i would like the story aspect of the game to be handled more like it was in past FF's

im not saying take the puzzle-type things out completely, but almost every single mission in FFXI had some sort of tedius task that had to be done and it just got annoying.

It'd be cool if they have one big ongoing storyline on top of all the missions and such. Something that affects the world.
In FFXI you beat the Shadow Lord but defeating the evil ruler doesn't affect anything, his castle still stands and his minions still roam.
The ongoing storyline could affect zone appearance and spawns but needs to be something that you can come into at any time.
This would basically have the world build up to a climax and will not advance until the server completes that obstacle. This will lead to the next climax and so on. The "obstacle" may be a large mob or a puzzle we have to work together to solve.

There a lot of elements I would love lol but the biggest one is this one.
Instead of a 2Hour system how FFXI has, how about a Overdrive(Trance) mode that is different for each job. the Overdrive mode does not really need to replace TP, actually what I was thinking is making TP more like a MP bar that it gets weaker the more you use it, but recovers pretty decently in battle. Maybe make a Mage MP recover slow while in Active mode, but when resting make it very fast like TP recoving. And overload bar is filled up the way that TP is filled with Melee attacks, but could also work on magic fill.

That would be practically game breaking!
The thing is, Weapon Skills weren't tremendously good, while 2 hours were. Replacing Weapon Skills with Overdrive attacks would be horrible; it would ruin the game.
Suppose user A casts haste on user B. User B equips their haste gear, and... WHAM!
at 50% haste, they would be getting trance so fast! Also, trance is pretty much 1-hit-kill in other FF games, and so it would also be in FFXIV if it was implemented as well.
With weaponskills, they aren't one-hit-kills like overdrive, so using haste gear didn't break the game.
2-hours are great because they can only be used in moderation, but the wait is worth it. Why not just keep at least those abilities the same?

I'm really a fan of almost all of the FF lore, so pretty much anything that's a reference to another FF (especially the older ones) pleases me.
Of course I've been very vocal that I would like a playable race along the lines of Vivi/Fomor/Waltzes. I'd like playable Moogles as well, but I imagine they would be the FFTA design, which I'm not partial to.
I hope classic Tonberries and Cactaurs make an appearance. I hope they do more with Airships. Cid's a given.

An in-game card game(multiple), would be great if we could make profit from it while playing others.
Weapon upgrades, as in gathering items or completing multiple quests...then...method giving to npc or make a craft able to upgrade weapons at a higher lvl crafting skill. Not just a +1 upgrade but up to a max depending on weapon all done via quests, trading in items(difficulty depends on wep) or crafting, able to add special abils to weapons.

I want to go to the moon like in FFIV. Do we really need to be able to go to the moon? No. But damnit that was cool in in FFIV. I think one of the reasons why I liked the FF series is that many of the games blur the lines between fantasy and sci-fi genres. Of course this isn't news to anyone, but it really clicked for me when they went to the moon.
I also want double eyepatches, to increase my pirate bravado.
I want to see more characters that're freaky. Shadow in FFVI, the first time you see him and his background is explained, I was like "jesus. wow". I want more of that. I want an NPC that accompanies you in a few quests thats pure bad ass. When you play the flash back in FFVII and Sephiroth is part of your party... moments like that make a game. Also, Pheonix Downs and Tents. I think bringing back the 'Tent' and being able to speed up resting for the entire party would be awesome.

Wow, I agree with everything you said.
I guess the only thing I'd like to see that I can add to this thread is a battle system based around fighting multiple monsters. That's always been the way FF worked, except in XI. Luckily, it sounds like this is coming true.
Oh, and a skill development system that's more interesting than "level up, get a skill." Almost any of the ones from the previous games are okay.

I agree with the more intricate storyline. I want to be led through the story but with friends by my side. Kind of like a RPG that you play offline but MMORPG status. I fully believe it can be done. I want a storyline rivaling the most epic of the FF series (FFVI and FFVII) Mind you I am not saying that the others are bad I have played them all and I enjoy them all for their different reasons. Its just those two are more noticed than anything. Make NM's recognizable to the FF series. Garland would be cool. as an example.
Cid better be piloting the HIGHWIND.
I would also like to see maybe Nanakis (RED XIII) race maybe make an appearance.

I loved the elemental correspondence table the game worked with. Everything in the world had an element that meant something to some extent.
Even eating meat was considered a fiery action. Poison was water, raise was light. It all tied in in some way were a breath of thought was placed into a system that gave meaning through correspondences. Connections not normally made fit into the games world from the stars in the sky to the days of the week.

One of the biggest problem I had with XI was the lack of emotion I felt with the NPCs. Upon reflection, I can now see it had nothing to do with the scripting. Every one had their own personality and traits, and was wonderfully written. There was simply no concern for them. The world was beautiful, clean, and safe for all...well, for all but us.
There was no disease, famine, or poverty. The little corruption that did thrive was nothing that couldn't be taken care of by a group of taru children with stink bombs. Everyone was happy, and the few that weren't were comic relief. Yes, there were monsters at the gate, but at least they had the decency to be cute monsters and not bother anyone inside the city.
I want to see Yuna dance. And I want to cry while she does.

You are under the impression that the gameplay of XIV will be exactly the same as XI. Nothing at this point is game breaking because we have almost no knowledge of how the combat will play out.
In XIV, a Paladin might max hp @ 9,999 with mages maxing @ the 5,000 range.
Damage can be delivered in different quantities and speeds. Don't think that this will play exactly like XI.
1) There should be an underworld full of dwarves as found in FFIV (FF2 SNES).
2) Discovering the problems of the world have actually been rooted in the evil found on the moon, as found in FFIV (FF2 SNES).
3) The music from FFIV (FF2 SNES....I know, it's my favorite chapter of the FF series lol)
4) I second all the posts regarding ancient magic, such as, Gravity/Meteo/Ultima/Float be brought back.
5) Ninjas should get devasting bombs.
6) Monks should get brutal combos, that require button pushing (like in fighting games)
7)Battle/Spell/Summoning animations should dazzle the eye, not dull the senses.
8)Black chocobos (Flying chocobos)
9)Bring back the Elemental fiends
10) All jobs should make a return from FFXI to FFXIV, on day of release.
11) Battles with special challenges i.e. no magic casting, as found in the tower in FFVI (FF3 SNES) and areas that prohibit the use of metal, as seen in the struggle against the evil troll, found in the Crystal Cave in FFIV (FF2 SNES)
12) Make gil plentiful. Give the party leader the command of "Flee" but once used, every player in party loses a set amount of gil out of their coffer, as found in FFIV (FF2 SNES)
13) Make gil plentiful. Give the THF and/or Ninja the ability to throw tons of gil at a given target.
14) The "Mimic" ability
15) Voice acting NPC's and Cutscenes. I don't mind reading, but I do expect at least sooooome talking.
16) Chocobo jousting and epic battles.
17) Rune and Crystal gear. Whips, too. I don't recall seeing this anywhere in FFXI.
18) Vampires
19) Old school summoner avatars i.e. Pheonix/Asura/Bahamut
20) 2 hour abilities. I'd like a 24 hour ability, too.
21) Bard songs should sound different when you play them. In FFXI, they all sounded the same. IMO, would make the job more interesting.
22) A way to customize your character after the intial setup. At least include a barber/hairstylist NPC that will cut your hair, for a small fee.
23) 9,999 HP for melee. 999 MP for mages.
24) Capes. I love capes. Nothing makes you feel more like a hero, or more sinister than that.

What I don't want to see a return to FFXIV
1) Waiting hours/days/weeks/months/years to get one sword/item/Notorious Monster. I like challenges, but I also like to get on with my life. Yes please and thank you.

2) Discovering the problems of the world have actually been rooted in the evil found on the moon, as found in FFIV (FF2 SNES).
3) The music from FFIV (FF2 SNES....I know, it's my favorite chapter of the FF series lol)
4) I second all the posts regarding ancient magic, such as, Gravity/Meteo/Ultima/Float be brought back.
5) Ninjas should get devasting bombs.
6) Monks should get brutal combos, that require button pushing (like in fighting games)
7)Battle/Spell/Summoning animations should dazzle the eye, not dull the senses.
8)Black chocobos (Flying chocobos)
9)Bring back the Elemental fiends
10) All jobs should make a return from FFXI to FFXIV, on day of release.
11) Battles with special challenges i.e. no magic casting, as found in the tower in FFVI (FF3 SNES) and areas that prohibit the use of metal, as seen in the struggle against the evil troll, found in the Crystal Cave in FFIV (FF2 SNES)
12) Make gil plentiful. Give the party leader the command of "Flee" but once used, every player in party loses a set amount of gil out of their coffer, as found in FFIV (FF2 SNES)
13) Make gil plentiful. Give the THF and/or Ninja the ability to throw tons of gil at a given target.
14) The "Mimic" ability
15) Voice acting NPC's and Cutscenes. I don't mind reading, but I do expect at least sooooome talking.
16) Chocobo jousting and epic battles.
17) Rune and Crystal gear. Whips, too. I don't recall seeing this anywhere in FFXI.
18) Vampires
19) Old school summoner avatars i.e. Pheonix/Asura/Bahamut
20) 2 hour abilities. I'd like a 24 hour ability, too.
21) Bard songs should sound different when you play them. In FFXI, they all sounded the same. IMO, would make the job more interesting.
22) A way to customize your character after the intial setup. At least include a barber/hairstylist NPC that will cut your hair, for a small fee.
23) 9,999 HP for melee. 999 MP for mages.
24) Capes. I love capes. Nothing makes you feel more like a hero, or more sinister than that.

Gil being plentiful just makes inflation happen and will make the economy be thrown off what SE sets up with NPCs.

wow been a day since I logged on, my post was dead then, I'm glad it's been popular.

The ability to fight while riding your chocobo.
I hope they add Enemies from other Final Fantasy Games.
Enemies from Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. But i wish they make new enemies for this game too.
And i wish they add weapons like Masamune or lionheart etc.
Hmm and i wish they add a epic Areas for Lv up like other FF.
Other very important aspect i wish they add more Littles villages.
Hmm Maybe in a forest where the enemies start lv 15. if you keep going in then you will find new enemies with level 20. in this point maybe you can find a new village For rest. with potions.
In this little village you can find armors. shields, ammo. weapons for all classes. and that weapons be Usefull at your lv.
I wish too they let use ride chocobos in more areas. and other ships like RAGNAROK of FF8.
Other important thing i wish they keep a end game so wonderfull like FF11 but this time they add more enemies. with Old abilites. like tomberrys using death. or Omega weapon using megido flame.
Maybe they add the Isle like FF8 where you find bahamuth and ultima weapon. this can be awesome if we can explore secret isles like this.
Hmm i hope they add a Nice story line this time.

No offense, but how do you know anything would be "game breaking?" Perhaps, you were referring to game breaking as how it might affect FFXI game mechanics? FFXIV will be a new experience all together. Let's just wait and see, shall we?

Ya, rather than throwing old gear out, I'd rather upgrade it, myself. Infusing the gear with special enhancements and abilities would make gear more sentimental, and would make some quests seem more rewarding.

A larger variety of summons for the summoner would be nice...Bahamut should be in their arsenal at least...Maybe not as a persistent summon but just shows up, does damage and leaves.
I'd like to see Garland make another appearance. :3

This is completely awesome. I would love a place where I could blow off steam playing mini games and such. But I also think that Chocobo races should be a little more interactive. And the breeding system for them to be a little more interesting.

A Card battling system @-@ I dunno how many hours I spent in FFIX playing tetramaster.
More interesting story-lines. The story in FFXI was kinda dry and most of all really a pain to start.

I want a scan ability.. that's levelable. Like.. the more you scan a certain mob family the more information you get. Say start out with just hp/mp, after 50 scans on crabs you see their elemental weaknesses, after 200 you see their weapon weaknesses, etc.
All the information would be posted online eventually, but it would be pretty neat.
