FFXIV or FFXI?Follow

Ok, I am wanting to get into a final fantasy game right now, and am debating XI or XIV. I bought XIV during f2p period for 10 bucks so all I would have to do is resub to begin playing again. However, I would have to repurchase XI again because I do not know what happened to my old account lol... But I was wondering if XI is just too hard for someone completely new to get into at this point. But I am also worried if XIV is even worth it until 2.0 because 2.0 doesn't come out until like January of next year or later right? So if anyone can tell me on which game I can have a better, more fun experience that would be greatly appreciated :P. Also, I heard a good linkshell can make all the difference in XI? So idk...

Well I have only played a little bit of trial, so i do not know much about how the game plays. But I love the selection of jobs. I have played FFIII which was really the only final fantasy game I have played with jobs like this and what not so I love White mage, bard, scholar, corsair :P. But if servers are going down November 1st... when does 2.0 launch?

But yeah I have hardly had enough experience in either to make a decision based on what the games are like. Well I had much more experience in XIV and didn't like the original selection of classes so lost interest. But now they have bard and white mage... And XI has new xpac with 2 new jobs coming out next year.... sigh...

haha yeah... i am kind of now leaning towards XIV since if you start now you get 10 dollar a month sub for life! I can live with that... and 2.0 looks tremendous with its landscapes and housing and chocobos and everything. So luckily I level god awful slow and I MAY have one job to 50 by the time it launches... most likely not lol

That's not quite it either.

You'll get the so called Legacy status by subscribing to FFXIV for a total of 3 months this year. Since this is the last month you can subscribe, if you haven't paid for two other months in the past, only then is it too late.

But, all is not lost. There will be discounts for subscribing for several months at a time that haven't been announced yet. My suspicion is that they haven't been announced because they'll be similar to the month-to-month rates of Legacy players and it would have hurt Legacy subscriptions to announce it too soon.

Hmm... well that sucks about not getting the 10 dollar a month fee... I have never payed for a month of subscription. I only played FFXIV for a little bit during f2p period and then never actually subscribed :(. Lol such a decision! I am hearing go to XIV, and don't go to XIV, go to XI, and don't go to XI lol

XIV has potential and we don't know whether it will recover or not.

and I honestly feel that XI has past its prime. It's still going, though. But those PS2 limitations seem to be hampering any growth. I see the Adoulin, but the zones look like rearranged versions of Valkurm and the jungle zones which I've forgotten their names. It seems like they can't add any new terrain assets where as XIV allows them lots of freedom for possible expansion, things they couldn't really do with the PS2.

That's the reason why I'm playing, anyway.

I was on FFXI last in May 2012. It is good for someone who has a character made and established gear, levels, combat skill, and basic knowledge of the game, the old game, and combining all that ability and knowledge to understand and adapt to the way the game is played now. A new player from ZERO will either 1) be left in the dust and ignored, being left to figure crap out alone and never getting old stuff done that, imo, was fun. Nation Missions, ZM, CoP!. or 2) you will get a good linkshell and super level to 90 with no combat skill and become a level whore until you realize there is more to the new game than before and you will either 2a)get help with atmas and gear or 2b) realize that no one cares about anyone other than their select friends and you will get shafted with a crap combat skill no gear having noob character.

FFXI is not as much fun as it was, anymore. You will be able to level really fast but your Combat Skill will suck and you will have no gear. Not that you can't get by but when you realize that you need WHM, BLM, WAR, NIN, MNK with skills leveled you will quickly turn into a Combat Skill grinder which is HORRIBLE or you will get stuck playing with other noobs that don't care about you and suck anyway. I was doing a mission with a PLD/NIN that had no shadow spells, they 100% evade attacks, and had no skills. I was a BLM and beat the mission for him when he should have been able to protect me while I pick off monsters. Instead I was soloing, one mob at a time, resting after each one, while he died and lay dead for 30min when it should have taken 8.

FFXI is not as much fun as I think FFXIV would be for a new player.

FFXIV is newer than FFXIV 1.0. You will soon have FFXIV 2.0 and you will also have a bunch of new players joining you or who have recently started too. There is a VET player base but there is an equally noobish level base to match it. Not to mention ALL the people who just got here, like you, or the ones that will get here come early next year. I would say come join us in FFXIV. If you get the urge to play FFXI next summer, when you can buy everything for $10, Id say give it a try then.

Congrats. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the price $9.99. I am pretty sure because of the direction that FFXIV has taken and the revamping to 2.0, they have given everyone a discounted price. I guess since the game was so horrible over the last two years. So $9.99 is there, "here is $3.00 off of your sub since we sucked so badly and we want you to stick around." Am I right people?

Once 2.0 hits you can be sure that it will jump back up to $12.99. I know that when they switch at first you will be able to play for free, I thought I had read, until they decide it’s finished or the beta is over, something like that, maybe until PS3 releases? Subject to change of course.

As far as your laptop goes. You can find a lot of discussions going on about the laptop and different PC products and the support of FFXIV. I am not the person to ask. You could post all you laptop specs and the above information in a separate topic and one of our tech geeks will respond. I can tell you this though; the system that FFXIV runs on is very inefficient. It taxes systems much more than they should and require higher powered machines to do it with. One of the fixes will be an optimization for the PC and the ability to play on the PS3. This means that you can have less and still play FFXIV while using lower system requirements. So for now, the game might just be overdoing it on your laptop. Will that nuke your laptop? Maybe. Will it be better after 2.0? It should be, but I would ask that question in a separate post for a more detailed reply. Sorry I couldn't be of more help on this topic. But just so you know, I bought a new GC and Power supply to run FFXIV and I am going to get a better motherboard fan soon too. My PC has never shut down but the tower is super warm and loud after a short time of playing.

I think you are right and I think playing around in FFXI is not a bad idea. However, do you have the Abbysea expansions? That is where the player base has flocked to. That is also where all the gear is and where all the players are. Also there are a few Endgame events that require those expansions. You can still level without those but you are limited to, low level areas outside nations >> Gusg. Mines >> Crawlers Nest >> an area under the Castle in San d'Oria >> after that, I think you need the expansions to level beyond 80. Anyway, there is a ton of new player information in the FFXI forum.

You might have fun passing time in FFXI, while 2.0 is being released, rather than trying to make it your home. I think that would be a better option. Don't get me wrong, FFXI has a close place in my heart but for someone new, I would say just come to FFXIV, XI is past its prime and not worth the investment, in the long run.
