Question from a previous member about betaFollow

Hi there. Just seen that the beta test site went live a week ago, and i've got some questions.

One: I bought the collectors but didn't pay a subscription. I wasn't happy with how it was at launch, I won't get legacy, but will I still get an invite to play the beta in mid-february (Following the roadmap it says beta starts mid feb).
Two: How do you go about signing up for the beta as a previous player? I don't see any "Log in" on the beta application site. Any ideas?
Three: Will we have to rebuy the game at launch, or will we have access at launch? What about memberships, did they say if we'd get a month free right off the bat?

Thanks if you can answer any.

1+2) You'll possibly get an invite before beta phase 4 if you sign-up; just use the same e-mail that you used when registering the collector's edition.
3) No; full access. Everyone gets a few months regardless :) 12.99 = 1 character per server max 8 I think (across all), or 14.99 gets you 8 / server, max 40 across all.

Hope that helps :)

Why is it you'd suggest i'd get an invite so late in testing? I mean, last I checked, everyone will get an invite prior to P4 because P4 is OBT.

My main question is, how do you players who have bought the game, how have you gone about signing up for the beta? Have you somehow done it through your accounts or did you sign up via email like the rest of the non-account holders?

I have legacy, I didn't have to; but I did for PS3. I went to the site; put in my email address I used for my account and pressed "Submit".

Regarding the open beta yes, it's in phase 4 and yes you'll get to play for sure then; but "IF" you want an invite before then you have to signup. If you don't signup you won't get in before then; it's not a suggestion that you would get in late; it's a possibility.

Legacy members are in beta from start. Those with no accounts have a chance to get in phase 1-3 if you opt in like you did. Same for those with accounts but no legacy status.

Just so I haven't missed anything, as far as we know beta still starts around February right?

Also, I read on the roadmap about the level sync feature, and being able to use 1.0 characters. What does this mean? What is level sync and will we be able to use 1.0 characters at the launch of ARR?

Level sync is a system where higher level characters can lock their level to lower level friends in their party so they can exp etc. together.

1.0 characters will be usable at launch in ARR yes.

Your character from 1.0 will be ported over to 2.0, with a steep reduction in any gil you accumulated. You can elect to change your race/appearance once (they're also looking into allowing name changes), but you may not transfer servers with your 1.0 character.

There will be 2 types of servers at launch, those with 1.0 chars (that new people can join), and clean, fresh servers where everyone is a level 1 n00blet. Take your pick.

Also, they are saying that they will allow you to play with your 1.0 char in phase 3 of the beta (should you be picked to join in), and that unless there are unforseen circumstances that don't allow it, character data from phase 4 on will be carried over to the launch of ARR (yes, you lose any progression from phase 3 to phase 4).

It's all spelled out here: http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/download/en/FFXIV_2.0_BETA_Roadmap_EN.pdf

That's not an entirely accurate statement, Wint. Gil will be revalued, so 1000 = 100, 100 = 10, etc. Technically, you don't lose money, but it remains to be seen.

Going from 5,000,000 to 500,000 isn't a steep reduction?

Yes they're lowing prices, but losing 4.5 million gil is a bit of a pinch wouldn't you say? We have no idea what the opening game economy will be like either.

I am interested to see how this works. As mostly a forum lurker, I have been biding my time until PS3 beta/release because I have a 4 year old laptop and can't afford a new rig.

Anyways, if I get into the PS3 beta and am playing around in phase 4 with a charatcer and gain a few ranks/levels will this beta phase 4 PS3 character be restricted to the servers with existing 1.0 characters or would you still have the option to join one of the fresh servers?

I would speculate more on the side of getting to pick your server. Since they have to port all the 1.0 characters over, they have all the info on who is a new character and who is old. You should have no issue joining a fresh server if you so choose.

EDIT: I just read what I wrote and smh'd. All PS3 characters will have the ability to choose any server.

That is sort of what i was thinking as well. Though, if we get some hardcore people playing the PS3 beta the servers may not be as "fresh" as some people were hoping.

Its all relative, if you look at it as a loss you will get upset. i know it sucks going from 3mil - 300k like i will be doing. It will just take time for players to adjust from setting prices that used to be 30mil to 3mil etc.
#15 Jan 16 2013 at 10:26 AM Rating: Good
Problem is, we can't count on the players to do so. I guy who was selling something for 5mil is not going to immediately start selling it for 500k. He may lower it to 2mil, but that's still quite the price hike.

Exactly right. Eventually though the market will adjust itself. It probably would have done that without this number crunch SE is doing, but it'll happen regardless.

Agreed. Assuming all the same vendors were around, and their shop prices had been adjusted, it wouldn't make much difference aside from the fact that you had more money than you could ever possibly spend.

All I'm saying is that my statement is not misleading. You WILL see a steep reduction in gil.

Thinking of FFXI, how often do you buy from vendors versus players? If XIV goes the same way, reducing vendor costs won't do much unless everything you can get from players you can also get from vendors (which I seriously doubt will be the case, why have an AH then?)

Thank you for all of the replies. I am kind of disappointed that 1.0 characters will be brought over. Don't get me wrong, I like my old character (didnt get her up very far) but having everyone on the same playing field, I think that's pretty cool. Oh well.

Yeah that is a price hike, however the way the wards worked in 1.0 was that you could see the prices of things listed as opposed to things that have previously sold. So there is a lot of undercutting and stuff like that since people are too impatient to wait for things to sell for 2mil you will see undercutting. It wont be immediate but the economy will stabilize...i hope...but like any other mmo if you want the good stuff you gotta go work for it, dont expect handouts.

I wouldnt be coming to ARR if i didnt get to keep my char, i mean i have all battle/mage classes 50 mnr 50 gsm 47 almost all of the DL gear and 4/7 relics...if SE decided to wipe all the hard work of the people that stuck around it would just be foolish.

I don't get this mentality at all. SE can't win for losing. They're making new player only servers for those who don't want level 50's around day one. They're letting those who invested an incredible amount of time in their 1.0 characters to use them in 2.0. I can't see how this doesn't make everyone happy Smiley: dubious

I think people secretly do not want choice, they just want what they want handed directly to them with no thought as to how it got there.

It does strike me as a little odd I will be going into a brand new game...at the end of it. I have all classes and crafts maxed...i wonder what there will be to do? Start over? I think not. Im not sure id call the currency redomination a 'gil reduction', because its all relative. if you had 5 mil and are going to have 500k, that would still be a lot in a brand new economy. Just like 500k in the early 1900s is 500mil now.

Different strokes. Personally I intend to play on a new server for that exact reason (don't want max level players running around day 1), but I can understand that someone who put so much work into their character wouldn't want to lose that (and they shouldn't have to).

I think it does boil down to people not really being aware of the differentiated servers, or not understanding what that actually means.

And this is the Internet after all, so people will warp to conclusions with little or no information and assume they can do no wrong.
