if you have one) then click login and it installs a massive 5+ gb update)... now BEFORE you get to that point (when the game does the quick install and update of the launcher) isnt it installing the launcher to the hard drive of the ps3? meaning once that happens you can exit and take out the disc then access the launcher from where youd access your downloaded ps3 games?

so why is it that after the launcher install/update I cant find the game on my ps3 and the only way to access the game (and get t the huge 4+ gb download part) is by using the disc and starting it that way?

Not sure exactly why you're having a problem. My PS3 install went flawlessly.

If the game isn't working for you, my guess is you just missed a step in the instructions. It's a pretty easy install process, so just don't skip steps and you'll be fine.

my install went perfectly too the launcher update and launcher install both finished in no time..... my question however is once that finishes can you start accessing the game directly from your ps hard drive at the point or do you have to wait until after the huge download that happens after you try to login to the game for the first time

If your install went fine, then you should be able to play without using the disc.

You must have missed a step, or your ps3 is defective.

Possibly a dumb question, but are you logged in to the same Playstation account as you used to install the game?

Could be something weird where the game will only appear on the PS3 account associated with your Square Enix account.

Honestly, sounds like you didn't install the game correctly, or perhaps you're just not finished installing yet.

I highly recommend reading the installation instructions, even if you think you've followed them, just to be safe.

I don't really want to tell you to do something that could further mess up your installation.

In case you've lost your instruction manual, here's a very easy-to-follow guide, complete with moogles and pictures.

I may be completely off the mark here (or I havn't heard or seen otherwise) but....

Unless you download the digital copy of the game, I'm fairly certain you have to load from the disc every time. I think it works like other retail games (and like FFXI did on the 360), whereby even if you choose to install all the data to the hard drive, you still have to have to load from the actual game disc as verification you have purchased it. With digital purchases it is different, as proof of purchase is slap bang on your gaming account.
As I said, I could be off the mark, but I've been running ARR on the PS3 since open beta, and as soon as I transitioned from early access to main retail release with a physical copy, the game launcher would only pop up in my download list when the disc was in the drive.

Hope this help :-)

nope back when i bought FFXIV on launch on ps3 in august i only needed the disc for the initial install... once the game is installed and you start playing the game you no longer need the disc as it plays directly from the hard drive just like ffxi on the ps2 (unlike ffxi on 60 which needed disc). however my question is... the disc installs the launcher....so AFTER you install the launcher but BEFORE you load the launcher for the first time, and put in your user name and password then start the update..... do you need the disc/does ffxiv show up on your hard drive before that point... or doe that all take place AFTER youve started and patched the game?

before anyone says "youve done this already then so why are you asking?" Ill say i did this back in august... its practical;ly march now.... im trying to help someone with their ps copy on the phone and theys installed the launcher from the disc but havnt updated it yet (since the patch is 4gigs and says itll take 2 days) but anyway they claim they dont see FFXIV on the XMB where their downloaded games are even though they installed the launcher... and i know for a act its supposed to be there since I see it on MY ps3 just fine

Logic would dictate that the Launcher is just that, the launcher. And that the initial "4+ GB update" is an update/install done from the disk itself. Wouldnt be much point to a physical copy otherwise if it were just for the launcher, which could have easily been obtained from the PSN store.

Still, above all else, RTFM.

I can confirm, for the PS3 at least, no disk needed after the initial install.
