I have been searching around these forums for the last hour or so to see when the servers are coming back online with the new update and haven't been able to come up with an answer besides possibly "q1 2013"
Is this true? Thinking about coming back to the game.

They haven't announced a date for it yet. I think the old roadmap showed Q1 2013, but Yoshi said in the live letter that was earlier today that they are behind schedule by more than 2 months. He did mention a new roadmap coming though so hopefully we will get some solid updated info soon.
Everyone was hoping for January, but we might be looking at early March this go round.
They absolutely do not want a repeat of the bungled release of 1.0, whereupon they stupidly tried to release ahead of the WoW Cataclysm expansion.
