Great mechanics for a Massively Multiplayer Online Game, that's for sure.
The genre has reached the point now where I feel like I've made a friend just because some guy says, "Wut da fuk man??" when I make it to a gathering point before him. Another being in this vast wasteland at long last!
It's not the game's fault you have no social skills, Kitty. There is plenty in this game that requires a group to do, and plenty of populated areas in the game to socialize. Hell, you could make friends in the seasonal events if you're THAT desperate to talk to people.
I'm not in support of any mechanic that grabs you by the nuts and tugs them over to be kicked viciously by a bunch of high school clique mentality scrubs who believe their way to play is the only way you should, just so you can get to max level - and that was the history of FFXI's leveling process in a (cracked) nutshell.
In FFXIV, you made friends because you were sociable, you got a LS because you were looking for one actively. And you naturally learned to play the way you were supposed to on your own as you progressed the levels, instead of being told to. Group mechanics in FFXIV are dirt easy to comprehend, and the only way you're going to get good at any of the group fights is to practice at each individual fight.
Now onto the important matters:
http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Inn This will be the link you need for info on all the inn quests there. It also goes into an overview of Rested bonus and why it's so gosh darn awesome.
Read it, learn it, love it.
Alas we are not on the same server so I cannot refer you to my LS for you to join. I would suggest asking in Ul'dah to see if anyone's willing to recruit. You're likely to get in one, as everyone's busy networking with people they want to stay in contact with for Beta.
