I find this to be a very balancing aspect of the game. Right now, at max Combustion, I get 50% Crit, 100% increased Damage, and 50% Explosion chance. I think I have maybe 4 spells that don't have a chance for Explosion...all of which are buffs. At 23, that's working out to be 460~ish damage an explosion. Couple that with my 3500 hps, it balances out well as I can really get some good output going (AE nuke crits near 1k when max Combustion), but I REALLY have a good chance of killing myself (96 personal Bright Wizard kills....gah!).
If it worked out to be only 50% Crit and 100% increased damage, there would be screams of overpower. Throw a couple of healers on me and I would start working you into a DoT, AE, Fire Cage rotation only having to worry about incoming damage and not blowing myself up. If I had a tank throw Guard on me as well...mmmm....MASS BBQ!! You'd have to send quite a few people at any Bright Wizard/Sorceress in a scenario and hope to hell you could burn them down before the got worked up.
I really like the gameplay aspect of it and man...the damage output is awesome. Killing yourself is....not. It happens and I just roll with it. I figure since I kill take 3-4 mobs of equal or higher level with marginal downtime (rez/heal/run or time between to heal) that's fine with me.
I just wish that the Combustion number would be a bit more obvious as in the heat of battle, I tend to forget to watch it and time Meltdowns (Combustion dumps) to save myself. Maybe flashing OMG DUMP COMBUSTION MORON!!! across the screen would help, but I doubt it. Once those crits start rolling...I'll nuke til I drop.
