The first detailed Ex Garuda guide that isn't a video. I haven't attempted it yet myself, don't really feel the need to. Seems simple enough though...

Wiki Guide

Hey thanks. This is a great starting point for learning the fight!

The fight is extremely simple once your tanks are on the same page. It might be even easier than hard mode once you know the fight.

Thanks for this. I do much better with charts than I do videos when it comes to memorizing things. I like to watch the vids once or twice and then refer to the chart until I can memorize the fight completely, this was one I didn't have in my list until now... so seriously, every one I PT with will thank you that I found this ^.~

Few things I'd debate and they depend on party composition.

If you have two healers and one is a WHM, suggest that the WHM uses cleric stance for the first phase. Damage taken by the tank is very low during this phase and the only other damage comes from friction. One healer is enough for this but holy spam helps kill the razor plumes quickly.

Killing Suparna first can be beneficial, despite Garuda's HP gain, with tanks that do not know how to manage CDs properly and a party full of ranged only. Sine you are all ranged, you do not need to worry about melee being double whicked. If your tank has a moderate amount of HP and knows how to time CDs, this won't be necessary though. However, even if you do have a melee or two, a viable strategy can be have the melee and OT go to Chirada while the ranged focus down Suparna. This works well with 3 ranged and 1 melee. So you basically split DPS. Another tactic is to just have a melee-heavy party separate Chiarda while the OT takes Suparna. You form a triangle and just burn her like this. It's effective but very uncommon outside of JP datacenters.

You need to stress the fact that avoiding windburn from the rain she casts is crucial. I see no mention of it in your phase 3 section. You will quickly OOM your healer if they have to cast leeches/esuna on 6 different party members that were hit by it.

Make mention of what actually happens in phase 4. On this part, you should always kill Chirada first since the melee are going to be double whicked if they stack with the MT and Garuda/Suparna.

I would mention that the OT probably needs to be very watchful of who the spiny goes to. It's OK if it goes to a healer or DPS just as long as he is watching the stacks. Provoking it as soon as you see 2 stacks on the member with spiny is key.

It's worth mentioning that every time Garuda disappears after phase 1, she will use rain that causes windburn and this usually occurs right where you kill the sipny plume for the shield. So telling everyone to back off for a while is a good idea.

Another important note as healer: the first reckoning in phase 2 should do little to no damage if 7-9 pillars are up. If not, the healers will need to put up some AoE heals but nothing too big. The aerial blast in phase 3 does no damage as well if everyone is inside the dome. If not, you risk dying (but may survive). The final AoE does the most AoE damage where the healers will need to expend the most mana/cooldowns. If the spiny is killed early in any of these phases, tank LB2/3 can sometimes be used to avoid death.

Overall, a very good guide with the basic template of the fight.

What ever happened to this wiki?

I was looking for this online today because I remembered seeing it on ZAM and Reddit a while back after 2.1 came out...

And now it's gone. Did anyone see it before? Is there another copy of it out on the internet somewhere?
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

Chances are I won't be on at that time, but if I am I will definitely say something in FC chat, I know what to do but I never seem to find a group that can beat it.

I have never beat Garuda EX outside of my FC. It seems like the slightest confusion about positioning is enough to drag the entire team down very quickly. Have anyone beat Garuda EX in duty finder? All the attempts I did never made it past the sisters and tornado phase.

Yes a few times. I find the markers they implemented with the last patch to be very useful in helping new players figure out where to go. What generally happens is the melee get cleaved by wicked wheel. Causes a lot of people to leave.

Many people do not seem to use the triangle tank strategy that so many JP data centers use. Having the melee tank Chirada, OT tank Suparna, and MT take Garuda. Works very well.

However, I think this is an uncommon strat. outside of the JP data centers.

That is an interesting idea. Many times the Garuda EX run will fail when the tank eats 2x Wicked Wheel (due to tanking both Garuda and Suparna) unexpectedly, or without any active CDs. (Apparently) It can be tough for the tank to estimate when the next WW will come and also tough for the healers to keep up with that much damage output all at once. It might be worth looking into having the DPS tank Chirada and spread out some of the WW damage.

We might want to consider trying this out a couple times if our FC gets a run going tonight. I usually come SMN and could even try to have Titan tank Chirada... not sure if that would hurt the overall DPS too much to the point where we fail the DPS check though... Will have to test it and see. If our other DPS are well geared I can't see it making that much of a difference.

Form experience, I tell the WHM to keep Stoneskin up on the tank during tornados. It's a winning strategy.

WW can be unpredictable depending on DPS (iirc?). However, if your DPS is pretty standardized, the MT shouldn't have an issue lining up cooldowns for it.

One thing I forgot to mention with the triangle strategy: make sure everyone stacks when killing Chirada. She puts a little orange reticule above the tank's head (in this case, it probably would be a melee DPS). I think it's called downburst or something like that. It's AoE damage but spread out amongst targets in the vicinity. So if the current target that has threat (and gets the orange reticule above the head) stacks on the rest, you shouldn't have an issue.

When I OT Chirada, I usually take around 2k-2.5k damage from downburst/(downpour? something down!). Let's call it orange reticule thingy.

yeah it's downburst, and its basically a joke when you have 3-4 melee or whatever splitting the damage. or so i would imagine, because, for whatever reason, i have yet to be in a group that does the triangle strat lol

maybe its because i find EX primal fights to be less fun than HMs and tend to avoid doing them altogether. I think i am just bored to tears of following patterns.
