I'm not sure but I think David Duchovny investigates this. Something to do with being abducted by the garlean empire. All kind of heinous experimentation takes place aboard the motherships. This is how galkas lost their tails. And it's how there have been some reports of miqo'te growing tails in the front. History tries to pull the wool over societies eyes. But we know the truth behind the "Mystery of the front tails"...
