What's with the sudden, awkward change at ~1:15? It's nice enough but sounds like a compilation track to me.

Eh, I don't find it too jarring. Grasping at straws here, but perhaps the actual track is longer and this is an abridged version? Or, in the blog post Soken said he would be releasing 3 tracks in the letter (or at least that's the way I read it)... maybe this is an amalgamation of those 3?

It is a "medley", a compilation of several songs. If that's the English expression for it.

Ah, good! It sounded like it was at least 2~3 tracks hooked together. Thanks for the information. Smiley: nod

I believe two of them are tracks from La Noscea.

I'm not expecting amazing music, but I only listened to them once. The last thing I want is to bored of them before the game even comes out. I'm trying to give the thing a fighting chance. It'd be really nice if they'd have ten minute tracks or so, so the music doesn't get boring quite as fast, but I doubt they can manage that in this crunch.

It's probably the same way zone music is being made. It will change and shift as you move through the town, with certain parts dropping off, others picking up, to play a complete song as you move through the area.

I like this but as someone who is a musician and a big XI fan I still havent heard anything quite like the greatness of Ronfaure or the grooviness of Yuhtunga Jungle. Masterpieces imo.

Well I can't argue with you there; even years later I'll thump out the sweet beats of the jungle, heh:

♫ Doop doop, ba'doom ba'domp, dom ba'domp, doom ba'doop. ♫

I can't argue with you as well Aadrenry. I own the entire FFXI soundtrack and that song brings back memories from the first time I was ever there, and had to actually run to a party invite, that was deep in the second zone. I got lost, and was mauled by Goblins!! LOL

That map was confusing until you got a good understanding of it lol. That game was so amazing that every song you hear, brings back memories. I too don't think Nobuo can top that nostalgia from FFXI, but I can tell he's trying, and what a challenge he has before him. That being said, I do enjoy that new track he's made for Limsa Lominsa. I just wish he would keep the old Gradania music.

The other day I randomly started humming the theme to Hall of the Gods when I zoned in. (The game was on mute.) Didn't even think about it. My husband asked what I was singing, and I turned on the volume for him. We just sat there together for about five minutes, listening to the choir.

I'm not sure Uematsu is even making the music for XIV any longer. If he is, though, it's only a select few tracks.

It's good but it doesnt sound like town music?

I feel like town music should be a little more relaxed(imo)

the old version felt like too much of a production too, but not to this extent

(what other tracks are getting replaced?)

The devs should really take a look at the comments on youtube for ffxi tracks. Almost everyone there says "The game now is just solo, I miss making friends in grind groups" etc. I switched to WoW full time after WotG, but I would still take the old way.

Probably pretty close. 2 people mowing down mobs, 1 person opening boxes and 15 people afk doing something they actually enjoy Smiley: lol

Afk is a part of any multiplayer game. It existed in XI long before abyssea, it exists in XIV. Blame it on the content, blame it on features, blame it on the combat, blame it on real life.

I am in the mindset of choosing to focus on whatever game it is I'm playing. And if I have other things to do or can't
offer my focused attention. I turn the game off by personal choice and common courtesy of other people waiting on me to get something done in game. Some people multitask and/or afk for short or long sessions.

Like it or hate it. Afk is not going anywhere if in game measures are not put in place to combat that. I say if SE has content that spans multiple hours in one session. To try & prevent afk or expect people not to afk is asinine. If you allow or encourage powerleveling, why not just offer a buyable level select class in game. At least then SE would make extra money versus rmt lol.

What you permit you promote.

There it is again. Rule No.1 of MMOs: "Any mechanic that can be exploited to gain an advantage will be."

It DID??? It does?

I haven't played the new level 99 FFXI was but back in my days afking was a good way to get everyone wiped!

I'm pretty sure he doesn't mean in the middle of a fight (though it did happen there quite a bit too.) Plenty of times a tank would say he was going to afk rr then not show up again for 45 minutes.

There's a difference between going afk to go feed your cat or have a smoke and going afk overnight while you gain several million exp for no other reason then you'd rather not mindlessly kill the same worm over and over and over and over....

The solution is to make the content engaging enough that people want to devote their attention to it and challenging enough that it actually requires that attention to be coordinated and focused on whatever the objective is.

SE has been nuking the RMT exp alliances at least. There are still the occasional player run fell cleave groups (one on Bismarck ran for two months because it was the fastest way to build up the 150 million for a relic for one of their guys) but the hourly RMT shouts for afk exp are done.

The Limsa Lominsa music sounds very similar to Bastok, for which I am elated. Bastok was one of my top five favorite tunes in FFXI(the others: Mhaura, Selbina, Lufaise Meadows, Santuary of Zi'tah).

It's a shame Nobou isn't composing the music for FFXIV, but I hope they still keep signature FF tracks that give the series its identity(The victory music, chocobo music, and they've got to have the Crystal Theme in there somewhere.). Hearing the Crystal Theme after defeating the Shadow Lord in FFXI was just about the best reward I could have received for completing a mission.

Hence I said"What you permit you promote".....
If you design xp zones with a lvl 30 requirement, no xp cap, low resource management, redundant job roles, no short boot timer(TE too easy and too extendable) and do not drastically improve older xp zones. You get afk promoted. They know this yet it is permitted.

If you have a claim system/enemy characteristics that permit burns or bots. You guess what? Per... it! Therefore you promote it.

I am just saying that if they permit something. Don't pussyfoot around. Come right out and be vocal, offer to sell a higher level character. At least then they make money and not rmt, the players who want to play the game the longer/ risk/rewarding way do not get cced by monopolisers.

I don't think they should allow bypassing content in any shape or form. Especially in an online persistent subscription based game. But I am not SE, my opinion means diddly squat, the exception being if I sub or not. Make it engaging, color it in diamonds, make the heavens align in perfect harmony. The facts remains, if there is a way, someone has a will. Leave a cash register open with no cashier or cameras on. Seventy people may leave that money be. But that seventy first guy sees the opportunity to cash in. Even if the other seventy tell on him. But the law doesn't punish theft. That seventy first guy is going to grab that cash and laugh all the way home.

What you permit you promote, what you permit you promote. WHAT YOU PERMIT YOU PROMOTE.
