Class quest party?Follow

#1 Jan 10 2014 at 10:49 AM Rating: Decent
Hello, new to the game and forums. I just got to lvl 30 last night with my archer. I was wondering if you can be in a party for the lvl 30 quest. I tried it once last night(very late) with no success. My friend offered to help, is that possible? I'd ask my FC but I am currently at work.
Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately you can't, they're for you to do solo. But you can retry if you wipe and it will give you a buff to help. Also you can level up a bit and do it a little after the level you first get the quest as it caps you at 4 levels above the quest level. You could post up which quest you were trying and maybe people can give you some tips to help?

Can't use a chocobo either, I've found out.

The trick with most of those quests is to make sure you follow the NPC instructions. They'll tell you which enemies to kill first, which other NPC to stand next to, etc. If you just go off and start killing you'll probably not make it.

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess I'll just have to do a little more research on strats.

Even with the buff some of them can be really hard. I suggest trying no more than twice before you just go ahead and level up to max for the quest. Food and protect can help in a few instances as well as self heal abilities/spells from other classes.

Pretty much this. If the NPC says "Take care of those reinforcements or we won't last long!" you should probably listen.

I just did the level 30 ARC quest today. There are 2 solo duties in the South Shroud to complete this quest. It does help to have your gear updated as much as possible: level 28 bow, level 30 armor, level 28-29 accessories.

Assuming you are planning to unlock BRD, I recommend you get your PGL to 15 before attempting these duties since the cross-class abilites of Featherfoot and Second Wind are very helpful from a defensive standpoint. I also had hi-potions on my hotbar. Hi-potions and Second Wind are really for emergencies only. The re-use time on both is too long for you to rely on.

There is at least one healer in each duty. Kill them as soon as they appear; switching from your current target if necessary. BLM types are second since you cannot really evade Thunder. There are no BLMs in the first duty, but there is a mob called a "Hag" in the second.

If it's not healer, and it's not attacking you, let the NPCs deal with it. Other than that... dodge, dodge, dodge. You will pretty much always be moving.

EDIT: Change abbreviation :P

PUG is Pick Up Group, PGL is Pugilist. Not trying to be an ***, but it helps the search engines when we use the correct abbreviations ^.^ As to ARC quests I don't remember that were super difficult, well other than one I created a thread in the class forums here for. The other classes have had a few that got me though and required leveling even after looking at strats. Mostly because a lot of the guides were written prior to any major changes in stats or class skills.

I've found that the default strategy in almost any fight in FFXIV is "take out the adds first."

Snipe at the boss as you have a chance, and keep NPCs alive if you have the abilities, but the priority is always to take out the adds and weak stuff before the boss. There's often more adds to come, and if you don't have the first wave clear by the time the second or third group show up, you're going to lose. And unlike FFXI, killing the boss doesn't always end the fight and make the adds vanish, so you'll have to deal with them anyway.
