**The 'Will probably buy a PS3 for this game' Base**Follow

At first I had little interest in the system, but now I pretty much feel obligated to get one just for this game.


...And maybe Last Guardian by Team Ico too :D

Yeah I play on PC but I'm not sure how my pc will handle it.

How does that compare to PS3 capabilities? Will I need a new computer to run it smoothly?

Just so you know, GHz matters little when comparing across architectures.

The specs on that PC look decent though. I'll bet that's at least the minimum requirement and will probably be able to play it and good settings. (this is based purely off the knowledge of what many PC users have, I don't know anything about the requirements. I just know SE won't want to alienate a user base, they'll make lower texture settings available)

Nope, computer here, and the nice thing about computers is that unless you're on a laptop you can upgrade it until it can play it for less than a PS3.

Well, I will be buying me a PS3, finally got a reason to buy a console! I have been avoiding them for 5 years now, PC has been my console, but building/buying a new $2000 monster (I am the kind of people who prefer their gaming PC to be capable of running new games for about 5 years before the next PC, but this game will probably force me to turn that cycle into a 4 year one now) to be able to run FFXIV smoothly doesn't tickle my fancy for now.

Computer Here! Also i doubt they will make it to incredible hard or easy to have a capable computer to run this, May dumb it down from the PS3 version but hey! It works

When it comes to processing DirectX basically consolidates what the 8 PS3 cores do, Sound, Graphics, Physics (although this is offloaded to some GPUs) etc.

Dual core 2.0+ should run the game fine because it's all designed to handle this input in a certain way.
As for graphics, Gefore 8/9600+ seems to be the industry standard for this generation of consoles. I have no idea about its ATI equivalents I'm afraid though.


On topic, I was very close to actually buying a PS3, that was until they anounced that it would be on PC too. Because of this, and probably this alone I will NEVER buy a PS3.

I have a PS3 already, I think the last game I played on it was Eternal Sonata. Ever since then, it's been a (huge) BluRay player. My husband and I both play FFXI, so even though we have a PS3, I think we'll be using PC just so we can simultaneously play together, and not have one person banished to the other side of the house.

While this and the 13s are certainly system-sellers, I'll be getting my copy for the PC.

When talking cost/power, also take into account that this is a year off, especially if you are content to wait for the fix omgbugfix patch after launch. You can build/buy prefab a pretty respectable PC cheaply these days and price:performance value should continue to go up over the next year. Also, I would expect SE to follow current trends in graphics with the minimum specs fairly low and the 'full monty' specs rediculously high.

Now I wonder if they'll optimize it for the then-defunct but still widely used Windows XP or the newer Vista/Windows 7 base? It's nice that you don't have to worry about such things with a console =/

I already have a PS3, but I'm probably going to play on the PC more like I do with FFXI (vs. the 360 version). I'll probably get both versions though, since I have a friend who often comes over and plays as well.

I can't think of much else that you'd absolutely NEED. Assuming you aready have an internet source. And to bring it all home, An upgrade is almost half the cost of a PS3, and a new build would be just shy of it too (remember you'll be able to do other things with this spiffy new machine too.)

PS3 has quite a few great titles to justify to purchase the system:

1) Metal Gear Solid: Snake is old but still sneaky as heck, + plus some stupid toilet humor >_> It is the first PS3 game I bought.

2) Valkarie Chronicles: One of the better Sega games released recently. It is currently being animated and shown in Japanese TV.

3) LittleBigPlanet: Probably one of the best UK gaming exports since Richard Garriot came to America. Not Japanese, Not American, Pure European.

About comparing specs of a game console with PCs. PCs are tuned and designed for uses beyond gaming, but most state-of-the-arts PC are designed for gaming or research analysis.

My PC is relatively "old" now, and it can barely handle some of the more recent FPS, but it still does very good job as a word processing and a terminal box to Linux systems at work. So I think PS3 will be the platform I will be playing, and I am not inclined to upgrade/buy PC.

Sounds very nice, but umm, 9800's are very overrated, nothing great about them. I always think of it as an overclocked 8800 lol.

People seriously lack the knowledge about how the PS3's CPU architecture works. It isn't "just a 3.2 Ghz" Intel processor thrown into a case.
