Unless they plan to make major changes I fail to see why they "upgraded" to a new FF online. That barely looks better than what they can do with FFXI.
Square also have a long history of setting the standard to the weakest platform, they won't have 2 versions with major differences. They willl have the ps3 version and the pc version will be the same with higher res, that way they have one version to work on, having 2 differerent coded versions means vastly more testing times and coding time for any content they add/change after release for patches. They won't do that.
Well, there is a big difference between FFXIV & FFXI in this regard. When FFXI came out for PC (Nov 02), the PS2 was only a little over
2 years old (March 00) (they came out in NA in Oct 03, Oct 2000 respectively). When FFXIV came out for PC (Sept 10), the PS3 was 4 years old and assuming a PS3 release for FFXIV ARR of the 1st half of 2013, that puts the PS3 at
6 1/2 years old by then. And yeah, SE skimps on giving full support. If they couldn't even fully man FFXI after WotG's launch despite it being the game that made the most money for SE (more than even FFVII), they certainly aren't going to make 2 versions of code for FFXIV. It's the tradeoff that comes with being a multi-platform (PC + consoles) MMORPG.
