Good luck, seems Zam is trying to get their users banned.

Very interesting. I suppose the first rule of fight club... you know?

We were told that FFXIVAPP was allowed by SE themselves. I'll forward this on to Zam's president and have him get in touch with our SE rep.

It could be the GM doesn't know about it and is following up on what he was going by. Guess we will find out as time goes on. March is around the corner for the 6 month in which we will be able to develop add on for the game.

I'm also curious as to why the GM's name is hidden as well. Would be handy to know who it was when we talk to our contact. I've let Micajah know and he's looking into it.
#8 Jan 20 2014 at 1:29 PM Rating: Default
Was the parser part of it from the start?
#9 Jan 20 2014 at 1:34 PM Rating: Excellent
Yes, I believe Icehunter even sent the source code to SquareEnix. I'll let him comment on that though.

Micajah has emailed our rep, I will update everyone when we hear more.

I thought in general that SE was more open to allowing 3rd party application development in general with XIV than they were with XI. Am I mistaken?
#11 Jan 20 2014 at 1:50 PM Rating: Excellent
When I spoke with Yoshi in San Francisco he made it sound like there would be a suite of tools they would release for Windows to build things with, but I have a feeling it would be more like WoW where it's LUA based elements on the screen. Whether or not they use LUA I don't know, I know the plan was for them to have somethign 6 months after the launch, so hopefully we'll hear about it soon.

XI Windower also switched a LUA based system for most of its plug ins some time back. Windower was always a lot more gray than XIV-App was supposed to be, though.

I don't use XIV-App because I'm a healer, but I was planning on it if I ever brought up a DPS job. The parsers in XI are invaluable for judging your weak spots.

It's helpful when running dungeons too. I can tell when we start HM HM whether or not we'll win based on what the DPS is looking like for the first boss fight Smiley: laugh

Yeah they've had the source for quite some time as I used it in an interview as well and discussed it a bit during a meetup with them. As Wint said any updates will be posted though.

Actually, I wish I had had it running when I got sorted into a story mode Garuda over the weekend. I suspect we just didn't have the DPS - we had a SMN and a BLM in those slots - because we could not get the feathers down fast enough to keep our rocks intact enough to survive Aerial Blast.

I didn't think of Garuda as a DPS check, but in that respect she really is.

Casters have it rough, unfortunately. If the feathers move past a certain arc, the spell will fail to cast. If they move behind a rock out of visual range, you'll fail to cast. So the casters would have to move into line-of-sight, and be unable to cast while doing so. So it's a bit of a slog. It doesn't help that summoner's don't have very good instant AoE damage, either, and if it's the Summoner's first time, they won't have Garuda to help.

It would have to be up to the BLM to anticipate the feathers spawning around Garuda (she usually does it shortly after her teleport-blast move) with some well-timed AoE so it hits them all from the start, that would probably help a ton. I imagine the phase where the feathers spawn at the edges of the battlefield would be tough with two casters, though.

Um, LNC/DRG doesn't have much in the way of AoE. One decent attack on a long timer and one kind of crappy attack that can be spammed at high TP cost, and a semi-decent multiple targets in a straight line (not really the same thing as a cone) attack. Being able to cover a decent distance with two of the of the three jump attacks is a good bonus though, you can get over to those feathers quickly and AoE them as long as you have the TP to do it. It's not really the greatest strategy to deal with them, but it's all DRG gets.

I use /facetarget macros in all my spells. So If a mob is moving, I spam the key so my char always turns to target. I know people have a penchant for complaining, yet I've found so many tools the game has to offer when making your main class strong. Simply using that macro, I found that I'm able to get 3 spells off instead of 1 when bosses who move to the middle are moved back to tank spot. I get those spells of before their next attack.

If you stand in the center of Garuda rocks the feathers will never go behind them. They can go to the side yes, but never behind. So standing in the center works well.

DRG AoE is actually quite good. Save dps buff(s) for AoE phases to maximise your DfD, RoT and DS. It doesn't shine as much in garuda as it does in say, T4, since feathers are rarely grouped up nicely.

Need to time tri-disaster so that it hits when all of the feathers spawn in (can be a pain but is doable). They wont move unless someone hits them. The feathers will "explode" long before the bind wears off. Worst case, the SMN misses some but should greatly reduce the feathers needed to be destroyed.

You'll be doing the same in Garuda Ex as well. Best to learn now while the margin for error is large.

Sit in the middle and wait for the plumes to go to their targets or just spam blizzard 2 in the middle and hit a few while you wait. Transpose and aim fire 2 well. Swiftcast a fire 2 onto plumes that are clumped up but were not your initial target. Scathe any remaining ones that are below <30% HP.

You can also rotate your position while casting to keep track of moving targets so that your cast isn't interrupted. Or, like mentioned above, use a macro that constantly follows your target while you cast.

As for FF14 App...we'll just see what SE does. This might have been the result of an overzealous GM or a GM using the excuse of mentioning App to infract the player who had done something else. I believe, on the official forums, the story goes something like this:

-Player A using App runs a parse in a random dungeon
-Player A using App insults Player B for doing poor DPS (mentioning some numbers)
-Player B reports Player A for mentioning App (when he really wanted to just infract him for harassment)
-GM looks over logs but can't infract Player A because he wasn't really harassing anyone
-GM looks in the logs to see if Player A had recommended App to another player
-GM uses this as a basis to infract player A

And then the events in the screenshot transpire.

Preludes: I don't think ZAM is trying to get their users banned as the above indicates. Maybe pick another hyperbole and go with that next time. How petty can you be?

I dont use it for the same reason i never used Windower. As "harmless" as it might be;

A) I dont trust other people to not implement key loggers or anything of the sort once the popularity has made just about everyone use it. Human nature tells us people will do anything to make money or obtain things they want to get.

B) If SE intended for these things to be used, or even allows for these things, they would have implemented it in the first place.

but most importantly C) There's absolutely no need to have this. And i feel no one should have this. It just makes people overly **** about damage done, damage taken or even healing. Especially now in this age of "one mistake and vote-kicked".

As of right now all we know is that using this can get you banned, yet the program is still there to download (they didn't remove the download link and advise users not to use it until this is clarified did they?). Will Zam get their users unbanned or take responsibility if they do? I don't think they will.

If I'm not mistaken, ZAM has gotten the ok to use this from their SE Rep hence it's being available here. If it turns out that this is against the TOS, I would imagine they would take down any reference to it. As with any software you use it at your own risk no matter where it came from, just wait until they allow us to create addons for the game.

A parser is nothing more than a tool that when used correctly can help improve your or friends play style. This guy felt it was ok to be-little the monk because his dps was lower and the monk was starting **** before hand. If anything this person was warned for being an ******** and picking on the monk. What they should of done was kick the monk as soon as it started to happen.
