with Dust 514, FFXIV and Defiance all hitting in the Summer.. that sounds lilke a lot to handle.. lol FFXI was basically a full time job by itself i couldnt imagine what trying to play lets say that and WoW simultaneous woulda been like.

not to mention juggling 3 MMOs PLUS singe player games lol, anyone ever done that before? how did you manage?

Isn't Dust 514 going to be Free?

I could easily play that and FFXIV. Otherwise... not sure I can handle 2 full-fledged mmos..

its free doenst mean it wont have a lotta stuff to do to keep you busy if you try too put out your character the fastest you can or do as much as you can in one day on each.

i mean sure you can play two of them an hour each and the other all day but how much can you accomplish in an hour in those other two. i dont think a few skill point a day is gonna do much for example lol

When I'm playing one mmo, I'm thinking about stuff I need to do in the other mmo, and then vice versa. I played FFXI and WoW, just WoW, then WoW and Rift, with LotR thrown in occasionally. Does not work for me.

I'll keep subs to XI and XIV, but that's it. Never heard of these others you mention.

Just curious. Having played all those which, if any, do you still play?

When I started XIV, I abandoned XI entirely. I'm a one MMO guy. Even with playing one MMO I feel like I can't keep up with other games that come out. I couldn't imagine what gaming is like for those who play 2+ simultaneously.

Yeah, but being free, and being a shooter, makes it more likely to play while playing another mmo. If it was 2 similar mmos, like XI and XIV, I'd have trouble committing to both, but with Dust, I'll definitely play it because it would be a change of pace when I want a break from XIV.

Nope. Dust is very very different, please read the above statement again. I've highlighted the parts you missed.

I usually have 3 going at a time... I think I'll be playing MechWarrior Online, Neverwinter, and XIV at the same time. Usually I LFG or wait for good shouts in XIV while playing quick matches in games like MWO, depending on how demanding Neverwinter is... I might grind or craft or something while waiting for XIV fun. I plan to have XIV as my main MMO though.

the bold parts you outlined were "being a shooter" as if to point out its different from FFXIV... well DCUO is just as different from FFXIV as it doesnt required a lot of time, more fast paced (like a brawler) gameplay and not a huge list of things to accomplish in one day.

"if it was two similar mmos" well FFXIV and DCUO arent very similar

"change of pace when I cant a break from FFXIV" Id say DCUO is definitely a change of pace from FFXIV >.>

Just WoW at this time. I left FFXI in '08. After Cataclysm came out and sucked the large lemon, I played Rift for about 10 months after it released.
LotR off and on after it went ftp, but I never really got into it. I'm only playing WoW because my brother still has his guild going and he carts me along when they need more people. I'm burned out tho, I do some dailies and run heroics a few times a week, and I play Pokemon...er, hunt and level up battle pets. Am waiting for FFXIV.

I also tried to do EVE and XI at the same time. It worked out for a little while, but doing both was difficult. It gets hard to commit after a while. I still play both games, just not at the same time.

I played XI and WoW for a while in 2005. The problem that it creates is the fact that one will always interfere with the other just due to the sheer amount there is to do; especially at max level.

If you were going to level up while you were playing another game simultaneously, it'd probably be okay, but once you got to level cap in both games, you'd really be struggling to keep the same amount of interest in both.

but then it still creates the dilemma of

"i can level up simultaneous on these two games and take 2 months hitting max level on both or stick to just one and hit max levelin a month..

also the main problem is subscription fee... if youre paying lets say 15 bucks a month each on two games you start to feel like youre not playing either as much as you think you should based on the money youre investing in them... now if you played 3 MMOs one was subscription based and the other two were F2P hen I dont see a problem.. play the one youre paying for as much as you need/want and you can play the other two whenever you want.. even if that was 4 hours a month lol. at least you wouldnt feel your money was going to waste

that depends on the situation... if youre playing solo and dont have many.any friend ingame then yeah you can have fun leveling both and taking 2 months.. but if you have friend sin game you did stuff with when you first met and wanna continue doing stuff with but cant because in a week theyre shot up 20 levels while youve only gained 10 (because of diving your time between two games as opposed to their just one) and now youre too low level to do stuf with them.. that can kinda bum you out.

The only situation it depends on is the one you had fun with. In the scenario you described, would you really divide up your time evenly KNOWING that you would be falling behind your static group? Would you let yourself fall behind then claim the game just isn't as fun because you allowed yourself to be put in that situation? It's one thing for real life obligations to affect MMO progress but it's another to willingly grind down a different game when you could be keeping up with a group you're having fun with. "What if I have a separate group in each game I'd like to keep up with?" That's your problem if you can't keep commitments. If I had a static and one guy tells me, "I may not be available at these times due to the 3 other MMOs I'm playing", would I stop the entire groups progress just to wait for them? I can't say I'd be as understanding because it's something completely within their control.

an din that scenario Id say then why am I paying 15 bucks a month for 3 games.. thats 45 bucks a month If im gonna play one of them 75% of the time (to keep up with my static) and the other two 12% of the time each? to me then that extra 30 bucks could be put to better use. now then if those two games were free.. and Im only paying for one of them (the one my static is in) then yeah Id happily play that one enough to keep up with them, and hope to the others "whenever i have time to play them".

luckily one of those three games IS free so that solves that problem.. but the second one is an unknown.. the devs arent giving out subscription plan info yet (despite the fact that its January and the game is set for april release.. i mean how many months before FFXIV came out did we know how much it was gonna cost? lol).. However Im hoping it is free or at least B2P (because we know for a fact we will have to BUY the game... and itll be 59.99 lol) considering its made by Trion and Im sure all or at least 95% of their MMOs are free (heck didnt eve Rift go F2P?)

For myself I always felt like I was still advancing in Eve Online while somewhat ignoring the game due to the games skill learning lengths. I could set a 30 day skill planner then go immerse myself in XI or even try a different mmo. I realize Eve's real time skill learning is fairly unique in this regard compared to other games but it was a huge turn on for me. Having XI to play was a great way to pass that time.

I think we finally agree on something. But to answer the original topic; I don't like to invest in multiple MMOs (sub or f2p) at the same time. Not really sure why, it just doesn't appeal to me. I had a WoW and SWTOR sub at the same time but ended up cancelling my SW sub because I was rarely playing it. Sure, I could still play as a preferred status but, meh. I have plenty of console games I could still complete, even more so since my Wii ate my GameCube memory card and wiped all my saves.

Yeah, I've been with two MMOs at once -- a few times, in college.

It was right good fun but, man, all the awkward social logistics afterwards are a nightmare. Jealously. Competition. Favouritism. It creeps in even as you least expect it. What started as just a little innocent play soon becomes serious. Take it from someone who's been there. My advice is to find one you really like and stick to it, it'll save you some headaches.

Yeah, but being free, and being a shooter, makes it more likely to play while playing another mmo. If it was 2 similar mmos, like XI and XIV, I'd have trouble committing to both, but with Dust, I'll definitely play it because it would be a change of pace when I want a break from XIV.

DCUO consist of 2 cities and a hub area... FF consist of a LOT more

DCUO is a fast paced button masher basically.. FFs combat is a tab more complex that requires OSM Strategy and thinking

it stakes next to no time at all to accomplish thing in DCUO.. FF takes a tad bit longer.. sure it may not be FFXI long but compared to DCUO it is.

so based on those things DCUO and FFXIV are nothing similar thus one is a change of pace from the other

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Tomato Tomato. This is a pretty silly disagreement, but I played DCUO and aside from the super hero angle, I didn't find it different enough to warrant spreading my time out. (by this i mean different from wow/swtor/rift/etc) The only benefit of DCUO is the ability to make a superhero cheerleader with basketball-sized women parts.

Usually I LFG or wait for good shouts in XIV while playing quick matches in games like MWO, depending on how demanding Neverwinter is... I might grind or craft or something while waiting for XIV fun. I plan to have XIV as my main MMO though

This is what I do, except substitute those games for games like rpgs(ff,dishonored, skyrim, etc), street fighter, littlebigplanet, etc... movies, shows and ***...

I'm a FF mmo fan to the core(oldschool too nin, war, war, war, brd, rdm pties), no other one has compared to xi and im sure xiv will be my next thing... although, I've been thinking about subing ffxi with my friend and finishing our beastmaster duo :D

old school would be those of us who got a job to 75 BEFORE toau.. when parties consisted of a tank, 2 DDs, a healer, refresher and a blm (or maybe in some cases 3 DDs and the role of refresher and healer would be played by one job)

back when you still did skill chains and magic bursts (hence the blms)

LoL, well I beta'd xi, so I could go earlier than that, but dude, you just named what I put in the first place, except the 3 wars "CAN" be exchanged, but BUT, you see my way was preferred by experienced players

nin, war, war, war (no one tanked lol, tank WHAT lol)

brd,rdm (basically every one pulled, (had to be a knowledgeable rdm to do so, which meant /whm) both mages healed, pulled and refreshed, you pull with provoke, which makes nin, the main puller because more shadows,

LoL I just gaged your ffxi knowledge, anyway the thing is with blms and other dd is rampage/NI/subshadows/provoke/slash whm on both brd & rdm and the fact that blms went off to manaburn and all this could be done before TOAU, and COP

I guess it just depens on how you played the game to get my little pun of nin warx3 brd rdm, its efficient and fast, thf & rng could sub, but thfs have epeen on mobs or its snot warx3... gosh all this xi talk... im so nostalgic, me and my friend chat for hours about stuffs like this lol

well beck then you needed tanks... i dont think three wars would suffice in sky/moon etc etc parties.. and if they did it was **** on the healer.. and yes BLMs COUDL manaburn back then.. the difference between back then and during toau is back then it was by choice... after toau it was because they HAD no other choice (i.e parties didnt want them anymore)

well, yeah, these kinds of parties weren't well known for endgame before toau, but at 41rdm up w/ brd ballad, you could still rush through mobs, one thing to note, is mob level as well, chaining vts also helped, which is why the voke pull and extra vokers... mage pullers, these zones would also be crowded, but a pt with this build, subbing the wars or two wars for thf, rng, and one war for a dd would still equal good xp, its ideal,

also when I say oldschool, i mean in setups compared to pups, dancer, sch, heavy parties, pups became stronger, blue mages, cors were popular... but before those jobs you had the ideal setup for xp, nin(main tank/puller) 3dd best to worst(oldschool) war(rmp/decentgear) thf/nin rng/ mnk,(<--tp jobs, should get ws off regularly) drg/drk(same) then for healers brd/rdm didnt need whm blm,(funny, since they were needed for endgame)

lol i for one rarely looked for blms, depended on if i wanted sc heavy xp, but i manaburned with them on brd and many of them liked the fact that they could burn slimes as opposed to pting, even motivated some to lvl blm

FFXI went through many different "Best" party setups over time. There was a time where Arrow burns were very popular in Sky IIRC. Grab someone to voke (maybe, not always) and have the RNG stand with some distance between them. They all just fire arrows until the mob falls. Rinse and repeat.

Anyone remember Fist Burns in KRT? Normally consisted of parties full of MNKs, though a few PLD did well there with high staff skills and Full Swing (I think that was the WS). ****, remember when PLDs wanted staff skill so they could tank with the Earth Staff?

There was a time where NIN and /NIN were the only way to go as 1-Handers had a big advantage over 2-handed DDs.

Then after the SAM update with Hasso and Seigan in ToAU days DRGs and SAMs became big DDs especially in merit parties on birds.

Ah memory lane... such a fond walk.
