[Achieved] Getting to 50Follow

#1 Jan 16 2014 at 10:41 AM Rating: Excellent
EDIT: Congratulations to me, I'm now a lvl50 PLD :D

Hey community!

I have a question for you guys that's pestered me for the past day. I've made it to 45, I still have story quests, but I've been told that story questing your way to 50 is unrealistic by some folks in my FC. I've been told that with a good solid day of FATE grinding I can make it to 50 in a day or two. I figure it wouldn't hurt to grind a bit to close the level gap (I had to grind my way to Garuda for half a level the other day) but I'm finding that people in Mor Dhona don't FATE grind as they're already lvl50. Where are/did you guys going/go to do your grind, or did you not grind? What was the experience like?

Thanks in advance!

It's true that there is a big gap in the story line missions between level 46 and level 49. People used to FATE grind a lot more at those levels before this last patch (2.1), which buffed dungeon exp and battle leves. You could try checking the Party Finder to see if anyone has a FATE group up for your level range. You could also try the area around Camp Bluefrog in Northern Thanalan.

If you're a tank or healer, you could just solo participate in FATEs around Silvertear (East of Mor Dhona) while being queued up for Dzamael Darkhold and/or Aurum Vale.

Do whichever daily roulettes are available to you every day. You get a nice chunk of experience, even from the low level one. You can FATE grind in Northern Thanalan on most days, or you can grind it out in dungeons.

A fantastic alternative is simply Camp Dragonhead.

I've taken two jobs from 35 to 50 there without a hitch.

Far more frequent FATE appearances than in Northern Thanalan. And the level diffirence really doesnt reflect in the rewards at all, since a lot of them are mid-boss fights you can get an easy 30k on each time. A good 3-4 battles are like that, the rest are just trash fights you cut through for an easy 10k each time.

I personally never liked Northern Thanalan, and even less so now that they completely gimped Dark Devices. Took ages for a FATE to even start, and there's so many people cutting through there that they have a terribly short duration and terrible rewards.

This is how I bridged between 45-50 on WHM. Duty Roulette can get you 100-150K exp for doing a baby dungeon. Do one of those a day, and then supplement with fates and other quests as they appear.

I didn't realize DR gave you so much exp. I've only used it once or twice and I don't remember what the exp was like. Thanks for that tip. That'll save some time. I'm assuming the bonus is once per day, then?

Also, while this may seem parsee and whatnot, what is the exp/hr to DR/dungeons/etc in comparison to FATE grinding? It sounds like it's been raised to be on par with FATE grinding whereas before it was hardly worth the effort. Is this the case since 2.1's release?

Well, duty Roulette can only be done once a day, but it gives an exp bonus on the exp gained that dungeon, from what i've seen leveling up my Dragoon it's usually around +100.000 EXP if you did the entire dungeon. About 27.000 exp for a Roulette Guildhest. Each individual monster gives a little over 700 exp each too. A decent dungeon has you fight a good 50 monsters quite easily, so that alone is about 35.000 exp for half an hour work.

Is it good? Yes. It's finally an alternative to endless FATE grinding. I dont particularly feel it's better than FATE grinding, but no one said you couldnt do a little of both at times.

Roulette a day, Guildhest roulette on top of that, do a couple fates, do another dungeon, and you're easily a quick 300.000 exp into your level.

I very recently leveled black mage to 50, and even taking it at a leisurely pace I easily hit a lvl a day using low roulette/guildhest roulette/beastmen dailies. A low roulette dungeon at your level should net you about 250-300k xp (including bonus), guildhest will be about 30k xp, and doing your quota of beastman quests will be another 60k. If you grind some fates while queuing, the xp flows pretty fast since 2.1 landed :-)

Clearing out the first room in Aurum Vale and leaving appears to be a valid strategy to exp as well. If you enter a dungeon with a full group of 4, you can leave without the lock-out penalty. I had some friends in my LS doing it recently, and I even saw a Party Finder group last night trying to do the same thing.

You have to be level 47 to enter Aurum Vale, so it wouldn't be an option for the OP for a couple of levels.

I saw a PF for AV room 1 farming and couldn't figure out why. Now I know :)

Timewise, IF (and ONLY if) there is a FATE grind party going by people who understand what they're doing, FATE grinding is still faster. By this, I mean having people check for the FATEs that require triggering instead of sitting in one spot waiting for them to show up on the map.

However, so many people are so sick of FATE grinding (or don't need it anymore) that the chances of you having the opportunity of getting such a group together is pretty slim. You're going to need people who want to spiritbind ilvl 45+ items.

Sweet deal, I'm going to try AV grinding right now. I made it to lvl48 with FATEs and got through 47 using the "One of our Naturalists is Missing" leve in Mor Dhona (only took a half an hour or so to tear through one whole level!)

I'll be sure to post my results.

Ding! Didn't end up running AV at all as I couldn't find a party running like that, but made it to 50 with those Leves and some last-minute FATEs.
