people say if this game had something like HNM camping theyd quit. Well what if it was done like this.... the main thing that was wrong with HNMs is some LSs botted and pretty much had a monopoly on HNMs and those HNMs dropped items you could ONLY get from them. So good luck getting he abjuration from Nidhogg for example if you werent in a uber l33t botting HNMLS. So the main issue (i see) with HNMs was it mad it so that some people would NEVER get any of those items.

So the way FFXIV could implement them and solve that problem I think is as such. Make it so that HNMs and NMs drop the exact same things you'd get from lets say CT, Coil and or EX primals without the pone week lockout, so ppl who dont care for HNMs could still get the items 100% guaranteed just at a much slower once a week pace, while ppl who want hnms could get those items faster (with some skill AND luck.. i.e its not guaranteed to drop and even if it did youre not guaranteed to get it OR win lot on said drop) without having to wait, that would also give them a reason to play EVERY day as opposed to logging in monday, doing, coil, CT, dailies and capping myth then having no reason to log back on for the rest of the week. I dont see why that wouldnt make everyone happy (unless now ppl would whine that other ppl gets stuff faster than them lol to which I say.... soooo getting stuff faster isnt a problem as long as i can get it PERIOD... I mean heck Ive been playing since launch and all I have is relic +1 and DL... soo should I be mad at thos in il90 or 80 already? ummm no because unlike certain HNMs and abj in FFXI at least with il80 and 90 I know that gear will always be there for me the reach out and grab whenever I decide to do so).

Just to play Devil's Advocate - What is to prevent Free Companies and RMT from botting to claim the NMs if they were introduced? The drop rate on items in XI wasn't very high but before the Rare/Ex Change to Leaping Lizzy and The Valkurm Emperor there was always bots claiming them. Or will the items dropped from the NMs in your suggestion be automatically bound on pick up?

I'd rather run the dungeon personally, but this is a good alternative if you're a fan of waiting hours on end for absolutely no gain because you're being smoked on claims but lolbots....

Which was only a problem in FFXI because the claim would lock you out if you weren't in the same party..

But in FFXIV, it's possible to get credit for things if you do enough damage, as long as the desired reward wasn't tied to the claim. (I understand ordinary drops and gil are tied to the claim, but xp, quest items, and fate rewards are not). And in fact, that's pretty much how Odin, who is the closest thing to an HNM in FFXIV, works right now.

Yeah, I think looking at Behemoth and Odin are going to be the best analogy to HNMs in FF XIV. I can't see them implementing anything like the XI version here.

Also, what happened to wandering primals????

considering coil and primal and CT gear as it is now cant be traded or sold a FC would have no reason to keep a monopoly on said HNMs once they got everyone in their FC what they wanted

I wouldn't mind seeing pop mobs like in sky and sea implemented into FFXIV
#10 Jan 21 2014 at 2:30 PM Rating: Good
No more timed mobs on a long cycle, though.

I like this cycle:
- Trash mob drops rare/ex pop item for low level NM
- Low level NM has a chance of dropping mediocre gear and a higher level NM pop
- Higher level NM pop drops better gear and a shot at a HQ NM level pop
- HQ NM pop drops best gear

No timers, just effort.

I think they could implement HNMs into treasure maps. That system seems a bit lackluster to me, but it could definitely get a boost if they added more rare maps for HM mobs. Attaching it to map triggers would allow SE to control the flow of gear a bit more and keep areas from turning into claim war drama zones. The balance of shortened spawn timers and triggers seemed to work well for everyone in XI during abyssea.

Even if everyone in your group has all the drops, you can still find one reason to monopolize HNM spawns: gil. Got a bot that can outclaim everyone else? Claim it even if no one in your group needs the drop, and then sell an open spot in the alliance to an outsider who wants the drop.

The same thing happened in XI with R/Ex drops. Just because you can't sell the item itself doesn't mean you can't sell the ability to lot on the drop.

You could make it so that you can't invite with the loot window up... but still too many ways to manipulate it.

FCs in that circumstance will lock down for exclusivity reasons or sell loot rights if HNMs are in the game. It's been done before and it would happen again.

There's already FC's trying to manipulate primal HM/EM's in their benefit... so it's already happening in this game too

They can't make it like XI because there is already an XI on the market. You can still play it Smiley: nod

As long as this content is instanced, the implication of benefit at the detriment of another, like XI's (H)NMs were, isn't really an issue. If someone is willing to buy a clear or drop and someone is willing to sell them that opportunity, there's no rule being broken. I can get how some might feel it breaks the spirit of the game or leads to n00bz getting gear they "don't deserve," but there comes a point where minding one's own business needs to come into play.

But as has been otherwise noted, there are people who would literally attack and attempt to choke off the supply if only for personal profit. There's also a part of me that questions how deeply Duo really got into XI's endgame scene at the HNM peak if he'd never encountered someone or a group literally letting drops rot to maintain exclusivity and/or a price tag. Fundamentally, I do not support the return of (H)NMs as they existed in XI, as they encourage bad behavior on so many levels from players when that feeling of need is involved. Trying to paint over this with the allure of CT drops and the like also strikes me as an attempt to mask the issues those events have with their loot acquisition.

So, this leaves me more to question possible intent. Is this more a case of wanting more epic, dangerous mobs out in the open world? I do feel they have a place within FATEs or even quests like the Chim/Hydra stages of relics. The trick is for SE to design these better and to better accommodate for participation or lack thereof without being basic roadblocks like a max level aggro mob in a lowbie area. The next question would be if it's more about loot. It's no secret I champion alternate progression paths to rival "raiding" or at least as how XIV depicts such. This means better crafting, better GC rewards, upping appeal for gathering, building on the materia system, and then some. Exclusive mobs, thus exclusive loot, simply do not fit nicely into this scheme. Genuine effort should be translating to rewards for us players and not happening to be on at 3am when nobody else was around to find a rare mob. The twisted delusion SE had with XI that people just wander all willy nilly to find things and not camp things is just that.

the intent is simple actually... its to get those who are at a point where they only can play one day a week (because they get everything done n the first day and now are locked out for a week) to have a reason to log on and play EVERYDAY and better their character or at least try to. with an F2P game i dont mind stuff like that because well you get what you pay for and its free soooo cant really say anything, also its probably a ploy to get ppl to do microtransactions to pay to unlock said content again now instead of having to wait a week (i.e replay badges in dcuo). Because when Im paying monthly for something I feel as if if im not playing/using it daily im not getting my monies worth. and well is FFXIV worth 15 dollars for 4 days? (i.e logging in and doing stuff in one day every week for one month).

So if not HNMs then at least either do away with lockout period (though i know the counter to that will be "then you do and get everything you want in a week and have no reason to log back in for the next 2-3 months when they release a new update, how is that any better than logging in one day a week?") OR add a LOT more content with weekly lockouts, so much more content t hat it would take even the hardcore at LEAST 4-5 days to complete everything that way theyre only spending 2-3 days not playing instead of 6. Id be ok with that too.

You pretty much solved the problem with your last statement. All that needs to be done is adding more content that cannot be completed within one day.

Right now, 1-5 takes around an hour and 10 minutes with no wipes. Adding the next set of coils will increase the time you spend raiding quite a bit for the first month or two because you are learning new content. After that, it will probably get done within an hour as well. There isn't much that can speed up coil 1-5 even with additions to gear.

The problem is, they plan to implement coil additions every other patch and not every patch. That means we will be in situations like this every other patch where CT drops mediocre gear that your mains don't need, leaving you with nothing to do but primals. Primals will keep you busy for ~2 weeks or so until you farm the crap out of them and they become useless as well.

I would hope that there are plans in the works for adding another endgame dungeon like coil or that an expansion will be announced which will add that for us. If coil turn 6+ doesn't take a substantial amount of time to complete, we'll just be back to where we are in another 4 months or so.

You already have this... They're called FATE battles...

Seriously guys. Bad idea, bad implementation, just let SE make an extra FATE or two and give extra rewards from there.

If we had a huge open zone-less world with places people rarely travel, sure! This would be great. Right now all the maps are merely linear paths with no where else to go, few places for it to spawn, not preferable.

I have been thinking of a NM/HNM system for quite awhile in this game. As much as it was a treat or torture in XI, I actually miss the system. However, I was thinking maybe they could bring back the system but implement them in dungeons.

For instance, have a special NM/HNM or three that appear in each dungeon that randomly spawn. Jagged-ear Jack has a chance to appear in Tam-Tara, or Serket appearing in Copper Bell Mines (HM). Each bringing in a unique item either equal to the dungeon's level or one amazingly high. The spawn rate doesn't have to be ridiculously low but the randomness is what makes it challenging. This could add replay value to the dungeons. I would compare this to the Leves. A warrant would randomly appear during a Leve task.

If doesn't work, then they could just make a Nyzul type instance where you have to progress floors and fight FATE type NMs or newer ones for rare equipment.

I think this is a brilliant idea. It would give you a reason to 'explore' dungeosn, and even more reason to do dungeons over and over.

Just a great idea man... kudos.

It could be like the "wanted target" that appears during your leves. You're moving along in the dungeon and suddenly "A wanted target has appeared in the dungeon."

And if it spawns in a point that a group has already cleared, it might give you a bit of an incentive to backtrack.

Might disrupt speed runs, though, where you just ignore half the mobs and hit the elevator. Smiley: laugh

This is exactly what popped into my head when I read his post too. And if the coffer the NM dropped had tomes in it, you can bet people would go back for it. It could be a random reward chest, just like the treasure maps, but with a better gear drop of course.

Oh that'll be cool. I always feel these dungeons to be interesting in landscape design but I feel that we never really make use of some of the rooms. I think the back-tracking idea would be an excellent motive.
