I'll soon be starting up a character or two in WAR, and I'm curious as to which gaps need to be filled. I've heard that healers and tanks are abnormally common, so much to the point that it would be a good idea to roll DPS. I've also heard that it's the usual DPS-overload. From your experience, which is it?
Also, obviously Chaos is generally more populated than Order, but which races in particular are over/underplayed? Are the elves actually the odd man out for once? Is Chaos the new Alliance, Order the new Horde?
I'm just looking to fill the gaps. :)

I've never seen so many dead hookers!

Generally speaking there are less Order than Destruction across the board.
If you're going to play Order, our side is usually very tank/healer short (probably cause Order versions of both are not as uber as the Destruction versions of same). Because Fire Wizards are like the only class that equals or tops their destruction counterpart, and because Witch Hunters are just too fun, we tend to be very top-heavy on DPS.
Now I'm usually an Order player, so I can only go by what I see in the PvP areas, but Destruction seems to be just the opposite. They usually can (and do) man 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the group with tanks and healers in nearly every Scenario, so if you're looking to fill holes and prefer the dark side, might wanna find a DPS class that appeals to you. Witch Elves are good for that, but you have to not mind putting on a girly suit (if you're a guy) cause they can only be females. Destruction is oddly gender restricted for many classes. It's one reason I don't play Dest much--personally, I like tanking and there are no female tanks available to the destruction side.

I don’t think it matters much at the earlier tiers. I can’t speak for anything above tier 2 at the moment. But I can tell you from an order perspective, that the Tier 1 RvR scenarios tend to swing heavily from one side or the other. It really depends on the mix you get which is pretty random.
It seems the Empire Tier 1 scenario is the most popular since the change to allow you to get to any of the RvR instances. I have played games where Order has slaughtered Destruction in no time flat. But also have played the other way where Destruction flattened the order. It really has to do with the mix of classes.
When Destro forces win it tends to be heavily seeded with tanks and healers. When Order wins It seems there are a good range of mid range dps classes such as witch hunters, white lions and engineers. So it’s really a crap shoot who is going to win.

Order for the most part is outnumbered by destruction. As for class balance, that really depends on server and tier. I've seen order groups with right amount of healers and same for destruction. I cannot say that there is a lack of iron breakers and rune priests, as one posters here said.
In general however, if you're in the mindset to fill in the gaps, roll order tank or healer, as they will always be needed.
