Our guild is using our guild leaders house as a guild hall. But currently only two people can be in there at the same time. Sort of defeats the purpose. Is the ability to have more than one visitor a member only feature? or is there special way to do it via invites, clicking the house icon, what?

Yup, if your guild leader is not a member, that would be why that is occurring. Members are allowed to have unlimited visitors, while non-members are restricted to two.
