Duty Roulette is making me a better playerFollow

I was always a bit more talkative than average, so that's not what it is.

Duty Roulette is forcing me to adapt as a white mage. I'm a coward so I would wait until someone in my FC was free - preferably our mack truck tank (friend I've had since high school, to boot) - or at least someone who could explain how the fight went over vent or FC chat ahead of time.

Since I started doing DR, I don't get that luxury. I get tossed into fights and dungeons I swore I'd never do again. I was thrown into an Ifrit fight last night, and we won on the second try (DPS didn't go after the nail fast enough the first time. They learned fast.)

I think this - the repetition of dungeons - is exactly what SE intended us to do. In other games like XI, you learned to play your role in the game in exp parties. In XIV, it's all guildhests and dungeons.

TL;DR - Practice makes perfect, and playing with other people improves that perfection.

Agreed, I've run Copperbell Hard and Haukke Manor Hard for my first try via DR, and it feels empowering. Some things I'd still rather have a FC group for, but I'm a little more adventurous now.

DR will sort you into any dungeon you've completed or you qualify for - I didn't realize that til I did a guildhest that I had unlocked but never completed the normal way before.

I've done tons of guildhests now as a result. Not even because I wanted a bonus but that it's such a convenient way to run them.

I'm sort of the same way, where I would rather wait for someone I know to help me run though new content. I got Copperbell HM last night through the DR which I hadn't done yet, it was a lot of fun working though it, luckily I got stuck with some pretty nice people, over all we wiped around 4-5 times and no one got upset about it.

That's the other thing, it seems people are a lot nicer now, but maybe that's just been my own luck, Also its nice not having to run WP/AK over and over again, which maybe just put everyone in a better mood.

So far using Duty roulette, I have found people to generally be very nice, even a Cm which was a lolcakes (we wiped twice at the second boss) awful run , didn't collapse into the usual finger pointing, nasty comments, we just got on with it.

Perhaps I'm just being lucky, but maybe the combination of not running the same boring dungeon over and over, less waiting between runs, and the lure of the gilded magitek walker are improving peoples attitude and behaviour.

Dungeon talk overall has been *a bit* better.

I don't run lower level dungeons because I just don't remember a lot of the mechanics however easy they may be. Also I hate not having access to a majority of my skills/rotation. Plus I don't really need the philo tomes anymore.

I'm just waiting to run the lower level dungeons with my lvl 22 MRD and I think that will be really good practice. Tanking is fun, but it really stresses me out.

Regardless of the intention, I think the DR is a great thing and as a DD the quick queues mean I can hop on for an hour or less and get some tomes, a bit of Gil and progress. A boon to casuals for sure.

I leveled PLD first, and I've played a tank in MMOs for a long time, so I've always been sort of fearless. I find myself feeling out the healer for the first 1/4 of the dungeon, and then going as hard as I can after that. It's much easier to do this in the low level duty roulette because it feels like you have a much larger margin of error.

Duty Roulette chat is awesome. Crystal Tower chat, not so much. Seems like all the dbags like to congregate in the raids.

It's because Crystal Tower, for better or worse, is going to be the source of most of people's Myth tomes (unless they get super lucky for the week) both because of how easy it is to get in to and because of the other need of trying to get the weekly ilvl 80 gear allotment. I know people also view it as the most effective way to get tomes if the alliance is efficient enough as well, but a lot of that will depend on people's tolerance levels. For example, if people are throwing fits about where the bone dragon is tanked while completely ignoring where the adds are killed on the first boss, then that's a very bad portent.

God, hell no for me on that one

Myth tomes are so easy to cap now even with 450 limit. Just doing your lv50 4-man roulette every day by itself will most likely cap you without making any other effort

I filtered out the alliance chat as CT is pretty straight forward. It became a much nicer experience after that.

After weeks of speedruns, it's amazing how fast something so new like CT can bore you to death... With the volume maxed (yes, the music is epic) I can barely get through it without getting caught in AoE because I'm chatting with FC or in alliance/party/wherever. The worst part is unless it's meteor or acheron, no AoE will really harm you :-/, even the biggest PvE noobs have ilvls so high you can't really do anything wrong.

At the same time, I really like the setup and idea behind it, I just wish they made it harder and switch up the play a bit... Like T2 Coil, so many different strategies to play that turn. CT is already auto-pilotted...

Agreed. For those who enjoy leveling up secondary classes, the Roulette has brought new life to those old dungeons (many of which I had only ever one once before.)

Also, helping new players is fun. But what is really interesting is when a new player, on their very first class, is able to teach me the mechanics because they just ran the dungeon a minute ago. Sweet. Learning new things all the time.

I second that.. I think I posted that somewhere else too... Kind of wondering why this game seems to attract so many of those dbags... Lots of very nice people too but This game sometimes reminds me of playing halo or COD sometimes where there are so many kids who dont know how too act. Some 10 year old using the F word every two minutes or telling me he is doing my mother and his nads have not even dropped yet! LOL .. I am not saying all kids act like this either..

No reason for so much trash talk anyway I am on your team buddy.

Used the duty finder to get AK last night and tanked it for the first time. Also tanked ifrit and garuda hm for the first time (and chimera and hydra) trying to get that relic. It is fun explaining to the new folks how the mechanics work, and then playing them from an entirely different perspective. Tank is damn challenging on Garuda HM, and I dont know how many times the party wiped on that AK run until we finally beat it. As we walked into the final boss room I realized that all three of the other folks had just got the mapping achievement for AK. Not bad.

And I love queueing up my scholar for low level duty roulette. Healing low level stuff on scholar works a little like this.
1. Cast Eos.
2. DPS and DOT.
3. Cast Psysick on the tank on bosses.

The faerie does the work =D I heard someone say to macro Embrace into every one of your DPS skills so Eos is always doing it and then you never have to heal... I may try that.
