For those who never completed A Shantotto Ascension in FFXI: The giant Shantotto is XI canon. During ASA, Shantotto casts an experimental spell that goes awry. She is replaced with Domino Shantotto, who decides to make herself empress and take over the world. You later meet a shy sweet Shantotto in a white outfit, whom you suspect is what little is inside of Shantotto that is good, leaving Domino as the remaining evil. Good and evil Shantotto! Her spell split her in half - oh wait, the Good Shanotto and Domino Shantotto have joined forces to take over the world. Uh.

Then Normal Shanotto comes along and explains that neither of them are her - she got knocked to another dimension temporarily and these two got sucked in from that dimension. Good Shanotto is defeated quickly, but Normal Shantotto and Domino Shantotto blow up to giant size and have an epic battle in Yhoater Jungle. Normal Shantotto wins. And the world was saved... for now.

Thus, blowing herself up to giant proportions is a skill that Shantotto has in FFXI canon!

I absolutely love these little events. I can't wait for the XIII even to replay in the next few weeks. I didn't get a chance to get all the Lightning items. Throwbacks to XI, though? God I love this stuff.

I kind of like how they are taking characters that are able to leap through other worlds and incorporating them into the storyline to make at least some sense. I can't wait for the Shantotto one. :) By far my favorite character in any FF game.

In that sense, maybe someday we will get to fight Lavos. /squee!

I believe in ff8 you transcend dimension to fight ultimicia. So in theory we could see Rinoa being the last sorceress in that game.

Both Cloud and Aeris make an appearance in the original Final Fantasy Tactics, so I don't see why they couldnt show up for a FATE or two.

I do hope for more tie-ins from XI in the future. The story does indicate the adventurers are not from Eorzea so it is possible to have some more NPCs leak in from Vana'diel as well....As long as it makes sense and it's not permanent. I still want XIV to be it's own game and not just a remake of XI.

I always figured that the Warriors of Light / adventurers were from another continent. Eorzea is just one of presumably several continents on the world of Hydelaen.

So what? You start the quest and then go do the FATEs? This will be the first seasonal event I participate in and I still have quests I haven't done in a lot of zones.

Really it is like all other events so far and is just another fate..I saw pictures of these a week ago and thought maybe it was like a dungeon battle similiar to a bcnm and thought oh cool. UGG where is the imagination!

Is this how every event is going to be? A fate!!!!!!!!!

I used to hate how in FFXI every year the same holiday event was the same every year... I mean they had a year to think of something different.. At least each holiday had a different event and its own mini game. After 7 years the whole egg letter thing gets boring for a egg helm.

I hope this is because the game is new and they come out with some cool holiday events that are different from each other.

Pretty much. You also get a silly hat for the Dragon Quest one.

I think the hat is from a bandit in one of the Dragon Warrior games you meet him at a cave entrance. He let you use the Puff Puff room but he turns the light out in the room every time you go in. The last time you go in the room the light comes on during Puff Puff and your making out with those smiley slimes from the game. I think your HP increased everytime you paid for Puff Puff so it was worth finding that hidden cave.

Incidentally, I'm wearing the silly hat on my CNJ because it had better stats than anything I had in my Armory Chest at that level. Though I do look kind of goofy running around in what essentially amounts to a yellow Viking helmet.

I love how some of the toy items have decent stats. I'm not the only one I've seen in level 15 dungeons wearing the Lightning gear set.

They had it last fall too.

Yeah they had it last fall to kick off the JP release of FFXIII-3, and they are re-running it for the NA release.
