The words are almost microscopic. .I am playing on a 42" hdtv and the words and mini map are super small.. I cant find a setting to fix this. Also there is a gil amount icon on the bottom of the screen which is nice. There is a box area with a bunch of little boxes in it on display.I have no idea what its for. Its above the gil icon. Over all its about like the PS3 version so far.

The little boxes are your inventory I think

The increased resolution defintely will take some getting used to. Haven't had the chance to mess with settings yet

Something we learned on PC: You can adjust your font size. I have mine set to 16 point.

I was able to increase the font size of the chat window, but the quest dialogue remains microscopic. I can't seem to find a setting that will affect quest dialogue size. The UI elements I was able to resize via the HUD layout area, but not that.

There is a thread under this one that I have all the instructions on how to change chat sizes, as well as fonts and enlarging and moving, resizing the entire chat window, quest Windows, etc. The name of the thread is Chat log I believe. The only thing we can't change is the NPC quote box, but the dev's are working on that one to utilize the R3 bottom like everything else. Read that thread, it has all the instructions on how to resize everything so you don't go blind, lol.

Yea the menu and dialogue font size wont change in size. Well except for the menus but you have to increase the box size in the hud config.
#10 Feb 23 2014 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
I did all that. Like you said it doesnt change the npc stuff. Also there isnt a way to make mini map bigger.

Yes there is, mini-map settings. Press the TouchPad, once will get you the chat log, twice will get you somewhere in the duty finder list, a third time will get you on the cog wheel on the bottom of the mini map. Click that cog wheel and it changes size. There are 4 different sizes.

Chat box, I learned how to copy paste with my phone, lol.
If you have a mouse it's easy, if not its just as easy but you need to be in virtual mouse mode. Hold down L1, then click the joystick R3. You can then use the right joystick as if it was a mouse, with L2 being the left button and R2 being the right button. So, all you do is be in mouse mode, drag the cursor to the upper right corner of the chat box itself. The cursor will change shape. I can't remember if it's a hand or star or whatever, but it will change. Then hold down the L2 (left button on mouse) and drag it out with the stick. You can go up, out, whichever direction you want to go and the chat box will change size as you see fit.

More info, copy/pasted
By the way, with the cursor in mouse mode, and move it to the bottom of the chat box, where it says "Battle", if you hold down L2 (left button on mouse), and drag the stick, you can move that entire chat box wherever you want it. You can put it in the middle of the screen if you want. Or, for FFXI old schoolers, you can move it to the center of the bottom of the screen. :)

Again, copy/pasted
Also, any window that pops up, like when you start a quest or end a quest..... Before you accept or complete it, if you click R3, it will resize it so you can read it. It will remember this size always when doing quests.

Last one copy/pasted. I try R3 with every window, lol. It works.

R3 also works with all the menu windows. Character, equips, inventory, settings menus, etc.

Yeah, doesn't really seem like that much of an upgrade from the PS3 version so far. Running around 30 FPS, not sure if it's locked at 30 though.

How are you able to tell the FPS on the PS4?

To me the visual changes are very noticeable.

Indeed!
Had a hard time stopping playing on PS/4 tonight. Even knowing it will all be deleted.
Going back to PS/3 will not be easy after this.
(Maybe will hook the DS4 to the PC standing beside the TV to pretend I'm still on PS/4..)

I can see and feel a huge difference, especially loading times in between zones. On PS3 you knew who was running PC or PS3 when you did story dungeons with cutscenes and even though you tried as fast as you could to skip the scenes, the PC players would not only be done, but be already walking halfway past the room on the map. PS3 players would always have to sprint to catch up. ><

And although they both run at 30 FPS, the PS4 handles it so much better with no hiccups or lag. Very smooth.

I also like the fact that we can use hotbars with the PS4 so that we can have all of our abilities in front of us if we chose to use a mouse rather than cycle with the R1 button on the cross bar. I hate watching u-tube vids and seeing how much easier it was to just have each ability at the click of a button instead of clicking through 2 buttons to get what you want.

The game definitely runs higher than 30fps. Its just not consistent.

I'm level 15 and this is the first time using a controller with FFXIV...as a PC player this is a pretty big adjustment. My first two guildhests were a disaster even though we won. I will most likely get a wireless keyboard and mouse and use that if I can't get the controller down. I'm tanking with MRD BTW.

As far as the technical aspects on PS4, it looks good and it runs a bit better than my PC at 900p. (My PC is a Q9550, 6gb ram, 128gb ssd, 550ti). The only advantage my PC has is the loading times from the ssd.

If I sit close to the TV the readability is fine, but if I move too the couch, its a bit harder to see. Its not impossible, but there needs to be an adjuster for the quest dialog, and map locations.

Other random stuff: I did try a wired keyboard and mouse and it installs and works flawlessly. I don't use them because there is no comfortable location by my TV, hence the need for a wireless KB/mouse.

The touchpad is just as responsive as a mouse, but its still a little awkward. It can right click and left click, tap to click and click to click. But its not entirely intuitive. Mouse mode would be better for mouse things.

Typing is still best with a keyboard, but the gyroscope in conjunction with the auto fill, can work in a pinch.

All in all the game runs and looks great; it just needs some tweaks\optimization. For a "beta" its really solid. Honestly my problem is just being horrible with the controller. It gives me a newfound prospective on playing with PS3 players.

Have you tried a mouse and a controller. I have not dl the game for my ps4 yet.. I started playing joystick/mouse on the PC and now an used to it. My guess is you could use a wireless mouse and joystick on the ps4 too..

On PS3 I know that on active windows (like the one that pops up when you complete a FATE and receive rewards) I can click in the right thumbstick repeatedly to change the size of that window. maybe you just need to drag your mouse over the window you want to resize, click the mouse button to activate, and then click the right thumbstick in a few times? That's what I would try, but poor me, I can't even find a place that sells a PS4 right now so I can't verify.

I can't wait to play on the ps4...

Just this weekend, I finally figured out how to resize elements of the PS3's HUD. Before, the game was unplayable with such large HUD elements, but this weekend I had a blast with it!

Still, I've read several posts/reviews from people saying how the PS4 looks much more on par with a gaming PC, which means better depth of field and more fluid animations, which are the two things that bother me most about the PS3. I'm really excited because I actually kind of prefer moving with the controller more than the mouse/KB... throw in the touchpad, and that may become my preferred option for playing the game.
