A beginner's question(s) on macrosFollow

#1 Dec 05 2013 at 11:54 AM Rating: Decent
My son and I finally started playing the game last, and and we made it up to level. I'm playing a GLD, and he's a THM. After he went to bed, I decided to set up some macros for myself to help us both out. It being his first MMO, I think we would both benefit from learning how to mark mobs and focus those down now, because there were a few instances where we'd be fighting different things, and that's not good.

I followed a GLD/PLD macro guide from BG, but then I realized I had no idea how to use the macros that I made. How do you do this? I played FFXI with a controller, and macros were very accessible by hitting L2/R2 instead of CTRL/ALT. And in XI, it basically told you on the macro how to access it. For XIV, they're just numbered sequentially.

I can access abilities with an L2/R2 + a face button. Do I need to replace those ability icons with a macro? If so, how do you do it?

Assuming that you are on PS3 because of your reference to the L2/R2 button, hit the start button, scroll over to System, go to "User macros" then open that up. You will see the list where you can create the macro. Seems that you already have made the macro, so I'll skip ahead. Your problem appears to be that you need to set it to your toolbar. Highlight over the icon listing your macro and press the square button. You should have an option that lets you set it to the hotbar. Then Press L2 or R2 and whatever button to assign it where you want it.

I'm playing on the PC, but the controller is similar. Thank you very much for the help. I'll give it a try when I get home later this evening.

I'm not on PC, but I could assume that right clicking the macro icon would give you an option to set it to your hotbar. Seems like the intuative way to do it.

You actually just make the macro, and drag the macro button to your action bar.

EG
I made a macro that puts a mark on the mob when i shield lob to pull so everyone knows what the first target is.

I remove shield lob from the action bar, replace it with the macro.

Now i only have one shield lob icon, and it adds a target mark.
