Read the wiki and stuff, couldn't log in for the final battle, never knew about it :(
Though with the whole transporting into the future and stuff are we to expect a "storyline continuation"?
Should it not be every single town, quest and world be completely different from standard XIV?
From what I hear it seems a lot of stuff is being kept but how can that be if it's a future timeline and not a complete restart?
Or will we expect a "post apocalpyse" world with every town and world changed and npc's with quests and script lines changed to fit the future timeline?
Also if that's the case how will ps3 users understand the deep backstory if they only come in from the "middle"?
I kind of asked this before I think but I'd like a more detailed response in terms of what exactly we'll be seeing changed.

well about your PS3 players question.. probably the same way we knew and learned of teh Great War in FFXI even though we were never in it./took part in it (wotg doesnt count)

the "old" FFXIV will be the new players "Great War" Im sure itll be mentioned in cutscennes and what not

The current story becomes lore that is told within the game.

I don't understand how a game can't be a sequel if it is based on the same world and continues the story of the prequel.

The setting should by all accounts reflect the fact that the Dalamud happened. Not having it be this way for some content would feel very out of place.

Technically, it's FFXIV-2 but SE won't ever admit that because they are very prideful of their Numbered Final Fantasies, and they don't want to admit failure.

New client, new engine, etc.

The 3 main towns are relatively unchanged, but now broken into zones. The rest of everything, we are getting a story continuation. Everything from 1.0 will be referenced and carried over. All the lore, the characters, the areas. Just, now we are in a time of turmoil which is great because the time of peace was boring, haha.

When they decided to re-vamp, they essentially made the 1.0 story a playable prologue.

Thanks for that...
Another question. Do you think we will keep ALL the NPC's?
I imagine that every npc, or most will be different, certainly I don't expect the same dancing mi'qote on the stage with the same roegadyn(?) wanting a piece of it and asking me for some worms to clean his shirt or what not in uldah? A random example by the way, I could have referred to another random npc(s) in another city.

Yeah, the first thing I can think of is the dancing cat girl... So sue me.

Depending on how far we are in the future, some NPCs may have aged or even died. I think many of the NPCs will still be around, though. I think it'd be kind of awesome if someone who was just a low level worker when 1.0 ended is now the head of a guild in 2.0 - they not only survived Dalamud, they got promoted.

Well, we know Lousoix is probably dead.

Cid, the three grand company leaders will still probably be around, and those NPCs for each nation (Papalymo/Yda/Thancred/etc) will likely still be around.

Dalmund opened to unleash a dragon, so it wasn't a catastophic meteor, so it's feasible to rebuild over 5 years. I suspect alot of the same NPCs will be around but only the big ones, like Cid and others.

If Louisx is dead... who will sent us to Primal fights?

As I said in another thread, it only took 10 years for vegetation to be restored after Mount St Helens erupted, it's not unheard of.

Louisoix was smiling there at the end. He KNOWS something.... That tricksy old fart. This is of course all just conjecture. But still.... He's gotta know something. Surely the prophecies and lore that he's been studying will say something of this.

Could be a bit of both. He couldn't save everyone, but he was able to save some of them. In a way, you could say that means he "knows something." He knows some of the warriors of Eorzea are safe, and that alone gives him a glimmer of hope.

I also felt it was a smile of acceptance. Kind of a "Well, it's finally over" feeling. Even though it didn't pan out optimally.

I'd also like to mention that graphics were never something I really geeked out over, especially in the department of "realism." There are so few examples of graphics that really get it right in that capacity. End of an Era got it right, specifically Louisoix. This very conversation discussing the range of emotions on his face in that one scene is proof of that. We've already suggested: subterfuge, happiness, and acceptance as reasons for his smile, and I'm sure much more can be discerned.

Lol eh... yeah it is a sequel... no longer is it just XIV... it is XIV: ARR :P. Like an offshoot sort of sequel haha.

But yes... perhaps his smile indicated that Dalamud and the Garleans have both failed. The heroes were saved and sent to the future to restore the world and the good guys were victorious in the end :P. Yeah he probably dead though.

Eh! As much as World of warcraft pandaria can be called a sequel i guess

But Erm! No ?

Lol you could call expansions sequels... usually they are all new things... this is a continuation of the old story though lol. XIV: ARR IS a completely NEW game is my thinking... while pandaria is some extra content for levels 85-90.

An expansion is an expansion, otherwise it would be called a sequel.... Makes sense ?

XIV: ARR is not a sequel, nor is it a new game, is an updated version of a previous game, the lore and story is the same, the classes are the same etc etc. Are there new additions to the game ? Yes! Is it a brand new game ? Not really in my opinion.

Flame away lol
