A way to decrease RMT spam?Follow

On Adamantoise server this is getting worse and worse everyday. Is it the same on yours?

I was thinking how I could cut down on the spam I get after my blist is full. One way SE could do this is implement an auto-silence feature.

For example: If you send a tell to more than 10 different players within a span of 2 minutes, you automatically get silenced for 1 hour (this applies to all characters on the same account). People who are silenced cannot talk in say, tell, shout, yell, or even send mail. They can still talk in party and FC chat.

Thoughts?

I like it, my blacklist has been 200/200 for ages.

The solution i found was to simply filter /tells from my main chat, and put them on a seperate chat. And turned off the chime. It works, but it's a major inconvenience. I wish SE would actually do something about RMT in this game. It's slowly killing it for me :/

My solution is to occasionally clear out my entire blist. That solution works for me, since I haven't had to put any actual players on my blist yet. I'm sure that's not the case for everyone though.

I just wish there was an easy way to empty out the blist like there was in XI. I have to manually click each blist entry and then click a confirm button to remove them.

In the case that your blist isn't filled completely, consider the following macro:
/blist add <r>

Hit that to add the last person who sent you a tell to your blist.

Or right-click on their name in the chat log and select Add To Blacklist. I love that feature.

You don't need to have a blacklist longer than 1 screen long. Anything that's been on there that long is long since banned (or in the rare case of a compromised account, deleted).

I'm also pretty suspicious that the spammers are using 3rd party software to scan and tellspam names. I've noticed that whenever I've gotten one, everyone else has gotten one at pretty much that same second -- they probably have to do that before filters kick in and flat out block them.

On PS3, hit select to access the 'pointer', dpad up to the name, square button, dpad down to "add to blist" ;)

I don't think the spam when you enter a zone is ever going down. I played at off peak hours last week and was shocked when I saw 7 button mashed named archers overlapping standing at a market boards . I was my first time seeing those type of names in town in FF14.

On moogle I haven't seen much lately. 2-3 tells per week. Haven't seen any shout spam in the towns in a while.

2-3 tells per *week*? Oh wow, RMT business in EU probably isn't going well then. I get 2-3 tells everytime I change zones. >.>

But the original suggestion in this thread would help slow down a LOT of tells, I think. I don't really see any downside to it either.

200/200 here as well.

Problem is, I've legitimately added people to my BLIST for a reason (not just for RMT spam). I can't remember their names so I use the BLIST to do this for me. Therefore, going back to delete entries is a bit troublesome. :\

Spam has most certainly picked up lately.

My theory: The "buy $1000 of gil and burn through the game" hardcore types have quit by now (six months into the game), leaving us with only the "actually do the work and play the game" hardcore types. Between that and the bannings, RMT are getting a bit desperate for business.

It's pretty bad on Ultros. I find there's typically 2 active in a city at a time.
