Just as a preface, I had the special edition launch version of this game and was unimaginably let down by what Squarenix would allow out their doors to say the least. I think I played for about two or three months, de-activated and uninstalled. I would come visit the forums and whatnot to hear all the players that stayed on wait until that next patch to finally fix the game... Saw a lot of upset in the process. Pretty much all interest I had for the game was gone in about a year.
Well, as time has gone by, like many of you, I have gone back and played an FF title or two. I even got an FFXI account to check out some of the new changes to that game (it's pretty fun!) and I've always wondered what happened to Eorzea. So, now I'm seeing bits and pieces of info that has me intrigued. I understand that they are completely redoing the area maps and allowing you to jump (as in, like WoW?) I LOVE free-roam types of games and what has me more intrigued than that, I'm hearing the word "re-launch" thrown around in a few threads. I checked out the latest trailer with the Magitech armor and let me tell you, that's a nostalgia that cannot be shaken. FFVI was my favorite FF of all time! The fact that Squarenix even dares to conjur the specter of that game tells me they are raising the bar pretty high for themselves. I also saw that the mage made everyone disappear at the end of the trailer.
So, what's going on in FFXIVille? Are the servers down while they implement the new game world? Is Eorzea being completely reshaped by the dragon? Flying mounts? Auto-sorting inventory? I'm dying to know! I still have my box from that Collector's Edition kinda sitting here taunting me in my gaming room. I wonder, if those lofty expectations can ever be realized, and what is in store for that game that was to (never?) be.
