Question on DPS metricsFollow

I am not sure if this is explained anywhere so I figured Id ask.
So there is DMG, DLY, DPS (DMG/DLY), Auto Attack, and Attack proficiency. Attack proficiency being the important value, because when you have a 100 potency attack it bases it off that value.

When looking at Garuda, Relic, and Relic +1 weapons, it gets kinda confusing to me.

Ill use paladin as an example first.
Garuda 41 dmg , 1.76 dly, 41/1.76= 23.3 dps, auto attack 24.05
Relic 44 dmg, 2.32 dly, 18.97 dps, auto attack 34.03

So as you see dmg goes up, dly increases (gets slower), and as such the DPS is actually lower on Relic than on Garuda. But then you have auto attack going up 10 points on relic, presumably because its ilevel is higher?

So, what should you be looking at when determining what will raise your attack proficiency? I assume it is the auto attack value? Because I have a hard time believing i will have lower dps with relic than garuda. Obviously you gain other stats with relic,

You look at the actual weapon damage component on the weapon. The higher it is, the better for you because everything from heals, to attacks, to *Flash* is derived from that number. The other stats are nice, but everything pales in comparison to that raw damage/magic damage number.

You can make up any wonky stats from everywhere else. You can only get weapon damage (currently and probably forever) from one source. The delays and everything else are nice for looking at for your auto-attack damage but with everything you do being either on or off the GCD and standardized from that WDMG it's your highest priority.

The delay is just there for flavor. Garuda's Talon is more of a rapier look (lighter, faster) and the Curtana/+1 is more of traditional sword (heavier, slower). Even with the Allagan Sword being a slightly different delay than Curtana +1 they're equal even if one shows a slightly higher 'DPS' than the other simply due to mechanics of WDMG (Allagan's preferred due to the secondary stats, not any miniscule 'dps' changes).

(There *are* some cases, like BRD, where it's been mathed out that your upgraded relic isn't your most important upgrade immediately, but that's another subject.)

For RAW auto-attack dps the OP would be correct. However, the DPS calculation is diffirent since it's measured over time and takes into account much more factors.

Long story short, delay for auto-attack is irrelevant. You're not going to see or notice it affecting you when your base damage is 3 points higher and is included on all your weaponskills hits, which retain their original delay values. Higher damage = better. Even an increase of one single point of raw weapon base damage is more than auto-attack can catch up with in whatever circumstances.

*edit* But apparently already got answered above.

Thanks all, i was just perplexed about a lot of the numbers (dps goes down, auto attack goes up, etc) and wanted a comparison because I am currently at the junction of.

PLD and MNK both full DL and relic geared, but deciding which I will get more bang for my buck, going +1 mnk or +1 pld. I feel like the only real option is to just do pld first since i get insta queue in all parties with it, and even with a +1 relic, mnk still has to wait 10-45 minutes most of the time.
