I am not a speedy FFXIV player; I tend to wander a bit since I love to travel and explore. I have two characters (MNK, BRD) at level 39. My highest DoH is 50 Goldsmith. I just LOVE the little things in this great game that surprise me.

I acquired the wolf pup and coeurl kitten yesterday. I am a dog fancier, so the pup is my absolute favorite minion. I was crafting next to the Market Board in LL, keeping an eye on my new pup, when a little coeurl kitten walked by. They faced off against each other. I was a bit amazed and watched slack-jawed. She arched her back and proceeded to paw at the pup. The pup appeared to be barking back at her. The pup ran away, came back, and they had another stand-off. This went on for quite a while.

Is this the only documented case of minion interaction? Kudos to Square Enix for programming this bit of fun into FFXIV.

Wow, I had no idea that sort of thing happened. That's super cool. I'm now definitely going to do those quests.

here do you get the wolf pup and coeurl kitten minions? The only thing I have so far is the tiny airship.

Another thing i noticed were the amazing ambient noises. I dont often play with my sound at reasonable volumes, but was waiting for the new Crystal Tower FATE's to appear, and way out in the middle of nowhere in Sahagin land, a large group of people were gathered.

It was then i noticed that if a large enough group of people gathers together, even in the middle of nowhere, you hear chatter, laughing, shouting, whistling, like if you were in a busy town square. And when the FATE started, cheering and screaming, it was awesome. I had no idea they programmed things like that in.

Both quests are in Aleport right near Aetheryte, Skribyld.

If you check the market board under Miscellany you'll see a lot of minions for sale pretty cheap. I got a few for 1-20g, others for a couple hundred, and then others go for thousands. I haven't checked the new minions out yet, been busy fishing and leveling thm to 26.

Not sure if I imagined this but didn't someone post a youtube link of this earlier today? I ran out of time while browsing and for the life of me can't find it now. Feeling left behind at the minute as I'm on holiday and not able to play. Sounds like it's all causing quite a buzz though.

Actually.. When I have my chocobo and Tesee has her chocobo we have seen them interact sometimes.

Aleport is in Western La Noscea south of Sastasha, the first dungeon you do.

SE stated they changed Minion behavior and animations in 2.1, so this is likely the first ones that does.

I'd bet there are more interactions like this, still undiscovered. For example, 2 SCH fairies brought close together will starting talking to one another!

Not sure about the pup, but if you have the kitten out and attack a mob, it will raise its tail and paw like it is trying to attack with you. So cute.

Pudgy Puk will now drift around you. He'll look at other minions in the area, then try to ignore them, then look again, then flutter away.

Really subtle change but since he's my favorite I noticed the adjustment. (Poor lil guy still can't fly though.)

Adding the minions to FFXIV has to be one of Square Enix's best ideas ever. I'm spending an inordinate amount of time, bordering on obsession, watching them because they are so dang cute. I told my husband that I'll probably get virtual diabetes 'cause of all the sugary sweetness in this game.

I got the gobbue pet last night and it has a flavor text line that says it doesn't like cats. Can somebody try and bring their gobbue pet near a couerl pet?

The minions were inspired by the pets in WoW, and the pet interaction is a page out of the same playbook. I'm hoping they will be further inspired to bring in minion battles like WoW has as well. That will be a hoot!

I may be the only person in this thread that has not played WoW. When my friends defected from FFXI when WoW first arrived, I stayed put in FFXI. I am an extremely loyal FF fan, i.e., I had a FF wedding and wedding cake; I met my idol, Nobuo Uematsu, and got his picture and autograph; and my license plate says CHOCOBO - lol.

I saw a license plate once at a convention that said RDM 75. Bet that guy was pissed when they raised the level cap.

Actually minions have been in other MMOs before WOW. WOW just copy a system that was becoming popular, for example Fly For Fun had pet since 2005 which you level and grant you stats as they grow. The WOW pet battle system is just a copy of pokemon which is been done since the late 90s. SE is finally doing a move forward with the pet interactions with their surroundings. I do want a pet battle system too, giving you more options in the game for interaction with other player other than the current endgame battle system.

Nope I stayed with FFXI too and never play WOW.

Same, if I hadn't gotten into FFXI I would have probably tried WoW but I had FFXI and stayed with it.

I've never heard of Fly for Fun, but Wikipedia tells me that World of Warcraft released in November 2004 with a large variety of pets on launch day, over a year before Fly for Fun (which released in December 2005). I would say there might be a good chance that they copied WoW as well, but I don't know or care to know for sure (but I'd bet on it). You mentioned that other MMOs had minions before WoW. Which ones?

I'm not directing this next part at you, FedeMax, just the internet Final Fantasy fandom at large when WoW gets mentioned. It isn't the end of the world to give props to Blizzard for reinventing the MMO and making it more accessible to the general gaming public. FFXIV:ARR wouldn't be as successful if they didn't take a lot of the good things that WoW brought to the table and incorporate them into Eorzia. Warcraft didn't do a lot of things first, but it did them very well and redefined them. You can bet your bottom dollar that Yoshi P has played a ton of WoW and knows what makes it tick, as well as a lot of other MMOs. He enjoys playing more than one MMO, can't we?

I've played FFXI since 2003 NA launch and I love it as well. I'm still amazed at how unpopular it is on the internet to like more than one game in a genre at a time. I don't care who makes these games as long as they're fun. It doesn't always have to be Coke vs Pepsi 24/7.

(But seriously, Pepsi is a weak, sickly sweet wannabe copy of Coke. Coke forever, baby!)

They both suck. Barq's Root Beer FTW.
