RMT and other illicit activities upset the balance of the game and, as such, are prohibited under the Terms of Service.
Because we have confirmed the existence of players who are engaging in these illicit activities, we have taken the actions listed below.

Time Period: Jan. 30, 2014 to Feb. 5, 2014
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT advertising: 417
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for illicit activity: 517
- Action Details: Permanent ban from FINAL FANTASY XIV

In any case, players who discover any confirmed cheats should, under no circumstances, exploit or disseminate such
information. Instead, we ask that players file a report by using the in-game command [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].

We will continue to take stringent disciplinary action against any accounts with confirmed involvement in RMT/illicit activity; players should take care to steer clear of any activity that violates the Terms of Service.

Saw this on login today.

Maybe it'll stop the cockroaches for a day or two.

Did we ever get a confirmation from our SE rep about the use of FFXIVAPP?

Well there's nothing wrong with App itself, it's just the certain plugins you can get from a certain site that'll tick SE off.

But since SE cant check if you are or arent using those plugins, they're just going to asume that you do. I bet it's severely frowned upon at the very least... If not punished outright.

It's like holding a Gun anywhere outside of the US. You can wave it around if you like and say you dont have any bullets in it, but everyone is going to asume that you wouldnt have a gun without bullets, nor can they check, and will shoot you just to be safe.

According to the community rep Hvinire here: (emphasis mine)

The type of software you are describing in this thread doesn't appear to directly control anything for the FFXIV client, and as such isn't breaking any of the rules. Similar to other programs, 3rd party software is used at your own risk, and we recommend you employ your best judgement when running software not mentioned in the user agreement.

Square Enix obviously can't endorse one parser over another without having to endorse all of them, and any comment they make regarding FFXIVAPP could be considered an endorsement if it is to confirm it's allowed. In addition, any app they support they would have to assume liability for. As a result, Zam will continue to offer FFXIVAPP until Square Enix asks us to remove it, and I myself will continue to not only use it but continue work on my Logitech plugin I'm developing for it.

Wint's response in another forum post.
