So lately people insta drop when DF doesn't provide SMN or BLM. This is a waste of time, try the following

Pretend the nails are a square

all DPS attack bottom left nail while strongest DPS LB3's the top left nail and then moves to help other DPS (one tank may need to assist depending on total DPS power)

Everyone kills bottom right nail, just before it dies LB DPS moves to top right and fires off the second LB2 is available

DPS chip in if needed

seriously it's not that much harder than BLM LB strat. Give it a shot at least once.

The biggest issue is people start attacking the LB (top) nails and wasting their dmg.

Yeah have a DPS LB 3 the first nail (closest to Ifrit) and focus fire in turn on the rest. You get an LB2 back after killing 3 nails, which should be fired on the last nail.

It's not hard, got my first Ifrit HM win this way. The main issue is people need to be attacking the nails in turn as a group, but that's what marking targets is for.

People right now are stuck on "The most efficient way". This is unfortunately the way of MMOs (or so I have been told).

I would rather do things with a non-traditional party, and have fun, than do this cookie-cutter-spam-fest-speed-battle-Zerg-Breeding-Ground-rampage BS.

The only place that is an issue is the Duty Finder. If you get a few other like minded individuals who also want to do things the creative way on your server, you can do the fights however you want.

If you're using the Duty Finder, you're rolling the dice and the game WILL give you a standard party setup.

The real problem is people don't want to waste time. In a random set up you will need to establish that before the fight and people aren't going to want to wait to hear your plan out, they will just move on.

For me that's a problem because the game is meant to be beat more than one way and people who drop without having a "proper setup" make it hard to see what ways you can do it. I guess that's what a FC is for...

If you find me in your party, I won't drop. Ill try anything a few times. Its easy to tell if something might work vs won't work.

I am the same way. I prefer to take it slow, and do things that work "best" for the people who are in the party.

But, I will give the zerg-blast a try, and for things like AK and CM you really have no choice in the matter... Though, I am trying to get a static together for AK. I find it interesting that people zerg AK when you only need to do 8 runs in a week. There really is no reason to rush... But maybe they are going to go do something else, I guess...

As blm is my only lvl 50 class, I don't have personal experience with this problem, but I can say, this feels an awful lot like when you dont have a scholar on titan HM. Can be done, but much more difficult.

I wouldn't recommend LB3 on nail closest to ifrit. You will most likely get interrupted. Instead, as soon as Ifrit gives his "Judgement" text cue, that DPS should run to the nail directly west of Ifrit (the nail that spawns pretty much where the party begins the instance). You'll get there just as the nail spawns. Stand on the west side of the nail (ie as far from Ifrit as possible) and activate LB3, otherwise you will get interrupted.

After that its just a matter of DPS focus firing and using LB1, definitely helps to have someone mark nail order. This is very doable, but with low DPS its a tight squeeze.

First time i did it successfully on DRG, I used no buffs pre- LB3, saving them for the DPS/build LB phase. Unbuffed LB3 still one-shotted the nail. Was using relic/DL so YMMV

edit: interesting, didn't think you could build to LB2, that's almost definitely the better way to go

That's all I ask. I know my strat is sound. Try once, if you don't even get close then abandon away. If you get close and maybe one person messed up and you missed it by a few seconds... well, IMO give it a 2nd shot but I can understand tanks dropping. They don't have to wait 30-90+ minutes in between runs. But those of us in DPS jobs do, and usually it's only one of the 4 messing it up. Hell, I'd say it's about 50/50 that a DPS is stunning because they don't know their WSs do that or the main tank getting excited and stunning causing resists later. We all make mistakes, I always try at least twice.

Llester, I've only ever seen a BLM get interrupted on the first LB.

I've given a few groups a shot to complete the fight without a BLM or SMN and sometimes it has worked out and sometimes it hasn't. You don't have anything to lose trying it once with that group. Usually it works if one DPS is significantly geared and doesn't if people aren't. BLM or SMN LB makes life a lot easier in a DF situation. Every time I've done the the fight with only melee DD/DPS it has been very, very close on timing or a failure.

Doesn't the arcanist do the same LB as BLM? Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought they had the same effect?

not sure exactly what you mean there, but if a BLM/SMN is getting interrupted on LB they are standing too close to ifrit. If a melee gets on the nail closest to ifrit as fast as possible, the timing is such that he will get hit by Vulcan Burst, which is why when I employ this type of strategy; I always run to the nail furthest from Ifrit and stand on the far side of it to LB3. Its not necessarily a huge deal to have LB interrupted but often success with this strat comes down to a matter of seconds so its best to err on the side of caution.
