Does assigning points to your skill path(hitting the + key) actually do anything or does it just unlock the skills listed allowing for their purchase for a additional point?

It increase the abilities' level by 1.

Mouse over 1 of the ability in the path before you press 'train' and then check after you do. You'll see the damage (And other effects, if any) usually goes up.

While 1 point doesn't do that much of a difference, they do eventually start to have an impact.

The way they do the Mastery is confusing, I can't believe I was Rank 28 when it finally all came to me how it worked. I guess if I looked harder I would have found out sooner but then again I didn't know I was doing anything wrong, I just thought it was a bug becuase I couldn't find the abilities on my toon anywhere.

One of the main factors was what your asking about here. I noticed the abilities that had to do with the path I chose were gaining more potent as I went up with the bars and hit train. Actually come to think of it as mentioned before the increase isnt much but it adds up and I would only hit train when I got to a box that had an ability on it. So therefor when I finally hit train the potencies were much more significant and noticeable because I wouldn't hit train on the blank boxes prior.

They need to change the wording for when you hit the + button and go up a box then hit train because if you get your bars up to an Icon and don't click the Icon it says 'You have successfully purchased a new abilty' if you hit train, which infact technically you didn't.

Another thing if you respec and bring the yellow bars all the way up as high as you can and hit train without highlighting any ability Icons it says, 'You have succefully purchased a new ability' repeatedly for how ever many abilities you brought the yellow bars up past. They need to seperate the 3.

For when you hit the + button and it's just a blank box and you hit train it could say
'Your mastery abilities have become stronger'

For when you get to a box with an Icon but you don't click the icon and you hit train it could maybe say
'You have successfully unlocked a new ability to train'

Then if you click an Icon and hit train it could say
'You have successfully learned a new ability'

If they haven't done something like this allready they need to, I dunno because I haven't done a respec in awhile. It's easy and simple when you figure it out but it's confusing if you don't. This could be a problem for a new player.

If they haven't fixed it or even if they have not maybe the admins should add a sticky specifically all about mastery trainning and update it as needed. This could help answer all mastery questions.

I posted on this not to long ago same as you confused. Yes you have to purchase those skills in the bar once you are high enough up the chain it is not auto as some of us thought.
