They have the core game for $15 and the CE for $18 (both PC direct download).

So here's a question - if I purchase one of those, but play on the PS3, can I use this to get "free" PC authorization (and the CE bonuses, if I go that route)? Meaning, will this give me 30 free days on my account? Or was that a one-time thing, per account?

From my understanding, I can. But SE systems are generally so convoluted that I wanted to confirm here before I went ahead and made the purchase. I figure someone must have both versions activated...

[EDIT]

If I'm understanding the PSA sticky, this should work... Guess I'll go ahead and try it and see. Will report back, in case anyone else wants to do it.

[EDIT2]

Okay, so I just got the CE upgrade and 30 days of game time, plus the PC access, for $2-3 more than if I had just paid another month of sub.

It DOESN'T seem to count towards veteran game time, though, but that could have a delay to process.

Yup, yup.

I'm 99% sure this ONLY works if you're a PS3 player, though. If you have PC authorization already, it won't let you add another (CE or otherwise).

I paid for the PC client in 1.0 days and never officially purchased 2.0, so it might let me get away with it.

If you still have PC access, I don't think so... Did veteran players need to re-buy the game?

Nope. Only if we wanted to get the CE when we didn't have the 1.0 CE.

I think the PSA sticky up there says something about legacy players and such. Might be worth checking before you risk $20.

I'd do it for the CE items, not the 30 days.

Do they just e-mail you the code or does it show up when you purchase it?

Sad thing is, PSN has a "sale" for the standard edition of FFXIV:ARR right now, as well, but their price is $36. Smiley: lol

You'd save $21 just for getting the keys from Amazon, instead. Smiley: rolleyes

You still need to be able to register it. It's a package deal - all or none. And the cost of a digital upgrade to the CE is still like $20, right? If you aren't sure, I wouldn't try and save 2 bucks on the chance...

They emailed me.

[EDIT]

But I know from past experience that there's a menu on Amazon that shows your activation keys. It's in your orders section, iirc.

The soundtrack is just in the physical CE, to the best of my knowledge.

The digital is four in-game items:

Quote:
The FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Digital Collector's Edition features some amazing exclusive in-game items, including:

Helm of Light: Become one of the fabled warriors of light when you equip this exclusive helmet.

Baby Behemoth Minion: Summon this cute, but ferocious miniature version of Behemoth and watch him roar with excitement as you adventure through Eorzea.

Coeurl Mount: Only the bravest of warriors are able to tame and ride the mighty coeurl. Show off your prowess with this exclusive mount.

Behemoth Barding: Customize your Chocobo with the fearsome Behemoth Chocobo Armour and charge in to battle.

Well, 1 item, a set of barding, a minion, and a mount.

The helm is essentially a DPS alternative to the Moogle Cap (+20% exp sub 10, +1 str, and I THINK +1 int. Maybe not - it's something).

So, really, only get it if you want the other three. I judged it worth an extra $2.

The soundtrack is also only 4 tracks or something like that. Very lackluster.

Veteran status kicks in when you actually make your first payment. Since you start with the 30 day trial, you won't see your vet benefits until that expires and you start to get charged. The good thing is that since you pay up front, your rewards are granted immediately.

IIRC Amazon handleds codes differently. I know for certain that their pre-order codes for early access were handled differently, but I'm not certain about just normal game purchases. My best guess is that there is either a button or link on Amazon that becomes active/available after purchase. You follow that link to get the code and the code is registered through MogStation.

@Catwho

Upgrading from 1.0 or ARR standard works. If you register a CE code on a SE(standard edition) account, your account just gets upgraded to CE. Registering a CE code to a standard account that is already active just promotes the account. If you do upgrade, just make sure that you register it to the active account.
Lots of new players who started in early access ended up registering their full version codes to completely separate service accounts.

I just bought a GTX 650 SC a digital download of FF14 comes with it. I doubt they'll let me add it on to my current account.

The 30 days? No, that only gets added to new accounts. If you had a SE and wanted a CE you can use the registration code to upgrade your old account though. It'll get you the in-game items.

Thanks for the heads up. Actually I went searching on itunes and found most of the songs I was looking for. I guess I didn't realize how much of the 1.x music was used in 2.0

That's not the soundtrack that comes with the CE.

Edit:
Here's a link to a description of the soundtrack that comes with the CE.

6 tracks, just under 51 minutes.
