Ok, I got my Storm sergeant Axe. +40vit with sanction....
Sound cool? Well, if you die, the sanction is gone. And you are left with a below par weapon (>...<
So what now, teleport back and get sanction cast again? Its kinda stupid. Its not like food effects or bluff, where you cast it yourself. You need to go back to the NPC to get it bluffed.
Whats SE thinking seriously?

Try and not die? plus the sanction bonuses are huge, and they stack with food, I think its OK if they disappear when you die, dying is something that's in your control. Or you can use other weapons, without sanctions - plenty to go around.
Seriously. There should just be an on/off switch. Or crank you have to turn around if you die. It's really not fair that if I die i have to use a free return to the inn in town and get the bonus and use my 15 minute return to go back to where I was. Seriously. What was the OP thinking??

Seems like an interesting system, to me. As others have said, it's a way to give a huge bonus and make people avoid death without taking away their "hard-earned" levels.

And just imagine the beauty of the drama that will ensue when a hardcore nerd
loses his sanction because of "the stupid whitemage". Not because his sanction
weapon pulled hate. And of course either the whole party will have to STOP! until
he gets his sanction back, or he'll outright leave the "fr*ackin nubz" because of it.

It's a bonus. Not a requirement. Don't forget that. Use the sanction weapons until you die/lose sanction then switch to Ifrit's or Moogle.

+40vit is way to good of a buff to be an option, now if it was +5-10 then it would be another story
It's a way to entice survival and sensible pulls.
Something I sorely missed when I last played.
Btw, I'm a little out of the loop. Which one is it?

a) from the weapon you had equipped when you die or
b) from all weapons when you die or
c) from a weapon whenever you die or unequip it?
I'm really interested, because c) sounds like a disguised
solution to job-swapping in dungeons...

I have neither.
I'm one of those they never got any luck. With weapons or nuts and totems.
They why I got the sanction weapons. If I got either, I don't even bother with it.
The +40Vit does add a nice boost to auto attack and WS. But not comparable to Ifrit axe or moogle

Its like a bluff spell. It will not disappear if you unequip it. But it will if you die. b)

Like? Sometimes death is just out of your control. You can be skillful like mad and if your healer goes R0 or you got caught in a lag spike, well, good game to you.
Got to know this while trying out Hamlet Defense for the first time.

Um no, when you die the Return to Inn/Home point is free, not subjective to 15 mins timer. Once you're up you can immediately return to the other Home point, and that is only after that you are subjected to 15 mins timer. If for some reason you are instantly dead again, the timer is waived and you can do two points return again.
There are several instances where different cool down timer can be waived, for example starting a leve/touching the aetheryte upon finish a leve will waive all actions timer including 15 mins.

Why are you surprised at this? I'm pretty sure it was written in the patch notes about how the buff would disappear after so long or death. I understand you are peeved that you spent 6500 seals on a weapon that you no longer think is worth it, but this was easily avoidable.

[dev1381] Sanction-ready gear can now be obtained in exchange for company seals.
“Sanction" is the name given to a process of gear enhancement which involves the casting of any one of a range of enhancing spells on equipment specially crafted to harbor enchantments. The sanction status can be received at the headquarters of each Grand Company, and for the duration of its effect (three hours Earth time) grants a bonus to the efficacy of certain gear. Such gear can be identified by viewing their help text.

Cool try doing that in the middle of a dungeon run or primal fight. See what kind of respond you get your teammates.
The method works only if you are doing leves, or generally levelling. The sanction weapons are -->50<--. which, is the current level cap.

How far is it from any current Dungeon/Primal to the closest Aetherite Gate? Not to mention there is 5 mins CD between each Failure or 15 mins CD between each Win. Also this method is not for leve, the leve is an example where 15 mins Action CD can be instantly refreshed, not 2 points return upon death.
Sooo... to sum it up:
You want the best weapons for cheap sh*tz, no strings attached
swap your jobs on the fly to be the uber healertankdps whenever needed,
swap gears for optimal performance with every weaponskill
and skip death penalties
then complain that the game is too easy and no challenge provided

Can't avoid lag altogether, But that's why a positive reinforcement reward such as this is so much more acceptable. This gives you a nice buff, but it's optional. You don't have to get the sanction stuff. Death penalties would probably not be optional. Not everyone enjoys having to grind back crap they already did repetitively.
