To be clear, I am in no way, shape, or form claiming that FFXI is dying. I am sure it will be around for many years to come.
However, there are two defenses of this conclusion that I keep seeing repeated that I don't think are particularly valid. They both are technically true statements, but they don't validate the point you are trying to make.
1. SE has said that they have content to at least the next year planned out.
This statement has an inherent pressumption that SE has another expansion in the works. They may in fact have another expansion in the works, but they also have 2 more mini expansions and the rest of WotG to release. That in itself is going to likely take another year. I think it's reasonable to conclude that this is the content they're referring to presently.
2. EQ continued to recieve new content for years after EQ2.
This is true, but one of the main reasons EQ continued to do so well after EQ2 came out was becuase EQ2 had brutal system requirment which prevented most people from playing it and it also had very little working content when it was released. These are similar to the issues that doomed Vanguard as well.
Don't "believe something just because you want to or fear it to be true."
I don't have any idea what SE is planning one way or the other, but these two little tidbits have been bothering me, so I just had to get that out there. Now I can sleep at night.
