Just showed this clip to my video game hating asian wife. Even she felt a little sad at the end and proceeded to ask me why all this was happening. Pretty awesome.

I didn't play 1.0 at all, but even I was almost moved to tears by End of an Era. If I had played the game and were given the opportunity to establish connections with people and Eorzea itself, I probably would have full on cried... in a totally manly way...

Maudlin disposition aside, I confess, I've been steadily falling out of love with the idea of FFXIV, but End of an Era has rekindled my burning interest in the PS3 version. The amount of passion they've put into the video and reworking of the game has earned them a second look from me.

Not true. The old Star Wars Galaxies was completely redesigned with a second launch, too (and failed for a second time).
Warhammer online, LotRO and SWtoR went FtP after losing too many players.

And to be fair: we still have to see how long the resurrection of FFXIV lasts.
Until I can confirm that the new world is full of lore, hidden secrets, and fun, I am not so sure. Despite the fabulous trailer.

Edit:
EVE online also switched graphic engines midway. It's all been done before, with varying degrees of success (or none at all).

Edit II:
But, to end with something positive: the work they put into it definitely warrants a second look. At least I will re-subscribe
for a month at at time to be able to judge by myself. And to try out the boob slider. And to drive some nerds into suicide
by spamming jump in a reindeer outfit. Because that's what I play computer games for.

It would be foolish to assume any MMO is going to somehow magically break from these three patterns.

Looks like someone needs to actually read info on 2.0 before they ramble on about what they don't know. SE has said on several occasions they are getting rid of the speed run aspect of dungeons. Not only are all current endgame from 1.0 being redone (the 3 dungeons we had will grow to 3x original size at launch), there will be new primals, crystal tower, labyrinth of bahamut and even more endgame content available at release of the game. The entire focal point of SE is to launch with more content than players can handle right away to keep them from getting bored. I wouldn't worry, they won't release the game until they achieve that.

Ok. Now if the thing they resurrect is actually worth the resurrection, I guess we're both happy.
