As the title says I am a little annoyed at the speed and sloppiness of the SE dev team with regards to Garuda. To put it in to perspective, this is a quote from the lode stone from a player (I will not use names).

Quote:
… by the time SE fix Garuda most of my LS will already be at 7/7 weapons. From burns….

Normally that would not really bug me, nor would I care enough to make a stink. But this time I can’t let it slide. Currently XI is dealing with a similar issue, with the major difference that that dev team has clearly said that anything obtained by utilizing this mechanic will be forfeit. While in XIV people are not even getting a slap on the wrist for taking advantage of a broken mechanic.

To expand I am not annoyed at the player’s here, quite the opposite I am glad to see that the players are finding things the dev never thought possible. I am annoyed at the fact that the dev’s, aren’t fixing and patching up loop holes when they are made public. Meaning that Garuda should have been patched as soon as the 3min burn video was posted on the official forums, not be left as is until 2 weeks after.

Players are exploiting design flaws. They've been doing it since games were being made. Usually you'd hope that it would be caught in the beta testing phase, but SE showed in alpha testing that they don't really care about flaws enough to do anything in any reasonable amount of time. Garuda burning isn't really an exploit per se; it just seems like more bad design choices. Given SE's poor track record on encounter design(understanding their own mechanics basically) and their pace in updating XIV, I'm not sure why you're surprised it's broken or why you'd expect a rush to fix it.

And to think, I haven't even beaten baby Garuda yet.

Meh, just a bug, I am glad SE is handling it the way they are.

It's golden week in Japan, do you really think it would be fair for the team to come in during the one week when they can actually relax to fix a minor issue consisting of one instance? It be like your boss telling you to come into work to fix a few numbers just as you are about to board the plan to start your vacation.

Odds are things like this won't occur again since when they do happen the team will be there to handle it, but just remember it's Golden Week so just cut them some slack and let them enjoy the week off and not having to think about XIV at all.

So Garuda is easily beaten. I don't see what the big deal is. If these items are easily obtained, they will be valued accordingly (as in, no big deal if you have them). Let people marvel at your Ifrit / Moogle / Multi-Materia gear instead. I don't think SE is under any obligation to make things harder to get after you've obtained your free ride. That attitude always strikes me as hypocritical whenever it crops up.

The genie is out of the bottle, there's no putting it back. People found a safezone from which to murder the mob. This is what good players do. Every boss that has ever been fought in the history of video games has been challenged the easiest way the players could find. Why should players be punished for that? As long as they aren't employing cheats, this is a legitimate strategy.

I hadn't even heard of this before this post, but after reading through much of the lodestone thread about it I can understand where the OP is coming from. How a game should handle boss fights and rewards is subjective, but such an easily exploited fight that allows players to repeat the exploit for an extended period of time to collect all the rewards, then go on to patch it seems far from ideal to me personally. If I were looking forward to Garuda being an epic fight (or even a "pretty good" fight) that challenged the player base as a whole and really forced people to play their best to overcome, and this was the result, I have to admit I'd probably be a little turned off too.

FWIW posted yesterday by a Rep

Quote:
We will be fixing/adjusting the Garuda battle in patch 1.22a, which is scheduled to be released on May 10th.

The adjustments to the battle will be made such that there are no extreme effects to players who have been using regular strategies. Once Garuda’s HP falls to a certain percentage she will use Aerial Blast.

To late in my opinion, the people that spam burned Garuda like a cheep hooker are at 7/7 or close to, for weapons. With the patch 1.22a SE will only make the fence taller, wich will have no affect on the sheep who jumped it and are long gone now. How ever looking at history said fix will probably make Garuda a bitch for people like me who have not even attempted her (was grinding BSM 41-50, hit 50 last night). While the people with 7/7 sit back and relax.... knowing SE they'll peobably make her drop only 1 "totem" per kill and slash her weapon drop % just to @#%^ with people.

I agree... but to me it's just something I'll do later on, I'm still working on Ifrit. Then again I have a lot less time to play than most.

Well.
We could talk about how unfair powerleveling was for those who didn't jump on the bandwagon.
Or how unfair the 2010 healer SP exploit was.
Or about the unfairly obtained Garuda weapons.

In the end, however, it is rarely the fault of the players that exploit a weakness.
It's the fault of programmers who overlook that weakness in their game system.
And SE seems to be pretty consistent at the latter.

Nothing in this thread shocks me anymore. This is the kind of quality work I expect from SE now. We keep being told things are changing but things just keep staying the same.

This is one of the reasons I hold little hope for 2.0.

Your entire argument smashed to bits by the fact that you haven't even made an attempt. You're crying about people having gear before you who would have had it(or deserved it more than you at the least) because they're making attempts. You don't do Garuda so how does this detract from your ability to enjoy the game anyway? This thread fu¢king fails.

Quick question now 20 months into retail if you were to add up all the "end game" in FFXIV would it even equal to half 1 Molten Core run from Vanilla WoW? How long do we think it will take to be able to piece together enough end game content to equal a whole Molten Core run 3+ years of retail?

You are being way way to kind, the end game on this game is an utter joke, to even compared it to molten core is an insult to the greatness of molten core, the end game on this game is not even on the level of blackrock depths(The istance where molten core the raid is located) Blackrock deepths had 20+ bosses, scripted events, an entire quest chain, different ways to finish the istance, at is height it usually consumed 4-6 hours to Clear. FFXIV end game is more comparable to Onyxia really, a no challenge loot pi~ata.

@ FilthMcNasty: You missed the whole point of what i wrote, to the point of utter humiliation of your self. Am saying SE need's to do a better job, you read it's the player's fault? What ever floats your boat.

@tpgsoldier and Ostia: The part that bugs me most is that you are not that far off, of target. Currently I am having a hard time understanding why i am obtaining armor, weapons, and so on. Currently XIV feels like wall climbing, were you get a new stone ever so often and are promised a top some were in the future.

I never said it's the players fault...
FilthMcNasty wrote:

A design flaw is the fault of the developer and exploiting it is the fault of the player. The blame is shared. They could have designed the encounter better(could be said for 90% of the content actually) and the players could avoid defeating that content in a way that it obviously wasn't meant to be cleared. In a perfect world everyone would prefer the challenge of trying to defeat encounters as intended, but we don't live in that world.

You haven't even made attempts at Garuda so I'm not certain why you even feel the need to complain. In your analogy, you're the guy standing on the ground shaking your head because the wall you want to reach the top of is too easy for other people. Clear it how it was supposed to be cleared if you feel the need, but the other 99% of the population will find the cookie-cutter and abuse it.

I've been doing it the standard way anyway. The fight isn't all that difficult once you figure out how the mechanic works.

/sarcasm on

Wait wut? How is this possible? You mean your enjoying the game as it was meant to be played without relying on the results of other players as a gauge to how much fun you're having? My mind is blown!

/sarcasm off

It can be done normally and all it requires is basic understanding of the mechanics. Now where the hell did I put that 'Working as intended' rubber stamp...
